% … Photo Time of Reading Shop, Inc., 11:25 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, N.Y. (Body & enquiring mind, who desires counsel & guidance that will enable him to clarify the position in which he finds himself. You will ans. the ques. he has submitted.)
-
EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [315], and those conditions mentally and materially that disturb the body at the present time.
-
In considering the circumstances and the environs, while there is MENTALLY little satisfaction in the present surroundings from the material point of view, yet when all general circumstances are considered would it not be more in keeping with general conditions and with that which will enable the body to be led THROUGH the associations (though they be unsatisfactory in many respects) to the better conditions for the body? so fitting the body, mentally and materially, in many ways to meet those conditions that will arise in the experience of the body?
-
Also, in this same connection, we would advise that there be the application and examination taken by the body for such work in connection with the general work needed by Government, in many of its varied branches of work as in connection and association with the photographic work. This will of itself soon lead to those associations that may be made most satisfactory for the body. Also those surroundings that enable the body to meet many of those conditions that are being builded as mental and material outlooks for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Am I doing the work that I was intended to do? (A) If it is carried on to the greater extent in the broader fields, it would be.
-
(Q) Should I continue? (A) In the line and in the manner as suggested, we would continue; for by the early Spring there should be opportunities for changes in a general direction that would bring much more satisfactory conditions for the body.
-
(Q) Why do I seem to be in a kind of upset, not knowing whether I should quit my job or not? (A) As described, the general surroundings and the outlook; but with the added impetus that should come from these approaches, and these activities necessary for the proper approach, these should bring greater satisfaction mentally, and - eventually - materially.
-
(Q) Is there any other advice that will be of benefit to me at this time, as to my physical, mental or material welfare? (A) These we would follow in these general directions that we have outlined. These should lead to the opening up of greater incentives for the line of work in which the body is engaged, and into those fields of operation that would make for a much broader vision of circumstances and conditions, as well as a more clarifying in the remuneration and returns from such activities.

We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/6/33 He requested a Physical Rdg. [See 315-2 on 4/20/33], saying:
“Relative to my last rdg., nothing as yet. Looked into matter of government position but the field seems to be full at the present time.
“Also wish to state that if I can in any way help anyone who is desirous of getting help, for the betterment of the Association, I am glad to do so. Success in the furtherance of this wonderful work.”
R2. 4/25/33 EC’s letter: “Having been a photographer myself, I feel quite a bond of sympathy with you and your undertaking. I have always felt that life and our experiences might be most beautifully illustrated in photography. There’s hardly a phase that we may not use some portion of either the very activity or the chemistry of photography to illustrate Life itself.”
R3. 7/31/33 He reported on his Physical Rdg. 315-2, adding:
Relative to my reading 315-1 wish to say have been unsuccessful that is you suggest that I try in broader fields in general work needed by Government I have followed the “Chief Newspaper” from time to time but can’t seem to get the proper enlightenment at the same time I am very anxious to study and qualify when the opportunity arises. Where can I make application? What school or institution should I go to better myself? Or perhaps you could prepare a course so that I get a good hold of myself.
R4. 8/9/33 EC’s letter:
As you know, no doubt, through the Civil Service there is the appointment of official photographers for the Government. This goes into many different types of work of this kind. Some, of course, include only copy work; others general field activity; others aerial photography. But, if you will write to the Civil Service Department, they will send you (free) the application for enrollment in this field of activity, and also tell you when the examinations are held for this particular field. Then, after you have had your examination it may be almost immediately - or it may be in a few weeks - you would receive your appointment, in whatever field you have applied for active service. I know this by my own experience several years ago. I took this examination, and it was about three months later that I had my first call into service.
