This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Ass”n, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the mother - […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [2455].

At the home of Time of Reading her grandparents, 3:45 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ohio.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes - Yes, we have the body here, [3167].

3. Now as we find, these are rather acute conditions. And, unless there is the elimination of the oils and fats from the body’s diet, and of the irritations to the body, we may have these turning to more acute disturbances.

4. For, the unbalancing of the chemical forces in the body is causing the infectious forces or poisons - that should be eliminated through the alimentary canal, or through the respiratory system - to form in pockets of lymph and pus under the skin, or between the outer and the inner covering of the skin. These are only lymph pockets, as yet. If they become of a more infectious nature, though, the condition will be hard to combat.

5. However, we find that these may be eliminated from the body, if these applications will be made:

6. Gather a pint (in measure) of Plantain, only using the fresh or tender leaves. Cut this in strips or pieces. Add an equal quantity of sweet cream that rises on milk. Cook this together - not too hot a fire. Let this come almost to a boil. Then use this as the lotion to apply to the accumulations, or boils. This will eliminate them.

7. When this mixture is cooked together, do not strain it, but rather apply the pieces of Plantain with the cream when it is put on, see?

8. Also we would prepare these properties to be taken internally:

Sulphur…1 level tablespoonful, Rochelle Salts…1 level tablespoonful, Cream of Tartar…1 level tablespoonful.

Mix these thoroughly, thoroughly.

9. Each day give a level teaspoonful in a glass of water. It is not a very good dose, but the body will take it if it is properly given.

10. In the matter of the diet, - give rather liquids and semi-liquid foods. Never any fried foods, until all of these conditions are entirely eliminated from the body. Soups may be made of fowl and vegetables; cereals and milk; potatoes; all of these made rather into soups, and these should be thick and heavy, of course.

11. Do these, being persistent and consistent, and we will ELIMINATE these from the system.

12. Keep the body quiet. This doesn’t mean it should stay in bed, but in the open - but not too active.

13. Ready for questions.

14. (Q) What really started the abscesses? (A) As just given, the unbalancing of the chemical forces in the body, lack of coordination of eliminations from the system.

If the osteopathic or chiropractic treatments are given the body, a little later, these will help.

15. (Q) Should the ultra-violet ray treatments be continued? (A) These don’t hurt - they are not doing any good, but if you want to keep on giving them, it won’t hurt!

16. (Q) How or in what way can she be made to sleep better? (A) She will sleep better if you’ll just keep her away from some of these foods you have been giving her, and begin to apply the lotion as outlined.

17. (Q) Are any of the vital organs, such as heart, kidneys, etc., in any way affected from the administering of ether, and other drugs, hypodermics? (A) Not as yet. Of course, these conditions are a drain on the kidneys, for these are a part of the channels through which eliminations are carried, as are - of course - the liver and the lungs. But with these applications, and with the altering of the chemical forces of the system, and then the corrections osteopathically so that there is the proper coordination of the nerve forces and the circulation, these should be eliminated.

But if conditions continue as they are, you are going to have sarcomas!

18. (Q) What can be done to remove the scars from the abscesses that have been lanced? (A) Can’t pull out nail holes! Camphorated Oil will aid same, of course, more than anything else, but we cannot remove nail holes. May pull out the nails, but we can’t pull out the holes!

19. (Q) Does the condition in the area of the rectum warrant an operation? (A) Not unless there are greater distresses than indicated in the present. But if we will use these things as soon as they may be prepared, we will alleviate these disturbances.

20. (Q) Should butter be eliminated from the diet? (A) Let this be the only seasoning in the soups or in the food prepared, but don’t eat butter - don’t eat it even on bread. This may be very well as the seasoning, but keep away from these fats of any nature.

R1. 3/23/44 Mother’s letter to EC:

“I want to tell you about [3167]. You gave a reading for her in August, 1943.

“The suggestions given in the reading have worked out fine. In ten days time there was a definite improvement. She went from October to January without any abscesses at all. At Christmas time, had some holiday fare that did not agree with her and had two small abscesses. We gave her the sulphur compound at once. Luckily (even though the ground was frozen) my husband found plantain leaves out near a shed - made a poultice and in two days the abscesses drained and she hasn’t had any since.

“I still give her the sulphur and keep her on the diet. If I don’t, I know she’ll get sick again.

“If you don’t mind, I’d like to tell you about these abscesses on [3167]‘s hip on posterior [?] hip.

“In February, 1943 she first started getting these about as big as a goose egg. She was given ether, and this first one lanced and kept in the hospital five days for observation. No results. Kept right on having them. We had her to a skin specialist, rectal specialist, a surgeon for bowel, diseases, and three other medical doctors. ALL of them gave a diagnosis of tender skin, called them multiple BOILS even though they had no core. Finally, our own family doctor said he didn’t know what it was. Never had seen anything like it before.

“The ONLY thing that has ever helped her was the reading you gave for her. I have done everything suggested and intend to keep right on doing so.

“There is one question I’d like answered. I found that the only way I could get her to take the compound was by mixing one teaspoonful with powdered sugar. Do you think that hurts? Or makes any difference?

“I enjoy your monthly bulletins very much. I hope to write again…”

“P.S. Just wanted to tell you this. The plantain leaves and cream were the only thing ever tried or used on [3167] that made these abscesses drain.

“Most of them had to be lanced which was painful. “The other things tried on her abscesses to make them drain and didn’t work were:

1. Hot Epsom Salts
2. Flaxseed
3. Antiphlogistine
4. Hot water compresses

“She also had eight ‘shots’ to kill GERMS inside her that make boils on people. These never did any good either.

“I hope this will be suitable and answer all questions anyone might like to know if they ever had anything like [3167] did.”

R2. 3/27/44 EC’s letter to [3167]‘s mother:

“I have your letter of the 23rd.

“Want to thank you very, very much for your report. I am glad and happy for you and I know [3167] feels a lot better about it all. Give all the praise to the Divine forces that are within each of us.

“Be sure you keep up the suggestions now, especially as to diet. That will be the most important thing, and of course every once in a while, say once a month for several months, I would give her two or three doses of the compound. No, I am very sure it is not harmful to mix it with sugar, provided she doesn’t get too much sugar in the other things she eats.

“Do let us hear from you from time to time, and with every good wish, I remain…”

Physicians’ Diagnosis and Treatment: Said first abscess was from a scratch. Lanced abscesses - gave directions to ward off boils. Did no good. Used a salve, also Ultra Violet Treatments. NO HELP.

Reading’s Recommendations:

1. Take 1 tablespoon sulphur, rochelle salts, cream of tartar (mixed). 1 TSP each day mixed.
2. Give above mixture off & on for a long period, body needed minerals.
3. Semi-liquid Vegetable diet, no fats of any kind.
4. Apply plantain leaf & cream - heated to abscesses & boils.

R4. 2/12/68 Mother’s letter; requesting a copy of the reading: “[3167] passed on in ‘59 as a result of an auto accident. I have had phone calls about the treatment for abscesses and boils she had as a baby… Having a copy of the reading will aid me in helping others.”

B2. 7/9/43 Letter from Mother: “She has been sick off and on since February, one abscess right after another. Six doctors have seen her, prescribed for her, and nothing seems to help. Now this doctor we are going to now says he wants to find out if these things are caused by external or internal conditions. She is now getting ultra-violet ray - if after eight of these she gets any more abscesses, then it is caused internally - etc. - I’m beginning to feel that these doctors are just experimenting with her.”

B3. 8/17/43 Letter: “Sunday, she developed another ‘spot’ or ‘bump’. I took her to the doctor. He ‘nicked’ and drained the place. Then on the first scar there has been for a long time a white spot in the middle - he cut it and a thing came out like a core. I sure hope the reading can tell us the cause and cure of this mess of trouble.”
