-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3141].
-
As we find the analysis of this body that has been made is very good. We would not change its applications that are being made for this body, save for the condition of the knee.
-
We would massage the knee with table salt almost saturated with pure apple vinegar. This will be most helpful.
-
We would also add low electricity to sustain and build the vibrations of the body, as they are created by the administrations being made. This should be in the form of the Short Wave or Diathermy. This would be most helpful.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the primary cause deficiency in vitamin B? Is so why is this manifested only in that one nerve? (A) This as we find has been analyzed properly; it is not just one nerve but it shows in the one. Hence the heat from the low form of the Diathermy will, with these massages, be beneficial.
-
(Q) What will prevent the bronchial attacks? (A) These we find will come only when there is over-acidity in the system. Be mindful in the diet to keep to the more alkaline-forming foods. Eat plenty of citrus juices and fruits of all kinds, less of some characters of fruits - as apples or some characters of peaches; but the citrus fruits will keep down acidity. Thus with the changes as will be wrought with the Diathermy, we should have less trouble with the bronchial disturbances.
-
(Q) What causes the swelling of the legs? (A) This is a slowing of the circulation. The use of the Diathermy and the heat, with the massage, should change all of these.
Do that.
- We are through for the present.

R1. 8/17/43 [3141]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Many thanks for the “reading” of July 30th ult. I am delighted to learn that I am in as good shape as it seems to indicate.
And particularly pleased am I to find that my doctor has been on the “right track” - when I told him how pleased I was to find that he was correct, he emphatically announced “and so am I”.
I am urging my daughter [3320] - who goes about on crutches (due to nerve trouble, no doubt) to read “There is a River” and to make application for membership in the Association and for a “reading”. [Copied into 3320-1]
I shall do my best to follow the advice. But as to the diet I have my doubts on account of the “point rationing” to which we must bow “for the DURATION”. I am growing suspicious of the word.
Again my heartfelt thanks.
Believe me,
Very Sincerely Yours, [3141]
R2. 2/8/44 [3141]‘s letter [First part used in daughter’s report, 3320-1]:
As to myself - I was doing famously until I picked up a germ during the Flu epidemic at Christmas time. Spent two weeks in the hospital nursing a “New Deal” type of ailment. I said to the M.D. “this bronchial attack acts quite differently from the usual attacks - instead of coughing my insides out having no expectoration I now have considerable of the latter with very little coughing.”
Laughingly, the doctor said “you see you are having a different ailment, you are right in style with the latest malady, there is quite a bit of it going round - namely a combination of flu, bronchitis and pneumonia.”
I returned to my domicile on January 6th but recovery was very slow and it is only within the last few days that I found myself equal to the task of taking up my work and correspondence.
Wishing you every good thing for the year and always, believe me with warm regards,
Ever Sincerely Yours, [3141]

B1. 5/26/43 [3141]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am told that you have performed some wonderful cures in your time and I am wondering whether you would be so kind as to interest yourself in my case.
Two years ago I had an attack of that most painful disease TIC DOULOUREUX. The facial nerve was subdued by shots of certain medicines by the doctors but the lower lip broke open and although now and then it heals, it does not stay healed and I see no outcome but am wondering whether anything can be done to heal the trouble.
It seems the nerve is at the root of it because there is no germ in the wound - the break is from within not from germs without. A word from you will be greatly appreciated. Believe me.
Very sincerely yours, [3141]
Address envelope enclosed.
B2. 6/10/43 Letter: “The open lip often becomes very painful, and the doctor does not allow me to use anything to assuage the pain for the reason that it would only make a bad matter worse.”
B3. 6/14/43 [3141]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
Since last I wrote to you I have read the book There Is A River. In your last letter you ask for my comment on the book.
Having full faith in you and your marvellous work - also having somewhat of an understanding as to the unseen world, some of the simple narrative and family conversation at first proved somewhat wearisome - but - before I finished the book I found a plenitude of verbiage that is anything but simple and I am still busy at attempting to put the contents of the chapter on PHILOSOPHY into language more simple and understandable to the ordinary reader. [Handwritten note: I think I’ll let the language stand as it is, I am not able to simplify the lingo. All that is necessary is careful study.]
To the “rank and file” of people the book is probably written in the best possible style - ordinary readers have to be inducted into the profound mystery by degrees and I can see how the simple narrative of your life as given in THERE IS A RIVER is more compelling then would be a learned disquisition throughout the story.
What surprises me is the brusque manner of Hugo Munsterberg. From all that I know of him he is “such a gentlemen” and not at all like the boor described in the book. He evidently was thoroughly disappointed or knocked out and could not hide his chagrin.
You certainly deserve credit for “hewing to the line” and not allowing unscrupulous speculators turn your wonderful gift into a mercenary channel. God bless you and keep you in the prayer of [3141].
Very Sincerely Yours
B4. 6/24/43 EC’s letter to Mr. [3141]:
Mr. [3141] Pennsylvania
Dear Mr. [3141]:-
Thank you, Mr. [3141] for yours of the fourteenth. I am glad that you read the book, THERE IS A RIVER. I wish it were possible for everyone who has found the story in THERE IS A RIVER to read the letters that we have from people daily from all over the country. Not that it bestows any glory on me, but I feel everyone would feel better toward themselves and realize God’s promises are sure, provided that we apply the spiritual laws in our daily life.
I trust you will be able to come in and see us at some time. Thank you for remembering me in your prayers. I am sure I need them very much. Again thanking you for your letter, I am, with every good wish,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC:LM
B5. 6/20/43 Mr. [3141]‘s letter to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
In consonance with your letter of June 7th ult., I am calling your attention to the reading you have promised me on July 30th at the hour of 10.30 to 11.30 A.M. (E.W.T.).
My house number is … Street - it is also known as … of …, now the fourth ward of …
I think I wrote you of the nerve on the right side of my face, that passes from in front of the ear, down to the center of the chin. How it developed a case of “tic douloureux” two years ago. How the doctors gave me shots to stop the paroxysms.
The paroxysms abated but there developed an exudation from the nerve (so the doctors contend) a moisture that the blood refuses to carry away, as a result the moisture seeks the easiest way out - which is the lower lip.
And so, for two years I have been troubled with an open sore, that is for the greater part of the time - the lip once in a long time healing and then falling back into developing an open spot. There had never been the least trouble as to infection or germs, the open spot or spots being in a healthful state although at times very painful.
Just now the sore spot has again closed as it did last February when it remained healed for some weeks and then broke open. The doctor tells me that I did wrong because I stopped taking the Vitamin B shots which I had been receiving into my veins.
After coming north from Florida in May I again took the Vitamin B shots also fluid Vitamin B complex medicine and the lip is almost normal. Now I am wondering shall I continue the treatment which is being administered: Namely the medicine after each meal and the shot into the system once a week.
Or is there a better procedure? And what of my physical condition in general?
I also have trouble with my right knee. Due to an injury of twelve years ago, it gets no sinovial [synovial?] fluid - anyway that is my opinion and unless I frequently manipulate it something gets out of place and presses on a nerve - at any rate that is what I think happens because of the pain that develops.
I really do not see how anything can be done about the knee
- yet - who knows?
I shall be en rapport with you at the appointed hour - am looking forward to it full of hope. Believe me.
Very Sincerely, [3141]
I presume that the questions should be something like a) Is the doctor’s diagnosis correct? If so, Why is the nerve inflamed? b) If the primary cause is deficiency in vitamin B, why is this manifest only in that one nerve? c) Is the treatment now being administered the correct treatment? if not what do you advise?
Can anything be done about my injured right knee?
Of late I notice at bed time that my legs from the ANKLE TO THE CALF are somewhat swelled - the left one more so than the right one?
What is the cause and what is the remedy?
I have a small rupture on the right side well down by the pubic bone; am wearing a truss and am not having any trouble but it should be taken into consideration I presume, in connection with a general diagnosis of my physical condition.
As to diet, I live very simply and am in fine fettle generally until cold weather arrives and with that come bronchial attacks.
What should I do to avoid these latter - they are at times acute and dangerous - I almost passed into the beyond in December of 1941. [3141]
