This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 12th day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the daughter, Miss [3328], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. Ralph Courtney and the book, THERE IS A RIVER.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno.]
Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions; also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes - this MIGHT have been helpful!
-
As we find, conditions have progressed to such an extent that this may mitigate the disturbance, may only mitigate the disturbance. For, it is as if the energies in the nerve system were being used up. Not as in multiple sclerosis, yet the inability for the use of the locomotory nerves is somewhat similar.
-
This is the lack of the ability of the glandular force, then, to supply the nerve matter as it is used in the body.
-
We find that what may be suggested here may aid, but the deterioration by the nerve fatigue - or nerve anemia has reached such proportions that organs are becoming involved in same.
-
Chloride of Gold administered vibratorially may assist the body to gain strength, if there is also used an oil rub following same.
-
These, then, we would do:
-
We would use the Wet Cell Appliance with the regular charge, carrying Chloride of Gold vibratorially into the body - in the proportions of one grain to each ounce of distilled water, and use at least three ounces in the Appliance.
-
Each day for thirty minutes make the attachments as follows:
-
The large nickel plate, through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially, would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct area, or - on this body - four fingers from the navel center to the right and three fingers up from that point.
-
The small copper plate would be attached to the 9th dorsal.
-
Be sure the attachment plates are kept clean, polished before and after using. Take the connections out of the solution when not in use, and connect to the Appliance about twenty minutes before it is to be applied to the body.
-
Recharge the Appliance every thirty days. Change the Gold Solution every fifteen days.
-
Keep all the connections clean, and do not let them corrode at all.
-
Each day following the use of the Appliance, massage the body with an equal combination of Peanut Oil and Olive Oil. Commence at the 9th dorsal and rub downward. Then commence at the head - at the base of the brain - and rub down the spine and over the body, in a circular motion. This should include the brachial center, and particularly the lumbar axis in the lower portion of the body, but all in a circular motion, so that all may be absorbed of the oil that is possible.
-
The weakness will continue unless there is sufficient vitality restored to the activity of the glandular force as related to the circulation, especially of nerve supply.
-
These, as we find, offer the greater opportunity for regaining any strength.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) She is taking quinidine. Is that to be continued? (A) This would be continued, for it is a helpful force for the activity of the glands of the body.
-
(Q) Is too much concentration on mathematics a cause? (A) Too much concentration on anything for the time being is harmful. There should be much of rest and sleep, but in the open as much as possible.
-
(Q) What is her liver condition? (A) There are congestions, naturally, from the attempts for the purifying of the body with so little energy in nerve forces.
-
(Q) What caused the nerve and heart condition? (A) Overstrain without proper balance in the diet to supply the elements necessary. As should be indicated, the diet for one that labors in the field is one thing. The diet for one who labors at drawing or writing or painting is another. The diet for one who does nothing is something else (except think about having a good time)! But the diet for one who uses the brain forces in his activity should be something entirely different!
Seafoods are better for this body, taken often; not these alone, but plenty of seafoods, chicken, crisp breakfast bacon, eggs and the like are better for the body.
- We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/1/43 Daughter [3328]‘s letter to EC:
“With regard to my mother’s physical reading, received last July, thank you for sending it airmail. She is following what she feels she can. She was worse after we reached …, so before the reading came, it was necessary to call in a doctor who could come there. You will perhaps be interested to know that as far as diagnosis went, yours and Dr. Winkler’s (he is an anthroposophical doctor from Vienna) were practically the same. Both advise along similar lines, in general, but remedies differ. Having begun with Dr. Winkler first, Mother thought she should continue, as she has made some improvement. As he wishes a mild form of ultra-violet ray treatment, but only if she is able to go to New York where he could supervise it, which she is not at present, she does not dare do anything else electrical, without supervision. I did not wish you to feel that because Mother had not followed through with the electrical equipment and treatment, that everything was wasted. I cannot know which course would do her the more good. Circumstances having forced her to seek aid before the reading could come, she feels it wiser to continue, as she does require a doctor’s supervision. As Dr. Winkler is reputed to have some clairvoyant gift also, I hope his method may be achieving as much, but I cannot tell. I do not think much can be done anyway. In any case, she has to decide for herself…”
R2. 11/25/50 Daughter [3328]‘s letter:
“This is a very tardy answer to your previous notices. I have been terribly pressed as my mother has been seriously ill since early August. This entailed heavy expenses for nurses, tests, doctors and she is still in a nursing home, and the expenses will go on. So, although five dollars is very little, I must cease memberships in this and several other organizations until we can get caught up, as together they mount up. I’m terribly sorry. The spirit is certainly with you, but that doesn’t help you pay your bills!”
R3. 7/1/51 “My mother died in January, after a very difficult illness.”

B1. 6/3/43 Daughter [3328]‘s letter to EC: “Thank you for the interesting booklet, and your understanding, though necessarily disappointing, letter. I enclose the applications and checks.
“At the outset, I wish to be clear that we do not mean to attempt to persuade you to make exceptions to your necessary routine or your correct procedure. What I ask is: Does my mother’s case come under the heading of emergency, for which the booklet states, the order in turn is not adhered to? She is seriously incapacitated, (I understand you do not need nor wish descriptions of the ailments) and there seems to be no further medical recourse to seek. She is not suffering pain, (except from occasional headaches) but her weakness is considerable, and the attacks are so frequent as to leave little time between. The disease is named, diagnosed in the sense of being labeled, and the only known remedy is used to lessen the length of the attack, but the cause is a matter of pure conjecture. It is a slowly progressive thing, but I fear she will soon be forced to be in bed nearly all the time, and then it will be pretty much a case of merely waiting to go.
“At seventy-five, Mother is still able to tutor algebra and geometry when she is up and about between attacks. She enjoys it and is sorely needed, as to my knowledge, she and one other are the only tutors available in this town for high school mathematics.”
B2. 6/17/43 Daughter [3328]‘s letter to EC: “Thank you very much for pushing Mother up in the schedule. July 12th, 10:30 EWT. will be quite all right; so also will be October 23rd, 3:30, for me.
“The questions for my mother:
- What is the cause of the nerve and heart condition? (Doctors claim cause is not known.) One M.D., also an anthroposophist, claims that too much concentration on mathematics, is a cause.
- Is this true?
- If this is so, should all mathematical work be given up?
- Is this curable,or can it only be alleviated?
- What is her liver condition?
- She is taking quinidine. Is that the best remedy?
“We shall appreciate whatever information you may give us.”
B3. 7/7/43 Daughter [3328]‘s letter to EC: “Since coming here in June, Mother’s heart attacks became more frequent, so she thought it advisable to consult one of the anthroposophical doctors who comes here: Dr. Franz Winkler of …, New York City. At home her physician is Dr. Vincent Farmer, of …, Hackensack, New Jersey.
“Can you get any information as to the rightness or wrongness of what these doctors have prescribed?
“Dr. Farmer prescribed a liver and iron (or some other minerals) compound; also brewer’s yeast daily. Then, during the attacks, she takes one-half grain quinidine capsules every three hours until the attack is over. As she sleeps part of the time, she usually takes no more than four capsules. Dr. Farmer advised taking them closer together, but it seemed to give a queer feeling in the head; and the duration of the attack was not shortened. Dr. Farmer advised mineral oil regularly. She uses citro-carbonate for a rather occasional acid stomach.
“Dr. Winkler wishes Mother to give up the liver and yeast temporarily, and objects to mineral oil. He prescribed a compress for the heart, twenty minutes daily, and three medicines: one to be taken three times a day, one to be taken twice daily, and one to be taken once daily. We do not yet know the ingredients of these prescriptions. He also wishes her to do without the quinidine, if possible.
“We shall be here until after July 12th, the date of the reading, and we expect to return home a few days thereafter. If the results of the reading are mailed by July 13th, please send to us here at … Otherwise, please send to our home address…”
B4. 7/9/43 Daughter [3328]‘s letter to EC: “Following are the prescriptions Mother is taking from Dr. Winkler:
Coramine: Ten drops on awakening and before retiring with a little water. Ambergris tincture: Twenty drops with a little water before lunch. Arnica lotion: 5% - dilute 1.1 with water and make compresses on heart for at least twenty minutes every day. Birch Preparation: One tablespoonful three times daily with some liquid in between meals. Saraka: For laxative when needed.
“I don’t know that you need this information. The other questions I asked in a previous letter…”
