This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce [at the McAlpin Hotel in N.Y.C.?] on this 24th day of March, 1921, in accordance with request made by self - Mr. [304] [by letter or wire? No correspondence about the case is in his folder].

Time of Reading Unknown. Selma, Ala.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here; we have had it before, you see. [See 304-1, Par. B1.]

2. You see there is considerable difference in this body now from what it was when we had it here before. There are some abnormal conditions in the body that should be corrected to make the functioning of other organs come back to their normal condition again.

3. We find at the second lumbar that there has a been a misplacement of a vertebrae to the right side, so that the end, or ends, of the cerebro-spinal nerve cord are brought into an improper functioning, so that very much pain and discomfort is brought to this body through these conditions. It also disturbs the functioning of the organs of the trunk portion of the body, especially the intestinal tract, so that not enough nutriment or sufficient force, goes to make up sufficient juices or fluids in the intestines for them to form their proper functioning, see?

4. To relieve this condition it will be necessary for this portion of the column to be re-adjusted, or put in place. Of course it is not sufficient to cause paralysis, but it is almost sufficient to cause paralysis to the forces, but being in the brush end of the cord will produce much pain rather than [?].

5. The plethoric condition in the lungs [asthma?] is as we have had it before, there is not much change in this, save in the action of the blood supply which is some bettered by the cellular force over the forces controlled by this part of the body. Yet the nerve tension has been so strong on the whole system since this displacement that the re-action and reflex conditions are such as to cause a great deal of unrest throughout.

6. Local applications will do to relieve present conditions, but for relief of a permanent nature, to prevent locomotion or ataxia, or a reflex to the kidneys and their action, and which produces trouble to these organs, it will be necessary for this vertebrae to be replaced again.

7. Do this, and we will find relief for the system, then the applications as we have given here, of a warm solution of calcium chloride and 1/28% acetic acid [Salt & vinegar?]. These warm applications to these portions of the body, and well massaged into the body, that is along the lumbars. Do that.

8. (Q) How shall we replace this vertebrae, Mr. Cayce? (A) By a chiropractic would be better than an osteopath, one who understands the business, and one would not be too severe, as it has been out for some time and will be very sore. If it is not attended to at once lesions will form. Trouble in the digestive tract causes a great deal of trouble at this time.

9. (Q) Which physician in Selma should do this, Mr. Cayce? (A) We do not find him here, but there is one who will do this. He is not here at this place.

We find him in a room on Water Street, corner Broad Street, with the entrance on Water Street.* Selma, Ala.]

Now if this is done as we have given here relief will be brought to the body, and the body will get better, at present you see the body is getting worse. It will bring relief to the body of [304].

10. We are through.

• [GD’s note: This must have been Dr. D. Carl Thompson (D.C.), because I remember that on his letterhead years later he advertised that he was “Selma’s Pioneer Chiropractor.” There was no osteopath in Selma then, and none listed now; the nearest being in Birmingham and Mobile.]

R2. 6/12/33 Son’s ltr.: “My father, who is eighty yrs. old, was told when he was thirty [by the doctors] that he only had a few years to live. In his younger days he certainly took very little care of his body, for he was inclined towards dissipation - and I mean in its fullest sense, for there’s scarcely a bone in his body that hasn’t been broken at some time or another; yet the readings have given diets for him that have been most wonderful…

“Ever since I can remember he has suffered with asthma, from a spell of bronchial pneumonia he had - I think before I was born.

“When he was about sixty he had the misfortune to break his kneecap. Of course, the profession told him he would never be able to heal it; that he would either be unable to walk without a crutch, or it would be very stiff and rigid and he would always limp. The reading offered a diet to supply proper structural material for that particular portion of the anatomy. He still doesn’t use a cane, and walks as good as most anyone you ever saw…”
