This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 8th day of June, 1943, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by a book review of THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 10:40 to 10:55 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Penna.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3035].

3. Now as we find, there is as much psychological disturbance as there is pathological disturbance, or more.

4. Having had a great emotional upset, the body has partially resorted to such measures as a resistance against others.

5. However, the non-activity has brought on some pathological reactions that will necessarily need attention also, as there are measures taken for meeting the conditions.

6. As we find, it would require one as a nurse, reader - as of Christian Science, Unity, New Thought, or any form that will make for the arousing of those measures and needs within self to rely upon the spiritual and divine forces that may manifest in self.

7. This might be accomplished by the mother, yet there has grown to be something of resentments between these two.

8. Thus, there should be some individual chosen, in whom the body has confidence, that would use a thirty minute to an hour period each day for reading, meditating, praying with the body; and using at the same time the magnetic healing treatment; that is:

9. Place the hands on the body at these areas, you see - and let it be a right-handed individual:

10. Put the left hand under the body at the area opposite the liver - that is, on the back, you see - and the right hand over the liver area - in front, you see. Hold the hands in this position, steady, for a period of some five to ten minutes - for this vibration that will be produced.

11. As the hand treatment is finished, let there be the repeating of this prayer with the body - as some form of direction is brought to the body, but let it mostly be in the way of the truths expressed here:

12. “LORD! LET THY WILL BE DONE IN ME TODAY.”

13. Have the body repeat this.

14. Then, as to the pathological conditions, - naturally, with the long periods of inactivity, there is weakness, lack of nerve energy, lack of vitality, and the muscular and nerve forces have become inactive - even to that point where some of the voluntary forces become involuntary, and the involuntary become voluntary.

15. This accounts also for the periods of irrational activity, especially in the evening or nights at times.

16. These, though, would respond with this combination; that is, someone taking the time, using the measures as indicated, - not only the mental suggestion but the physical or mechano-therapy application.

17. And in the physical:

18. Each day take one glass of raw milk in which there is stirred a level teaspoonful of ACIGEST.

19. Also take CALCIOS three times a week. Spread a whole wheat cracker with this, thinly, and eat.

20. This will change the activity of the abilities of assimilation, and make for giving of strength to the activities of the body; normalizing the circulatory forces.

21. And as the mental and physical are made to coordinate better, we should find responses.

22. Do that.

23. These as we find, then, arose from over-mental reactions - or from a high emotional disappointment. Thus the general conditions.

24. We are through with this Reading.

R1. 6/17/43 Mother’s letter [unedited as written]:

Dear Mr. Cayce

I have received your statement of the reading for my daughter [3035]. Please forgive me for bothering you again but I want to know a few facts if possible about [3035]‘s illness. I will state here about her illness. [3035] was an average girl going to school intelligent healthy but not very strong tired too easily but as I’m not a husky mother I didn’t pay much attention she graduated in 1941 got a job in a dairy soda fountain she got sick in Aug. very severe pain in stomach had the Dr. and he said it was nothing but emotional. She lost weight but started to work again and in 1942 she planned to go to train to be a nurse which she had her heart set on she took a xray of her chest which was required and they said she had spot on her lung for her to go for a rest which she did for 9 months to a state Sant. she came home April 15 looking very good gained weight but I noticed that she didn’t like to go out she was so sensitive about her being in a Sant. she wasn’t stronger either had very few friends kept too much to herself. I wanted her to be happy and well above all else on May 15 she got very sick with very high temperature. I called the Dr. He told me its just grippe nothing to worry about she’ll be alright in few days. Well she kept getting worse instead of better which got me greatly worried. We had a specialist for her. He wants her to go back to the Sant. She feels very badly about it crys and upsets her self very much. I don’t know what to do. I ordered the artichoke or Medicine you wrote me about but didn’t receive it yet. I believe strongly that it will help [3035] very much. Should I let her go to a Sant. or should I keep her and nurse here at home? I don’t know if it will be possible to give her the Med. in the hospital. Mr. Cayce in your reading did my [3035] have T.B. that is in my mind.

Please write me and tell me what is best to do. I am so confused that I don’t know what to do last. Thur. she took for the worse her Temperature goes up and down and its that way day after day no better she refuse[s] food of any kind that I am almost beside my self trying to [do] my best for her my one thought is for her and her health. Please Mr. Cayce forgive me for bothering you but if possible won’t you help me to win [3035]‘s health back to her and I will be so grateful.

I have yours of the seventeenth and note what you have to say about your daughter. I am in hopes that before this you have been able to get those things suggested for her, and that you will follow them along thoroughly. Apparently, that’s the inclination, but I believe this will help. You will have to get her out of that habit of condemning self if she ever hopes to get well. Do let me hear from you and know that you are never bothering me if I can be of any help.
