This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 30th day of June, 1934, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [310], Active Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 11:20 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, Alabama.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of [310], …, Ala., in regard to the information requested in her wire, a copy of which I hold in my hand. You will give a physical and mental reading on this body, with advice, counsel and guidance as to her better general welfare, answering the questions which she has submitted.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [310]; this we have had before.

3. In the general physical forces of the body there is a great deal of physical stress upon the general system at this time. The anxieties have worked as much of a hardship as have the physical disorders.

4. We find that it would be well for the connections on the Radio-Active Appliance (that has been and is such a help to the body) to be renewed entirely in such a way and manner that there may be the better coordinations with the physical forces of the body in its use.

5. Also we find it would be helpful at this time to use a combination that would be compounded in this manner:

6. To 2 ounces Compound Simple Syrup, add - in the order named:

Essence of Lactated Pepsin…1 ounce, Glycerin…10 minims, Tincture of Valerian…1/4 ounce, Elixir Calisaya…1/2 ounce, Essence of Wild Ginger…1/4 ounce, Alcohol…1 ounce.

7. Shake the solution together before the dose is taken, which would be taken mornings upon arising and evenings when ready to retire; half a teaspoonful, and a glass of water.

8. As to meeting those material conditions, and the associations contemplated that would make for changes:

Under the existent conditions, as this will be somewhat of a temporary change - and while out of line with some of those associations that we have given for the body, we find that these connections - with the body’s physical changes, with the associations that may be brought about - may be USED by the body as stepping-stones to those things that may bring the better surroundings and greater contentment to the body; that is, being associated with Young.

10. The manner of the contract: As it calls for certain activities on the part of the body, and in part is to be considered what may be called a portion in the form of commission activity, this may not be wholly satisfactory at first; hence it will be well that the body weigh all the circumstances, all the changes that such an association involves or entails, and then ask self: “Must it be drawn as has been outlined?” And get the answer in the conscious self, Yes or No. Then, in the deep meditation and prayer, find the answer to that Yes or No.

11. For, in this manner may the conscience of self (that factor dealing with the inner influences in the souls and hearts of all) find contentment in such an activity. And unless one may enter into an association or relation - whether in those things that deal with the commercial world or those things that deal with the mental activities - with that joyousness and buoyancy of purpose that in such a manner may it serve its fellow man and thus magnify the glory of the Father in the earth, it is best not to enter.

12. Yet, as given, as we find, if these associations are made, they would be well - and may be used as the stepping-stones for the better, the greater activity of the body, [310].

14. (Q) Please advise details, terms of work - (A) (Interrupting) This has been outlined by those conversations and talks, you see, and must be weighed well. Well that it does carry the commission clause, for - while as given, it may not be so satisfactory at first - it will be the more satisfaction as conditions progress.

15. But it must be known that it is of a temporary nature.

R1. After planning, thinking and planning again many times over for a time long enough to say some of the numberless things I wish to write to you, I had given up doing this until the Thanksgiving break in the regular routine for me, and here it is almost ten at night, but I feel like saying “I will not be outdone in even a small attempt”, and particularly as this has the fine purpose of definitely trying herein to help some one else. To say that I have thought of you daily would not nearly express the truth, always with the feeling of positive embarrassment, except for fact that it seems that no more will time permit me to do the things I know should be attended for meeting the duties that come face to face with me. Know that you have found it hard to realize that it could be this particular scalawag who would be so guilty, and I accept all accusing thoughts and deserve more, but in my heart, I have had the same dear inside spot for you, and the keenest appreciation of what you did for me, and will always mean to me, too.

Come what may, or what may not, you cen count on me as being with you dear ones in thought, and know that sometime I will let you know that I am living yet. Never thought anything would cause me to S.O.S. you precious folks just when I knew that you were so busy with the Congress - friends, work, etc., but we just never know, and I have ceased to call myself thinking anything will or will not happen. But wish I might have a whole day to try to tell you just the predicament or situation which was mine when I wired you for the reading the day the message was sent, as it seemed I had almost reached my limit of decision, which at that time appeared to have to be rendered by 8 that Friday night. Still so sorry that the message was not clear to you as to this, but surely the purpose of it was not wasted, even if I idid not follow my feelings the next (Sat.) morning and send you wire not to have it, after I did not receive a night letter from you Fri. night. Know this must seem so rambling and indefinite to you, but will say that just the being most queer in all my world came along, and for three days was seeming to offer to me quite a different work, but there seemed something all the time that held me back. Then, I really prayed that I might decide best, that God would let me have some positive way of knowing, and that conditions would prove this for me. Sure enough before I retired on Friday night I knew most positively that I was not to work for him, and he did not come to house until Sat. A.M. I was most decided by that time, let him know it; he left presumably to return later in morning. When he left I knew that he would not come again, and it just happened that I was doing some rather rush work for a travelling man, who had given me various bit of work during the past months, at the time that this QUEER SIR GENTLEMAN came in. I was so glad that the Atlanta man was here, and think that he realized my pleasure at having him, too.

These features I mention that you may appreciate with me the very extreme unusualness of this reading as obtained by you or given by you. The information was gained after I had not only decided not to work for him, but had seen him, dismissed the idea of any work for him, and did not see him again. Then, too, at the exact time that you gave the reading I was in Dr. Harper’s office, talking with a future pupil from our of town. She had phoned me to meet her, and as soon as I finished with the travelling friend’s work, I went immediately there. This is another very unusual feature in that I was not at address given, and had no idea of being at Dr. Harper’s office when I sent the message. Then, the queerness of the man will be more evident to you in that he gave me two names, and one of these you mentioned in the reading: this was his introduction - “I am Ira K. Young, but King is my real name. Ira K. Young is my pen or writing name, bequeathed to me by my uncle, and I use it almost entirely for everything now”. With all this, let me say that I do thank you for doing this for me, and more than all for you to do this for ME just when you did. It is useless for me to say to you dear ones who know the reading even better than I feel that I do, that I was purely at the Nth degree of UPSETTEDNESS, and was not surprised at anything suggested for me physically. So much for that.

Did go to Conf., finished with a group of pupils just a few days before leaving, had a pleasant but most strenuous time during Conf., arrived home of Sun. late P.M., and at 8 the next morning I was beginning with a new group. Have not missed s day teaching except Sat. and Sun. (of course) until today, and still I have not had so many pupils, but some of these started alone, and naturally this takes much of my time. I am not complaining, for more and more do I feel that surely the work will mean something eventually, if it continues - at present it is more work than present tuition, but believe this will come in time, too. Have a most congenial group all of the time, have not yet even thought of regretting that I began this work. So many feel so kind and thoughtful of me in my attempt. I begin every morning at 8, and some afternoons 5 finds me just closing the job, but not all consecutive hours in afternoon - always from 2-4, with additions as arrive. Do very little outside typing, etc., or have calls for little of this type of the work, but some occasionally, and when least expected at that.

R2. 5/17/35 She requested 929-1 for her brother, saying: “I am fairly sizzling with things pertaining to me personally, even if my family in Miss., especially are physically in need of my knowledge of other than the usual - My business plans have been teeming recently, and I feel that possible I might do well to ask help from you folks again for ME, but must not be piggish, and know that physically speaking others must come first. But I am certainly thinking your direction, too.

Hope you are not surprised by now that even when changes seem to be for me - good or bad - that I do think toward you - I still believe I feel with each experience or reading that it is more than mysterious to me, wonderful to the extreme degree, and beyond my understanding - I may have such - and yet I have always felt that a Life Rdg. would be a treasure for me.”

R3. 6/24/36 She referred a young man for 1214-1 for his father.

R6. 8/16/37 Mother of [1413] wrote: “Mrs. [310] has a busy life but that after all is the only way to happiness. She really has quite a class and is making quite a success too.”

R7. 1/18/46 She wrote HLC of her continuing business school teaching in her home, on a quite expanded basis.

R8. 3/14/55 Friend Mrs. [2457] wrote: “Mrs. [310] has been in the hospital since 2/14th. The reason she went was to be tapped. Thought she would be there 2-3 days, but after being tapped of almost 12 qts. of fluid it began ‘creating’ again and 2 wks. later about 8 qts. was drained and tomorrow is another 2 wks. and another tapping. She started out with a heart condition but think now it’s a liver condition - cirrhosis of the liver. She looks worlds better. The upper part of her body from shoulders up is very thin but from the breasts down - oh, me, you’d never know it was [310]. We’re hoping for whatever the best may be.” [She had to discontinue her business school last fall due to illness.]

R9. 1/19/57 She died in a hospital to which she had been admitted a week ago. She had been ill for the past four years at her residence.
