This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 31st day of July, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3121], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 3:35 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ky.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In undertone - “What a poor station!”) Yes, we have the body here, [3121].

3. As we find, there are disturbing conditions. This disturbance is of a nature that by some would be called karmic. Hence it is something the body PHYSICALLY, mentally, must meet, in its spiritual attitude first; that is: as the body may dedicate its life and its abilities to a definite service, to the Creative Forces or God, there will be healing forces brought to the body.

4. This requires, then, that the mental attitude be such as to not only proclaim or announce a belief in the divine, and to promise to dedicate self to same, but the entity must CONSISTENTLY live such. And the test, the proof of same, is longsuffering. This does not mean suffering of self and not grumbling about it. Rather, though you be persecuted, unkindly spoken of, taken advantage of by others, you do not attempt to fight back or to do spiteful things; that you be patient - first with self, then with others; again that you not only be passive in your relationships with others but active, being kindly, affectionate one to the other; remembering, as He has said, “Inasmuch as ye do it unto the least, ye do it unto me.” As oft as you contribute, then, to the welfare of those less fortunate, visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, visit those imprisoned - rightly or wrongly - you do it to your Maker. For, TRUTH shall indeed make you free, even though you be bound in the chains of those things that have brought errors, or the result of errors, in your own experience.

5. This, then, is the first spiritual approach - or the attitude with which the entity would seek to administer that which is helpful, that which will be met in nature.

6. For, as so oft has been indicated, each entity, each soul manifesting in the earth, is the result of that the entity has been, in its use of its opportunities, in its relationship to God the Father.

7. In the beginning let us consider that there is the body, the mind, the soul. The soul is spirit; the mind is as gas that may have its high or low pressure, and the body of its own; but the physical is of the earth-earthy. However, the body was made, was first created, of everything that was in the earth. Hence there are those influences that will meet these tendencies in the blood supply toward that called sarcoma in its nature.

8. This is a form, of course, of infectious disturbance of such natures as to fasten upon a body for its own destructive forces, and cells breaking have joined - as it were - one force against another. At times the destructive forces are in excess, and thus the injured portions of the body become more and more beset with these growths in the body, and they sap the vitality.

9. The organs, as organs, are very good. The body-mind is good; the tempering of same is within itself capable of being used towards being a helpful influence to someone, somewhere, sometime. And the time is ever now, when the opportunity presents itself.

10. The blood is infected, then, with these disturbances; such that the very nature of these induces the cellular force or the red corpuscles to become involved with same. And the sufficiency or the efficacy of the leukocytes in white blood to break or block off these gradually loses ground, when there is lack of sufficient vital forces in the blood stream to increase the number of the white blood and leukocyte force.

11. Hence this appears in the present to be more of a lymph involvement, but now and then the supplying of the vital energies lacking, especially in Vitamins D and B Complex, and K and G, the body is enabled to find or fight or to supply resistances in the fluid forces of the body for energizing and giving energy and life to the body.

12. As we find, these we would do in the present:

13. First we would give that there be prepared an ointment from the leaves of young Plantain, at this particular season of the year, growing in the vicinity where this body lives.

Yes, it is this herb that you desire oft to get rid of, in the yard, garden or walk. But do not use the seed, so much, in the ointment. Gather the tender leaves, about the quantity that may be crammed, not too tightly, into a pint cup.

14. Then put this into a quart enamel container (with an enamel or glass top) and add one pint of sweet cream, poured off the top of milk.

15. Cook this until it is rather thick. Do not allow to burn.

16. Then use it as an ointment over the areas where these protuberances gather at times - for they do vary. They become as warts or moles, that become infected and sore, and run. This ointment will tend to dry same.

17. But to purify these from the body-force, we would also take internally a Plantain Tea, made from the tender top leaves of the same plant, with - at this season, especially - the seed of the Plantain - about half and half. Fill half a pint cup with these, and add to one quart of Distilled or Rain Water - using only an enamel or glass container, not metal. Cook until reduced to about half the quantity, or half a pint of the liquid. Take this as a tea, a teaspoonful four times each day; after each meal and at bedtime. Keep this where it is cool, and if the quantity tends to turn a bit sour, discard it - but this whole quantity should be taken before it would sour. It is not so good to add a preservative for this particular material, for it changes this.

18. In the diet, - do live mostly, for a while, on watermelon, carrots, beets; having these almost daily. The watermelon is for the activity of the liver and kidney, the beets and carrots are for the purifying of the blood, as combined with the Plantain Tea and Ointment.

19. Most of all, pray. Let the mental attitude be considered first and foremost. Do not promise thyself, nor thy God, nor thy neighbor, that you do not fulfill.

Dear Sir:

I have just read the story of your life “There is s River” and was very much impressed by it. I have never read a book of any person’s life that impressed me more deeply.

When I was born I had a tumor on my left leg and after having had numbers of operations in 1938 ringworm developed in the scar tissue and it remained until the fall of 1942, then all over this area from the hip to the knee moles peppered all through the skin, and in the last two months I have been to Louisville, Ky. and had deep X-Ray Therapy used it seems that it is a partial success. They told me that I had about one chance in ten to live as the moles were indicative of cancer although none have developed to this date. However in the groin on the opposite leg there is quite an enlargement of the gland and although they do not tell me I get the impression that they are greatly concerned about this, and that it might spread, and get into the blood stream.

I have great faith in the kind of work that you have done and are doing and I think it is a shame that the world has not availed itself of this Divine Gift that you possess.

Let me know at once by air mail what I must do, and any way I can cooperate with you morally spiritually or financially I shall be more than glad to do so.

Send any literature that you have regarding the work that you and your son carry on.

Would like to have physical reading and life reading.

B2. 4/9/43 [3121]‘s letter:

Gentlemen:

I am enclosing herewith $20.00 in payment for Physical Reading.

As I told you in previous letter I have these moles for which the medical term is melanoma tumors or growth. I had them treated on one leg and the treatment was with X-Ray and Radium since that time I have had some more appear on my shoulder and probably one on the face. The doctors told me that if this got in the blood stream it would be fatal. I also have an enlargement of the gland on the opposite leg, and I don’t know if that is one of the lumps which form preceding cancer or not. Anyway I am in a terrible state of suspense not knowing if this thing will get me or not.

I have merely stated these facts and will let you decide whether you shall give an emergency reading or not.

I have filled in the blank for an Associate Member I would rather have had the Active Membership, but was afraid that it might delay the time for my reading. You can give me any information you wish regard that when you write me.

Am enclosing self addressed and Stamped envelope and you can let me know by return mail what disposition you wish to make of my case and when I will get reading.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I have your letter of the 12th. of April 1943 for which I am very grateful.

On the morning of May 4th. I will be at home from 9:30 until 10:30 and the time will be spent in the manner you ask in your letter. In fact the last few months have been spent in prayerful meditation when not very busy at work.

QUESTIONS -

Can diet be prescribed that will remedy in part my condition?

Will any treatment you prescribe conflict with the X-Ray and radium treatment which I have had recently or will take from the 5th. to the 10th. of May?

What caused the condition which I now have?

When should I have check reading?

Now with a prayer in my heart and utmost confidence in the healing power of the All Wise God, I believe that through you, I will receive the information that will permit me many years of happiness in this life. In any case it is not my will, but that His will be done. If it pleases God to take me from this life, I shall accept it without bitterness.

I think that you are doing a noble work and are to be commended very highly for it, and may God give you many more years of life that the people through you may be blessed.

Am sorry to be such a disappointment for you but on the afternoon of the 4th we were unable to even try a reading for you as the Secy [GD] who writes the readings was too ill with Measles to undertake to write it, and isn’t worth any thing unless can send you a copy of what is said. We are so limited to the number of readings can undertake, and all the periods until the 1st of Aug is promised to some one, and would thus upset hundreds of appointments to try and change some one. So am returning your membership and the fee 20.00. Should you wish to have us undertake this later, that is if you don’t get along alright then you will let us know.

Dear Sir:

I have your letter of May 15th. in which you state that you will give me reading on July 31st, from 2:30 till 3:30 my time.

I consider this a great favor and will give you the information you ask for in your letter of that date.

I will be at my home in …, Kentucky. I live in a brick house on … Street, on the left hand side of the street going up the hill. I will be in my den at that time reclining on a day bed, the color of which is dark green, the room is papered with wallpaper of an old English design, I have a large walnut desk in the room, a bookcase with a set of Harvard Classics, a large radio with recording apparatus included in the cabinet. This is the best description I can give you of just exactly where I will be.

I am praying that this will lead me to the information that will lead me to a recovery of my health.

I do not feel well at all and trust that this reading will give directions as to just what to do to get to feeling better.

I have bad digestion and sinus trouble in addition to the moles which I told you about in former correspondence.

I trust that everything will be correct for the reading this time and that I will not have to wait again, as I am in a pretty bad mental state just wondering what is wrong with me and just how serious it all is.
