This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the Office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 22nd day of June, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3059], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions that may be asked:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3059].

3. As we find, there are disturbing conditions that prevent the better physical functioning. And the body oft times taxes itself to too great an extent for the vitality.

4. Yet the determination on the part of the body to carry on, even with the disturbances to activity, is much responsible for preventing the total collapse as might be expected.

5. These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body, [3059] we are speaking of:

6. The blood supply indicates the lack of perfect eliminations, the lack of proper circulation in the superficial activities of the body, and the extremities suffer at times - both as to the arms and limbs, as well as head and feet.

7. This head disturbance comes from the unbalanced metabolism of the body.

8. The tiredness and weakness comes from poisons or toxic forces in the system, as does the dizziness at times - combined with the overtaxed heart, when there is the unusual amount of activity or if the body does not control its activities sufficiently, or when there are disappointments these also have their reaction in a detrimental manner.

9. These then, as indicated, are activities of circulation, lack of the eliminations properly, lack of coordination between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems in proper relations. And, as given, the body goes on its own nerve tension. Thus the organs, as well as the brain reflexes, do cry out against same.

10. In making administrations that would be beneficial, - we would begin first with hydrotherapy treatments; and also some osteopathic adjustments. These should be made separately.

11. We would have one osteopathic adjustment each week for a RELAXING of the body, and one hydrotherapy treatment a week for assisting in cleansing the system, and stimulating the circulation. And these, as we find, should bring better results for the body.

12. The hydrotherapy should include each time a light sweat and a thorough massage.

13. Do have at least one or two colonic irrigations through the period of the hydrotherapy, - these about ten days or two weeks apart; and if in the latter portion of the colonic there is considerable mucous indicated, then have another colonic in about two weeks.

14. After about three or four treatments of each character have been taken, - that is, a three to four week period, with one hydrotherapy treatment early in the week and one relaxing osteopathic treatment the latter part of the week, - we would then begin to take (not before) a stimulation through the Vitamin B-1 Complex. Use the One A Day Brand of Vitamin B and B-1 Complex, that is not combined with so many others. And preferably take the One a Day.

15. Do these consistently, and we will find bettered conditions for this body.

17. (Q) Have I hardening of the arteries? (A) Rather these are the effect of static conditions that should be materially aided when sufficient number of the treatments indicated have been taken. We would keep these up - the hydrotherapy and massage - until at least eighteen or twenty of each have been taken, with a rest period from them in the middle of the series; that is, take ten of each of the treatments, rest from them ten days, and then have the next series. Get the reaction, you see, by the rest; then have the second series. But throughout the period, after the system has been cleansed with the colonics, and with the first three or four of the other treatments, do keep up the Vitamin-B-1 stimulations.

18. (Q) Have I had a light stroke? (A) No; rather has it been a plethoric condition - which exists in the circulation between heart and liver.

19. (Q) What is the matter with my head? (A) As indicated, this incoordination between the cerebrospinal and sympathetic impulse or pressure - or, the metabolism bad.

20. (Q) Is the work I have undertaken too much for me? (A) The body has set itself to do so. Complete this formation of the group, at least.

Do not tax self too much, but be consistent - and we should find the body capable of doing it.

The mental attitude should be creative; not merely ideals that are passive, but ideals that are active in the relationships of the body to those it meets. The associations, to this entity, mean a great deal.

Do not bore others, but if you have something to give in spiritual instruction without hampering others, give it; or, as He who is the way and the life, give - for He gave continuously that needed. Give thou continuously that which meets the needs, that answers for the faith that lies within; thinking of others as well as of self. For with the same measure ye mete to thy fellow man ye are giving just that measure of service to thy Maker.

Dear Edgar Cayce,

I received your instructions and have taken the colonic and steam.

Now I would like to tell you some thing. Some little while ago I had to go to the Dr. and he gave me a thorough examination, blood heart urine etc., and he said I had an infection some place another. Well a couple of weeks ago I went out in the country and ate seven or eight large plums. Well, when I came home I felt that I was acid so I took tomato juice and lemon juice. Well, it nearly finished me, I guess too much acid. But I got so I could not pass the urine and it was the most painful thing I ever had. I drank a lot of water and called up my Dr. and he said “when you were here I gave you medicine for that for I knew there was an infection.” So he ordered me to take more of the medicine and come and see him when he came back in two weeks (his vacation). Then your letter came and it never said a word about that condition and I took the colonic and sweats. But a friend told me tonight she had had this condition and nearly died, etc. So now I don’t know whether to go and have the bladder washed out and take some medicine, or what and I am writing to you to ask about it. I have been in great pain in the vagina and will ask you to attend to me right away, if you have not the time I will go to a Dr.

But please write me at once and oblige,

Funny letter today:

What do you suppose I would send you twenty good American dollars if I didn’t believe in ye and expected to follow your suggestions. Your message meant very much to me, and hit the nail on the head zactly, so why would I “forget it”?

You have probably received my letter by this time telling you how sick I have been. Am a little surprised that the man from over there didn’t tell me some thing about this infection that seems to be floating about.

I ate too much acid and that brought it on.

Well I have had the worse time with my urine, painful beyond speech and difficult to pass, weak as an old cat that has just had kittens. No appetite and there you are aside from that I’m all rite.

I have lived mostly on buttermilk and cottage cheese, but that won’t hurt no one no matter how much “pison” [poison?] they got.

This has all happened before your letter came, anyway I took the colonic and sweat and next day took the massage and then this old lady comed home and went to bed.

I take every nite an Epsom Salt bath for thirty minutes and believe it or not, I’m better this morning. Spect that old will got to working, for the East West meets Saturday and I got to be there. At least I think I am that important. It’s going off with a bang but it’s a one man show. If I would let down it would “pass out”, believe you me I have bitten off a mouthful but I am game and am going to see it through if I can wiggle.

As soon as I can find some one that is able to make it go, I am through and I spoze then I’ll pass on.

For the good Lord knows I have been doing his work the very best I have known how for lo these many years and maybe He can use me outside this old body and it is not such a bad body at that.

Folks say I’ll live forever, but I don’t want to be here too long. And now you behave yourself and don’t write me any more letters about “forgetting”. I feel I have made a new friend, perhaps renewed an old friendship, if you believe that way, and I’m for you to the bitter end.

Dear Mrs. [3059]

I have both of your letters of the third. Just why the information did not mention something that you felt was very important, I do not know, but I feel very sure that if you follow the suggestion that is given that you will find a relief just as is suggested in your letter that you are feeling better after taking part of the suggested treatment.

Do you still have trouble with the activity of your bladder? Try just holding a small piece of resin in your mouth - DO NOT chew or swallow it - just hold it in your mouth, and I think this will cleanse the whole system.

Thanking you for your letter and for the piece of poetry enclosed. I am with all good wishes, and hoping that you will let us hear from you again, soon.

My Dear Edgar Cayce,

Your last letter received and glad to hear from you. I have taken one colonic one sweat two massages and go again Wednesday to the Battle Creek Method on … for a colonic and massage. I have taken the resin and am getting on, slowly.

I would like an appointment for the spiritual reading which I am looking forward to with great joy.

I have two copies of “There is a River” and keep them on the move continually. John Tettemer, a very great soul who was a monk in the monastery of Rome for twenty-five years and then left is, telling the Pope of Rome that he could not teach their teachings to children any longer. He passed after that through Theosophy then gave that up and is now a freed soul and freed indeed.

I loaned him the book and he said it was six in the morning before he could lay it down finished, and he is much interested in your work for me.

Sister Daya of the Ashrama of La Cresenta is as deeply interested as John. So I keep your books on the move knowing they’re doing good.

May I take your time to tell you my dream, or experience of a few mornings ago. I awoke at eight A.M. then went to sleep again and was in Rome, at St. Peters. There were many American sailors and there was a moving picture in the church for the boys. I was rather close, took off my shoes, lay down my pocket book and then decided I was too close, so moved back, and was surrounded by Navy boys. Soon I found I was sitting on an open boat and it began to move away. I was alarmed and begged them to let me off. They pulled up to the shore and I got off, saw the facade of the church plainly but in some way got turned around and started off in the opposite direction. Soon I came to a stream of tar. I was barefooted and walked through it. Then a steep hill arose and I closed my eyes and walked to its top. Then there was tressling and pipes, and all seemed to be underground. Soon I met a small man and he said, “Where are you going my child” and I said “To the church of Rome”. He said “You don’t look able”. I replied “I am able but I have not a cent of money”. He offered me a dollar, and I kept on going. I came to the church (I have never been in Rome) but on all sides of the church there were doors, and I went in many, all holding services, and I said to a sister, “Can you tell me where the main entrance to the church is, I must go in there”. I reached the steps of the entrance but never got in, nor got my shoes or pocketbook. I feel this was an experience for I could not come out of it all the next day. Perhaps it is the building of the E. & W.

Dear Edgar Cayce,

I have had a scar on my left eye for a long time, but it has not bothered me. But since my writing to you it seems to have moved a little and is over the pupil and it makes me see double.

I have a colonic and a massage, and I thought I was going to pass on last night. I could hardly see out of either eye and my left arm pained so dreadfully and I had pains in the chest. I kept just as quiet as I could but was very miserable.

Perhaps the massage is too much, or perhaps it gets worse before it gets better. Today I can scarcely see at all.

Shall I keep on every week?

I am going in the morning to the eye Dr. for new glasses, wonder if I had better wait…

I would like a line from you advising me.

Dear Mrs. [3059]

Thank you very much for yours of the twentieth. I am glad to know that you are slowly on the improve. I feel that if you are keeping up the good work, you will be much better. I appreciate your interest and thank you for keeping the book on the move and any that you may interest.

It is quite an interesting dream you had, and I am sure, very soon, you will see or hear at least of some of our boys being in Rome. I think all such experiences should be studied very carefully. If you will write these experiences down - you can put them away - you will soon have another experience that will go along with it and in this way you will be able to interpret your dreams much better. Try this, for I feel that you will have other experiences that will be closely allied with it.

For the mental and spiritual reading, we are setting for the morning of February 28, from 10:30 to 11:30, E.W.T. We have to know, of course, a few days before that time just where you will be at that hour and also make a list of questions to have asked at the time.

Dear Edgar Cayce,

Just to report on myself.

I have taken treatments for five weeks alternating colonic and sweat. Last week took colonic and then massage. After, that night, I was wakened in the night by the blood surging in my head, and a severe pain in left arm and chest, and I could not see.

In a day or so I had an engagement with the Dr. for change of glasses, and when I told him about the night or so ago, and he examined my eyes he said I would never come nearer to a stroke.

I have been in bed ever since. Told Battle Creek I could not take more treatments just now, too strenuous for me.

Can’t see yet, every thing blurred and pressure two hundred.

What do you see for me?

I have yours of the twenty-seventh. Evidently, from your report, the massage is not being given properly, for the massage if properly given with the colonic should reduce your blood pressure. See about this, and I know this is not proper. It should control it.

I have yours of the twenty-fourth. I will have to reiterate there is something wrong with the way in which your massages are being given. Go to a good osteopath and let us see if they can’t change all this for you; for with the colonics, the correction should be such as to be of [not?] any hindrance to the blood pressure, but to reduce it and so distribute the eliminations as not to cause you any trouble with any of the organs of the sensory system. See a good osteopath, won’t you, and let me hear from you.

R11. 8/3/43 [3059]‘s ltr. to EC:

Dear Dr. Cayce,

Your letter received this morning.

I had to quit the colonics and massages for the time being. I have been in bed and was obliged to have the Dr. Ross for the past two weeks, blood pressure very high and from a hemorrhage on the eye of long standing, which the massage seemed to arouse I was unable to see to get around.

Quieting down a little but still in bed.

I hope I will still be here in Feb. Seems like that is an awfully long time to wait, but I see you are a busy man and I know you are making some one happy, so we will let it go at that.

That is the next reading.

If I am able to take up the colonic and massage later I shall. When I had my eyes examined the Dr. said my trouble was my heart. Dr. coming this afternoon again.

Dear Edgar Cayce

Your letter came today.

I am not able to take either colonics or massages. Am under the Dr. care and in bed.

I can not see out of one eye. It seems I had had a scar on one of my eyes. It didn’t trouble me, but the rub was so strenuous that some thing happened to my eye, and now the eye doctor says it will never be any better, it blurs the other eye.

So I will just go easy for a little while.

The Dr. says my urine is full of pus and he is working to clear that up. I suppose the poison in the body that you spoke of is the cause of that condition. I feel most discouraged but perhaps it will get better.

Dear Edgar Cayce,

Well I have had a long siege of sickness. Ever since I had the massage I have been lain up. The Dr. says have had two strokes and it has drawn my eye way to one side.

Am in bed a good part of each day and have nurse and Dr.

Thought you might like to hear this report.

My blood pressure was over two hundred and the one who massaged me did not know it, so was rubbed too hard. The man is considered one of the best in Pasadena.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Some time ago after reading “The River”, I sent you twenty dollars for a reading of my body and a reading following for my life horoscope. You read the physical one and sent instructions which I followed by employing a Dr. to give me the massages. The result to me was very detrimental. I have had two strokes and am almost blind. I have asked for the reading that was coming to me and which I paid for. Now I get a letter about membership. I am not interested in membership to anything and only asked you for the reading that is coming to me.

You told me at the time my reading would occur in Feb. and that is the reason I wrote you.

Of course you can do as you please about the reading, but I shall send no more money.

Dear Mrs. [3059]

I have your letter of March 30th and note what you have to say about your having another reading.

This is perfectly alright and it isn’t that we are trying to get any money out of you, but evidently from some of your letters you have not been pleased with the information you have received. Why would you want further information? I had rather return your money that you have already paid, than to attempt to give you something that may be quite adverse with your present feelings.

Our experience has been for almost half a century, that unless a person is in perfect accord or attune with our undertakings, or at least considers us sincere, not very much can be accomplished.

Please understand you have not paid for a life reading, or any other reading. We will be glad to return the amount of money you have paid to the Association. Let me hear from you, and if you are still desirous that we undertake the life reading for you, we will do so, but it will be several months, because there are many thousands who have been requesting appointments.

I am very sorry that this has happened and that we were not able to take it up in the appointment in February, but I was ill and there were hundreds that were just as badly disappointed as you. We are sorry to disappoint them, but we couldn’t help ourselves.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I am blind & have never seen one word of literature which you say has been sent to me. You gave me a reading some time ago & endorsed massages. I took about 4 & then had a slight stroke - which caused hemorrhages in the eyes & a clot back of the eye has caused blindness. The Dr. says in about 6 or 8 months it may dissolve. So I do not know what you speak of me returning.

I am going to a nursing home in short time for complete care.

I never rec’d the second reading which I was promised & paid for so I am dissatisfied with your work for me. It seems so strange in that the first reading would have known some thing about what I was going thru.

I am sure you are very sincere in your work, but I was already too active & it is strange I wasn’t told to slow down.

I certainly thought you owe me some thing for the entire thing has been a tragedy for me.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I was happy to get your letter and wish too, we might have a talk, I know of nothing that would give me greater joy.

I read the booklet, but don’t seem to understand whether one can, at different times have a reading on physical, mental and life.

The first concern is my health, for when I tell you I am 75 years old and go at a thirty five year clip, you will know that I do not take the proper care that an old lady should have.

While in China I was told by Dr. that I had hardening of arteries and many other things, but it has not stopped me in my mad rush to “get the truth”. I have spent much of these years in study, have been every thing from Christian Science to Theosophy in its last stages, until I have come to feel there is good in all and all in good, I have no prejudice of race color or creed and strive to live the life daily and hourly.

But my head is out of whack for some reason, sinus or some thing like that and I would like to have you look me over and tell me in what way I can better myself, then I want a spiritual reading, I presume you call that a life reading and I am wondering if the twenty dollars included these readings. I am not able financially to do very much doctoring, however I went to the Dr. a month ago and an examination of blood, urine, etc., said I was pretty good.

I note that you recommend different treatments and a Dr.

I believe God can do wonders if He is given a chance and I am heart and soul with your work.

Please let me know at once about these readings and take me as soon as you can for health. I will send the twenty as soon as I hear from you.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Your letter received and glad to know you are able to push my engagement forward.

I will be in bed on the morning of the twenty second at seven thirty to eight thirty, I get up at nine.

I would like to know what is the matter with my head, my hands and my heel. Was told in China it was hardening of arteries.

Have I had a light stroke?

I grow very dizzy at times, when I am walking and have to stop until it passes. Not much energy, except in my mind.

Is the work I have undertaken too much for me???

I have loaned The River to many to read and feel it is a vital work.

I have a little stock in Cilacar Co. It is flat today. Will it come back?

I have some business property I have been paying taxes on for twenty years, will I ever sell it??

I have no pep, no energy and heavy as lead most of the time, what is it? age???
