This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3153], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by A. M. Godfrey, also Mr. McNeil, through Mr. F. S. Royster, Jr., for whom he works.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3153].

3. As we find, there are conditions that disturb the better physical functioning of this body. These are of an unusual nature, as these affect directly the nervous systems - from there having grown superfluous cartilage in the segments along the spine where there are the cushions or the cartilage forces between segments.

4. In the pressures upon the sympathetic system these cause acute pains in locomotion and in the areas below, principally, though at times above, - in the nature of the growths on each of these. We find these in the 7th and 8th dorsal, and in the 10th and 11th dorsal. Thus the effect is more to the sciatic center on the right side, though these “burrs” are upon the left side.

5. These as we find may be materially aided. It will require time, it will require patience, it will require persistence on the part of the body.

6. To be sure, there has been such a period of these that the structural portions of the body have - in a manner - become distorted.

7. To bring ease to the body, when there are the acute spells - which come from the pressures (the atmospheric pressure has much to do with the body - when there is a great deal of dampness it causes acute pain - if there’s too dry or too hot, this may cause the pain - just the opposite, you see), - when there is the acute pain, use - under the direction of a physician - the compound in the tincture made into a drug from the poppy, combined with that which is very penetrating; that is:

8. Obtain a physician’s prescription for this compound to be used only externally, - three parts Tincture of Laudanum and one part Aconite. Half an ounce, or an ounce, will be more than sufficient. This would be painted on, and then apply wet heat - as from a towel wrung out of hot water - which will cause these properties to be driven in. Use this wherever the pain is, you see, because this changes. The pain is usually in the nerve tension along the thigh or limb, but at other periods it will be close to the spine, and in the lower portion of the back. Apply this compound to relieve the acute pain.

9. Of course, take the sedatives when necessary, but keep away from them as much as practical. Continue with the morphia product being used, you see, when necessary, but keep as far away from this as possible.

10. Twice a week use these:

11. On Tuesdays use the Ultra-Violet Ray, the Mercury Quartz Light, with the green glass projected between this and the body; using it for a minute or a minute and a half, not longer, over affected area - that is, over the spine.

12. On Tuesdays use the Infra-Red; this for at least forty to sixty minutes.

13. Each of these should be followed with a GENTLE oil rub, using ONLY Peanut Oil. Massage this gently into the spine, from the area between the shoulders to the end of the spine - just what the body will absorb.

14. These treatments may be given by anyone in sympathy with the condition. The light treatments may be obtained by renting the machines and giving them at home. Don’t overdo it, however, nor underdo it!

15. The Mercury Hand Lamp (the Ultra-Violet) and also the Infra-Red may be rented, from Powers & Anderson.

16. Do these, and when the conditions have been builded so that there is the reaction again in the body for the effects to be eliminated and normalcy established in structural portions, especially the nerve centers in areas indicated, we would give further instructions.

17. Do these and we will find we will bring bettered conditions for this body.

19. (Q) Should I continue wearing the heavy corset? (A) As we find, after a month or six weeks this may be gradually left off.

20. (Q) Is it harmful to drive a car? (A) It’s a strain on the body, but that much exercise is really good, IF the body can stand it. But don’t take the exercise and then have to use the opiate to ease the pain resulting from it!

Do these things, and in four to six months we would give further instructions.

Dear Mr. Cayce.

I hope you are feeling fine these days sorry that I can’t get down to the Tuesday Nights meetings. Mr. Cayce I am writing this letter to you about a Mr. [3153] that lives in … He is a very close friend to two of my Sisters and he has been to several Doctors and Hospitals and they can’t seem to do him any good. I had a long talk with him today about you and your work. He said that he called you up and you told him that it would be some time in January before he could get a reading. I told him that to come down to the Beach and see you and explain his condition to you that you would work out some plan to help him out. As he seems to need your help so much I feel like he will carry out the readings. When he comes to see you any favor you can do for him I will certainly appreciate it. Because if he gets a reading and gets well my family will not think that I am altogether off. Thanking you for same. With Love

Dear Mr. Godfrey:

Thank you for yours of the fifth. I will be very glad to see Mr. [3153] if he comes down, and I hope that we can arrange to work in an appointment for him sometime within the next two or three months. I don’t know if I can promise anyone anything any sooner, but you know I’ll be glad to do what I can. Thank you for your interest and assuring you that we miss you a great deal at the meeting.

B3. 8/14/43 Verbal Report:

Serious operation in ‘38 & ‘39 - malignant growth removed from rectum - in fact, whole rectum was removed - now using a false rectum - put on diet not to include any pod vegetables, etc., nothing to produce gas, etc. Operation was successful

• got along fine. Since that have had examinations on 5 different occasions, pictures taken, etc., and everything seems to be okay - claim it has positively been cured, caught it in time. In last Jan. had examination at Johns Hopkins by cancer specialist who tells me there’s nothing to worry about
• bones are normal.

Operated on in Dec. 1942 - after having suffered with what they call sciatica for 2 yrs. Removed disc from the 4th vertebra - claim the disc was crushed - pictures showed sciatic nerve inflamed and sick because of the crushed disc, that acted as a bumper on the nerves and hadn’t been giving protection for years - don’t know when it happened - getting worse all the time.

No better after the operation - getting now so can’t walk straight, possibly due to favoring that side because of the pain. The trouble seems to be in right hip and leg, and when it gets bad finally goes to the spine.

Before removing the disc, had osteopathic treatments from Dr. Irvine and chiropractic from Dr. Bybee.

Have had all kinds of treatments - inoculation with typhoid serum, snake venom, shots of salycilate of soda and iodine - been taking, last, solution of Potassium Iodide. Just back from Hot Springs - Baths - no good.

1. Should I continue the morphia product for relief, or would something else be better? (Am taking 3 to 6 times a day a prescription of four ingredients, the chief of which is Panapan? - a morphia product.)
2. Should I continue wearing the heavy corset?
3. Is it harmful to drive a car?
