This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - [3115], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - as we find, the greater disturbance here lies in a glandular condition; the activity of the thyroids and their effect upon circulation in limbs and the effect upon the whole of the nervous system.

3. Those indications in finger nails, toes, and the rash on body, condition of scalp and hair, all are effects of this condition on the organs of the body.

4. These have grown to be rather serious. There must be more cleanliness about the body itself. This is not indicating that the body is unmindful, but rather the body is negligent about the precautions it should take with itself at certain periods.

5. In making administrations for this body, as we find:

6. First we would begin taking internally one drop of Atomidine in half a glass of water each morning before breakfast, for two weeks.

7. Then leave off for a week. Then repeat for the two weeks.

8. When the second series of the Atomidine is completed, begin with general hydrotherapy treatments once each week. These should include the cabinet sweat, the needle showers, and thorough rubdown, followed by the heat treatment electrically from the Diathermy, for the low resistances - and for this irritation or rash that occurs especially on areas where the patches of the lymph and emunctories are the more active.

9. Every two weeks, or twice a month, this general hydrotherapy treatment should be preceded by a high colonic irritation - say the 1st and the 15th of the month, or thereabout.

10. In the matter of the diet, - keep away from all characters of fats and sweets. Only use honey as the sweets.

11. Do use whole grain cereals.

12. The meats should consist only of fish, fowl and lamb.

13. No fried foods.

14. Use mostly the leafy vegetables.

15. If these are done, we may find responses - if there is the consistency in following out these suggestions for three to four months in all.

16. Do this, for the better conditions.

17. Ready for questions.

18. (Q) Why is the trouble worse in the winter? (A) This is the form of the glandular reaction. When there is the violet ray, or the sunshine, this is aided. Thus, as indicated, use the Diathermy - which is as the violet ray or electric ray - to stimulate the internal organs of the system.

19. (Q) Will it be bad for my health to stay in my N.Y. apartment this winter? (A) This depends upon the activities of the body. If at least a portion of the time is spent in the open, it should not be bad.

20. (Q) What will relieve the sinus trouble, and eliminate phlegm? (A) Do these things as indicated, settling up better drainages through the system, causing the activities of the glands to be more in keeping with the general system.

21. (Q) Noise in ear? (A) Do these things, and we will find better forces all through the body.

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

I cannot find atomidine in any drugstore here. I was using liquidine [?] which is: 1/16 of a grain free iodine and 1/12 of a grain sodium iodine. Can it replace atomidine? I have used it on and off since a few months. If atomidine is different please tell us where to get it?

I have your card of the fifth. Atomidine is quite different from any of the other forms of iodine and we will give you the address, herewith:

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

I just read again a “reading” you gave me on July 28, 1943 for my health.

I followed carefully the instructions for 2 months, got a bad cold which brought bronchitis and I had to stop the hydrotherapy treatments. New York was so cold for me and I went to Arizona hoping that the WARM DRY air would cure my sinus trouble.

It did not. I stayed there 14 months. I spent each successive Winter in Florida returning home to New York for the Summer.

To this date I am not cured. I follow your diet suppressing the sweets and fats and my doctor gave me an iodine preparation which I take since years for the thyroid glands. New York will soon be too cold for me so take hydrotherapy & do not dare to start it again. I may in Florida if I go to Miami. If in Orlando it will not be possible. It was not possible in Arizona.

I have a constant ringing in right ear which becomes worst when I walk so I avoid walking - NO DOCTOR CURES ME. The rash comes on my neck and hands and spoils my life. The doctor calls my ear trouble “auto-sclerosis.” It is due to phlegm coming from my sinuses and dropping in the throat - no one can cure that. What can you suggest?

I took the atomidine for 1 month. I shall follow your diet but hydrotherapy I fear as N.Y. is too cool now. Which state is best for me in Winter?

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Enclosed the questions regarding a health reading. Please try to avoid giving me a reading on Tuesdays as it is the only day I am busy and I would like to be quiet the day of my reading, any other day will do. I’ll appreciate to know the day in advance.

Yesterday, I learnt that the wife of an old acquaintance passed away. I had admired much this lady for her good qualities, she gave me piano lessons a few years.

For several days I had practiced a piece of piano unsuccessfully. After the news of her passing away I played and thought of her. For the 1st time I played the piece perfectly and felt her around me wishing me well. Could it be possible that this lady wishes to advise me now during a health reading? She knew of my health condition.

I am asking this reading at a time when I am getting better. Could you go back and see the bad Winters I spent each year at home (4, 5 sometimes 6 months without going out) and WHAT CAUSES THIS TROUBLE? Half of my life is spoiled that way. For the last 10 years I had a rash coming and lasting 2, 3 months then going to return and leaving the skin hard and yellow, adding years to my age. I consulted many skin specialists without success. Now it comes less often but I get chronic colds taking all the strength out of me.

I will appreciate so much your help.

Physical Reading

I) CAUSE of a skin trouble of 10 years duration? It comes and goes, hardens the skin which remains yellow and hard between attacks. It is not as severe as it was but still HARDENS AND DRIES much the skin on face and neck. Treatment? and cause? I consulted skin specialists 10 years without help.

II) Cause and treatment for sinus trouble which obliges me to stay home 4 to 5 months indoors each Winter? Constant little noise in right ear! and head.

III) I’d like to be able to sing. What can I do to improve my voice?

IV) Please let me know what I can do to reduce my ankles? They are so swollen after confinement of 5 to 6 months at home each Winter.

Could you describe my bedroom in which I will stay the day you indicate for my reading? Please tell me a few days in advance the day you reserve for my reading.

Unfortunately I am sending this in Spring time when I am better so you may not see how much I suffer each Winter. I am well in Summer. Please try to see what causes my troubles each Winter. It starts in OCTOBER - NOVEMBER to last till MAY. I have to stay indoors. Try to go back and see the Winter months for me.

P.S. …I am very sorry Dr. Alexis Carrel is in France now as he would have helped me in following the advice of your reading. He was head of the Rockefeller Institute in New York and wrote a book with which you are probably familiar “Man the unknown” in which he stresses the importance of the mind in the well being of a person. In his scientific work he was often puzzled by facts he could not explain scientifically and in which he believed. This brought him much criticism by the medical profession.

I am not sure my present doctor would co-operate. I do not know his beliefs (he is an excellent physician). You might tell me if it is advisable for me to mention the reading to him, otherwise, I would refrain. I know that he is interested in the cause of my trouble.

I receive vaccine injections to prevent but I am not sure they are successful!

I do not know if time is the same in N.Y. as in Virginia (for time of reading 10.30 to 11.30 July 28th.)
