This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3169], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [3189].

Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Nebraska.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3169].

3. There is a great deal of disturbance in the physical forces of the body, that causes quite an aggravation to the body. Yet as we find, if there would be a change in attitude of the body toward life and its relationships to things around it, we might find a great deal of difference.

4. To be sure, these are pathological conditions; and, of course, there can oft be made a great deal of excuse for anyone suffering with intense headaches; especially those as here - that involve the 5th nerve; or as they become what are called migraine headaches.

5. We find that these areas primarily form disturbances in the cerebrospinal system, that - through a long period of time - have builded up those conditions which, with any aggravation to the imaginative or sympathetic nervous system, discharge, as it were, superabundance of energies that cause the pressures on the side and through portions of the temple and the head nerves themselves.

6. Hence the correct mental and spiritual attitude, as has been suggested, would be most necessary if we were to rid the body of these disturbances.

7. Not merely saying “I would be patient, I would be kind, I would show kindness, brotherly love and patience,” but BEING such in the relationships to every form of condition that arises, or with every individual, in the experience of the body.

8. We would also use mechanical means, osteopathically administered; in attempting to stimulate any center by a gentle relaxing of the centers especially where there are the greater connections between sympathetic and cerebrospinal systems; as in the coccyx area, 4th lumbar, 9th, 10th and 11th dorsal, brachial centers 1st, 2nd and 4th dorsal - and throughout the cervical area RELAX the body.

9. We would give those at least twice a week.

10. Soon after each osteopathic treatment is given relax the body thoroughly with the use of the Radio-Active Appliance. When this is attached, let this be used by the body as its period of meditation and prayer. These should not be merely words but experienced within self, experience them to DO them!

11. FATHER, GOD! HERE AM I, SEEKING TO KNOW THY WAY WITH ME, AND HOW I - AS THY SERVANT - MAY DO AND BE THAT THOU WOULD HAVE ME BE. USE ME, OH, GOD, AS THY SERVANT, AS THY OWN CHILD. FOR, I SEEK AND CLAIM THE RELATIONSHIP PROMISED IN JESUS, THE CHRIST.

12. And do it! Not merely by the repeating of these words, but analyze thy life. And we will find that the use of every form of those things that have been helpful will change, and not be as necessary in the body.

13. When it is necessary to use the injections for the headaches, for the first few months, do so. They are not habit forming unless the body wholly, solely, depends on same.

14. The lenses for the eyes would be well to keep when necessary to use the eyes the more.

15. Ready for questions.

16. (Q) What is suggested for difficulty with eliminations? (A) Just use those things indicated and add to the diet more fresh fruits and fresh vegetables whenever practical and possible.

To be sure, occasionally it will be well to use a laxative; not so much a cathartic as a laxative. But with the corrections, these should become less and less necessary for the body.

17. We are through with this reading.

R2. 8/27/43 Employer, Mr. [3189]‘s letter:

Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Please refer to your reading of August 21st concerning [3169], …, Nebraska, second paragraph [3169-1, Par. 3]:

“If there would be a change in attitude of the body toward life and its relationships to things around it, we might find a great deal of difference.”

If possible, please have your invisible helpers tell us what they think is wrong with Mrs. [3169]’ attitude toward life, and its relationships to things around the body.

The next paragraph is cryptic and puzzling:

“To be sure, these are pathological conditions; and, of course, there can oft be made a great deal of excuse for anyone suffering with intense headaches;”

This would indicate that the patient is found to be subject to morbid reactions to life. As a matter of fact, she is a model of patience, with a very wholesome attitude toward life and its vicissitudes.

If the paragraph at the beginning of the second page [3169-1, Par. 6] had stated that the acting forces recognized in Mrs. [3169]‘s life an exceptional example of the practice of “not merely saying ‘I would be patient, I would be kind, I would show kindness, brotherly love and patience’, but BEING such in the relationships to every form of condition that arises, or with every individual, in the experience of the body” it would have been entirely in accord with the facts concerning her attitude toward life.

Please understand that I am not writing this letter in a spirit of controversy, but for further enlightenment concerning this interesting subject. Mrs. [3169] has “suffered many things of many physicians” on account of these unyielding, periodic headaches and her friends here are looking to this experiment as the measure which will bring her the long-sought relief. Your work has our most sympathetic interest.

R3. 9/1/43 EC’s letter to Mr. [3189]:

Mr. [3189] …, Nebraska

Dear Mr. [3189]:-

Thank you for yours of the 27th. I appreciate your writing me regarding Mrs. [3169]. Of course, she can better analyze this than anyone else. If it creates in her mind, because of what was said, something of a resentment and desire not to take what was suggested, the reading can do her no good, but if it answers to something within her and she wishes to undertake it, I feel sure she will get a result. Of course, at this distance, and without knowing the character, it is impossible for me to judge and though you may have known her all the while, I feel sure that what is given in the scripture is very correct. “My spirit beareth witness with your spirit” and if this isn’t true, we are very, very wrong in any of our conclusions about the Book. Of course, our whole purpose is to help. We don’t want to have a controversy nor have any hard feelings. We do like to know, however, just what the individual, as well as those about the individual, thinks or feels about the information that is obtained from time to time.

1. What causes my migraine headache, and what can be done to eliminate it? (There seem to be many reasons for migraine headache but so far we have not found the one causing those I have. Perhaps you can help us.)

2. Is the continued use of Gynergen (ergatamine tartrate) by hypodermic harmful? (It relieves the migraine headache, but does not stop the next one… I have been taking it for about 5 yrs., can see no ill results, yet.

3. Has the difficulty with aneseikonia (unequal vision) been helped by the extra lens I have been wearing? (It is heavy and uncomfortable, but I will wear it if it is essential. I am not wearing it this week.)

4. What is suggested for difficulty with elimination? (Cathartics always bring a migraine headache, as does, usually, an enema. Those things are not getting at the root of the difficulty.)
