GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3130].
-
Now as we find while there are disturbing conditions these are not as yet organic in their nature. Functional disturbances naturally arise from what might be very commonly called the “batteries” of the body having run down; that is, the nerve energies of the body, the ability to store energy, and the muscular force and the tendons of the body has given way, by the over-activity and the lack of vital energies in that assimilated by the system.
-
Hence, as we find there are lesions formed along almost every center where the cerebrospinal and sympathetic are - in the main centers - joined. To be sure, plexus at each segment, but those especially in the third cervical, first, second, and third dorsal, ninth dorsal and the lumbar axis particularly, and in the ileum plexus. We find there a building of a coating between or on the cushion ends of the segments.
-
Thus, the body is easily fatigued, with headaches at times, the heart becomes quickened at times, up-setting the body. And the weaknesses and the dizziness arise from these reflexes from cerebrospinal and the sympathetic nerve system.
-
As we find we would relax the body, not with dry heat but with a Fume Bath using Witchhazel fumes. Use two teaspoonsful to a pint of boiling water to produce the fumes. Following this, have a hot and cold shower and then a rub-down; using peanut oil along the spinal centers, not hard, but just relaxing those segments and connections in those specific areas as well as the body muscles. Thus, the peanut oil will be absorbed so as to feed the superficial circulation.
-
Such a treatment we would take twice the first week and after that, once a week. The first will tire out the body some, but take it easy, and rest after the applications are made. And we will find we will have helpful forces for this body.
-
The ultra-violet while the body is resting would be helpful provided the green light is projected between the light and the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) How may I regain my energy, confidence, and nervous equilibrium, to work again? (A) This will be gained by the gaining of strength and having the resistance. This we should have with those suggestions made by the ones making these applications.
In the diet, take plenty of vitamins that are body-building. As a supplement, we would take internally the One-A-Day Complex Vitamins. This means one tablet each day. Take these for three weeks, then leave them off a week, then take again for another three weeks.
Beware of white breads and white potatoes. But do eat often the sea-foods and all foods yellow in color, such as yellow corn meal; carrots cooked and raw; yellow squash. All of these should be a part of the meals. Not flesh, other than fish or fowl. The vegetables - not so much of dried beans or the like, but leafy vegetables are the better for the body.
Do these, and we will find better conditions.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 4/25/44 Letter: “I would like a check of my reading… My health is a little better, perhaps.”
R2. 5/27/44 Letter: “Is the nervous mental condition of almost constant fear dependent and part of my bodily condition and function, or is it derived from other sources?”
R3. 6/22/44 [3130]‘s letter [GD’s note: Did not get this letter till 6/29/44]:
Dear Mr. Cayce & Assoc. for Research & Enlightenment
As my CHECK reading is due - one week off (July 12th bet. 3:30 and 4:30 P.M.) when I will be quietly sitting receptive in the apt. at above address in N.Y. City during the hour.
I would like to give you more fully my present conditions and state of health as compared to July 12th 1943 (the original reading) and more recently than my letter to you of May 27th 1944 - I enclose a copy of that 1st reading of 1943 - to facilitate comparison with the present.
I feel your diagnosis then was undoubtedly correct. You suggested means be taken to improve impeded circulation of SPINE nerve centers and I have had osteopathy - magnitopath treatment and gamma rays to reach this - also hot and cold baths and ordinary massage (spine and all over) and I have taken vitamins and diet-changes although I did not CUT OUT all red meat as suggested and would be contrary to the the doctor’s advice here - but if the 2ND reading directs - I will go against his advice - in its respect to cooperate completely. My blood pressure which was HIGH in July 1943 and a big worry is now much lowered and really about almost normal except at times of excitement - I’m still VERY APPREHENSIVE and NERVOUS and (although better) if I had to ask any ONE question and could just concentrate on ONE point I’d like to see improved or removed a specific “remedy” suggested - it is the ever present (sense of DREAD I have) - physically - I feel like fainting - “passing out” - I avoid all public places - conveyances - crowds - fatigue - associated with public places - unpleasant effort - or news of any kind unpleasant. I feel I am SUFFOCATING. This is often in abeyance and I am better since JULY 1943 - still it is THERE - and prevents my calling myself a well person - as I never felt that way when I was WELL - I had a heart examination several times and (radiocardiogram) last Dec. 1943 and it was then NORMAL and still said by the doctors o.k. now.
I believe this dread is a result of nerves circulation and as Mr. Cayce said the “batteries run down” and circulation impediment. Also the spiritual and psychological factors - ALL IMPORTANT may I say here that I have become “religious” in that I pray sincerely and OFTEN and try to feel God’s presence - hourly - I have tried to overcome my faults - become less critical - more gentle - I had a fierce TEMPER - I think I can really say it is IMPROVED and I do not harbor the grudges and antagonisms. I try very hard not to give them hospitality within any more. I am trying to live according to the 4 gospels. My success is VERY SLIGHT - but still I’m ever trying - please Mr. Cayce how can I get rid of the dreadful DREAD (a physical and mental sensation) very horrid - I heard you speak in New York this winter - and I was touched. Every WORD you said was true and ALL that was needed. But I still need help as the dread and sense of FEAR paralyzes my will and action.
I’m writing this out fully if belatedly - as I didn’t understand ‘til the most recent communication that this was needed or desired by you and the Foundation - I wrote briefly May 27th 1944.
I shall be at this apt. … during the Reading on June 28th, ‘44, 3:30 to 4:30 P.M.
Yours sincerely, Mrs. [3130] June 22 - 1944

Background
B1. 4/18/43 [3130]‘s letter: “I ‘broke down’ when engaged in strenuous war rescue work for child refugees. I have placed and found homes for so many waifs, and I LONG to continue to be active and to help - everywhere there is so much need - and it grieves me to be frustrated in this natural purpose by my state of ‘nerves’ and energy. I have been ill 2 1/2 years and have been to the very best doctors in N.Y., and altho I am better they cannot seem to reach my condition entirely. I’m in a continual state of anxiety and fear, nervous and exhausted… The doctors are not discouraging to me, nor do they seem to think there is much wrong, but I’m only 52 yrs. old and I must regain my energy, confidence and nervous equilibrium to work again.”
[Question submitted:] How may I regain my energy, confidence and nervous equilibrium, to work again?
B2. 7/3/43 (Saturday) [3130]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Cayce -
I am all ready - awaiting my appt. July 12th 3:30 to 4:30 P.M. - reading.
There are not any very important changes concerning my condition which the doctor considers primarily a nervous exhaustion - collapse. Recently I had a slight heat prostration which elevated my blood pressure - makes it inadvisable for me to travel south at this season - also I am very nervous and apprehensive about undertaking any - even to the shortest journey or trip which might add to the ANXIETY neuroses I seem to have.
I hope you can clarify and suggest remedies - I’m at the menopause period - 52 yrs old - I had a similar breakdown when I was 18 years which lasted for 5 years and prostrated me - from which I was entirely cured - seemingly by a Dr. West - (now deceased) with his own method of osteopathy. I have tried osteopathy - this recent illness massage therapy - and have had - good doctors - of various kinds as well chiropractors - and building up vitamins and regimes of all kinds - without much improvement in the profound sense of exhaustion and anxiety. I feel that prostrates me and so I cannot be useful in life as I want to be.
I may add the best qualified doctors find no evidence of any mental or organic disease - I asked you not to mention in your findings anything that would greatly add to my abnormal anxiety about myself - I feel the remedy may be quite simple and at hand for my condition as there seems no real “reason” for it and yet it is very severe and persistent “case of nervous prostration”. I have become quite “religious” - being tho, deeply interested in spiritual outlook - trying to make myself better and better serve God & understand God - and to understand faith to overcome my nervous and physical condition. I do not seem to have yet.
Yours sincerely, [3130]
I am not bedridden - but get around - more or less around the place and little outdoors every day.
