This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of August, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3170], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading 11:00 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Maryland.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
As we find there are many disturbances which if allowed to continue may become very detrimental to the better physical forces of the body. For these, as we find, are tendencies. While the body meets the emergencies at times, it is continuing - as it were - to sort of lose ground in one direction or another.
-
The basis of the trouble is auto-intoxication, or the lack of the proper balance in the chemical forces of the body. Thus the liver and the gall duct area become involved and too much of fats of one nature or another produce acidity.
-
Then this acidity, with the poor circulation, attacks such as the gums, the throat, the tissue through the abdominal area and in joints and locomotory centers of the body.
-
These are more arthritic than rheumatic; though they might be called arthritic-rheumatic effects.
-
For, with the unbalancing of the conditions, and toxic forces, and the attempts of the kidneys to meet the conditions of the body, uric acid is also caused.
-
Thus we find many of the central nervous forces and the organs of the central nervous system are involved but more sympathetically in the present than organically.
-
These, we find, should be the character of the administrations:
-
We would have treatments by a good hydrotherapist, which would include a very low form of electrical treatments, as the massages are gradually increased. These should not be taken too often, but would be as a stimulation to the central nervous system as the corrections are made and the eliminations are established.
-
The hydrotherapy should include mild sweats, the needle showers, sitz baths, and rubs in pine oil baths. Not all at once but vary these.
-
And then about every ten days or two weeks, do have the low electrical forces of the sinusoidal; this not too strong but attached to aid in draining the gall duct, and to stimulate that activity from the nerves in the cerebrospinal system to those in the liver and gall duct area.
-
Do use such as IPSAB to purify the gums, this will stimulate circulation. Use this at least once a day. Moisten the finger with the IPSAB and massage the gums, top and bottom, inside and outside, then rinse the mouth once with same; not a great quantity - just a small quantity will be sufficient.
-
We will find that these will change the whole outlook of the body.
-
Do use Glyco-Thymoline as an intestinal antiseptic; three to five drops in a glass of water once a day. Don’t take this one day and then skip it for several, but take it every day for at least five days. Then leave off for five days, then take it again for five days. And this should by that time have cleared the system.
-
During the first week’s treatments, do have a high colonic irrigation. This should aid in relieving the body of those tendencies for the rash which occurs in many portions of the body from time to time. As will be seen this is more severe on the patches of the lymph centers; thus indicating a circulation disturbed between sympathetic and cerebrospinal systems.
-
In the diet, beware of acid-producing combinations.
-
Do have daily some form of raw fresh vegetables.
-
Do not have citrus fruit juices at the same meal with dry or cooked cereals. Alternate these from one day to the next.
-
Do not take too much fats of any nature.
-
Fish, fowl, and lamb may be taken in moderation but rarely, if ever, fried. These may be more easily assimilated by the body if they are broiled, boiled or baked.
-
Do these.
-
If it is necessary to take a laxative, we find that Milk of Magnesia would be preferable for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Aching feet after prolonged walking or standing? (A) These are from the toxic forces, and with the forms of baths indicated we will find much improvement from these.
-
(Q) [By GC] Is the bottle of Ipsab I hold in my hand compounded correctly, or alright to send out?* (A) This will do to use. There should be more care in the quantity of the calcium that is put in. But this will do.
-
(Q) [By GC] Is there too much or too little in this? (A) Too little in this.
-
We are through with this reading.
Two copies to self (one for hydrotherapist - Please let us have the name and address of the one you choose. Some of our Members have recommended a place in the Raleigh Hotel, Washington, D.C.) Copy to Ass’n file ” ” Miss Goodall for indexing
- [7/13/77 GD’s note: The last two Questions and Answers in re Ipsab were left out of the original reading sent to Mrs. [3170], because they were not submitted by her but by Mr. A. M. Godfrey who had just made up a batch of the Ipsab based on formula given him 2/14/42 in 1800-34. He left a sample with Mrs. Cayce so that she could ask about it in the next reading that recommended Ipsab, which happened to be 3170-1.]
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/19/44 [3170]‘s letter to EC: ”…Since my Reading of last August, I have followed your advice for the hydrotherapy and electrotherapy treatments; also your other recommendations.
“It seems to me that I have improved considerably, but there is still pain on occasion in my hand, especially in bad weather.
“As to the treatment for my gums, I sent for a bottle of Ipsab (
1.00 for one ounce) and used it, but due to its exorbitant price, I don't feel that I'm able to continue its use. The bottle pictured on the circular I received certainly seemed to contain more than one ounce. I do feel that1.00 is a little too much for a product whose main ingredient seems to be sea water.“At present, I feel that I should like a Check-up reading in order that I may know how much I’ve improved and if the treatments I’m getting are adequate. Please let me hear from you in this regard, as to date, etc…”
R2. 6/14/44 [3170]‘s letter to EC: ”…A number of months ago, I wrote you in regard to a Check-up reading, giving you details as to my progress, etc.
“So far, however, I have had no reply whatever to my letter and as I’m holding up my check-up examination at the Washington Sanitarium, where I have been getting treatments, I would appreciate hearing from you at your early convenience.
“May I also, take this opportunity to thank you for your suggestions for treatment for my arthritic condition, which certainly has improved and, also, to wish you good success with the coming convention…”
R3. 9/2/44 [3170]‘s letter to EC: ”…Enclosed you will find a check in the amount of $10.00 to cover a check-up to be given on Saturday, September 23rd, 1944, from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Eastern War Time.
“I shall be at this address while the Reading is being given.
“In accordance with your Reading of August 21st, 1943, I went to the Washington Sanitarium, where I was given a physical examination and the following treatment was recommended: Three high colonic irrigations; Russian sweat baths and electrotherapy treatments; also, massages in conjunction with the sweat baths. Ertron pills were also recommended, to be taken three times a day. This was later reduced to two a day.
“The Sanitarium did not prescribe electrical treatments for the sinusoidal as indicated in your Reading, so I arranged with an outside electrotherapist to administer these.
“In checking back with my letter of July 12th, 1943, describing my condition at the time of seeking the first Reading, I find the following: 1. Aching feet after prolonged walking or standing have improved greatly. 2. Receding gums have improved. 3. The long-standing skin eruption is still there. 4. Since undertaking the treatments, I have had no pains in wrists, joints of toes, thighs or body in general; but the pains in joints of fingers persist, the thumbs, particularly the one on the left hand giving trouble, though the swelling has subsided.
“At this time I am particularly interested in finding out what food or other type of allergy is causing the rash on the neck; also whether I should continue the treatments as outlined for the other symptoms and at what intervals…”
R4. 10/5/44 [3170]‘s letter to GD: ”…The receipt of your form letter of October 2, 1944, advising me that you were unable to get my Check-Physical reading on September 23rd, astonished me, both in itself and by virtue of the manner in which this matter has been handled.
“Mr. Cayce’s illness is something which can readily be understood. However, it certainly does not seem too much to expect in a case like this that you advise people before their Reading is to take place, by telegram if necessary. I waited a long time for this Reading, made special arrangements to be here and postponed resuming treatments at the hospital awaiting the outcome. Then, to receive, instead of the Reading, a mimeographed notice in which you arbitrarily postpone the Reading almost a full year, was indeed a disappointment.
“As Mr. Cayce himself has frequently pointed out, each case is different. Hence, I would hesitate to accept as being authentic, any medical advice not offered by a qualified physician or by Mr. Cayce operating under the special conditions prevailing during his readings.
“The fact that I refrained from describing my condition in dramatic fashion does not mean that I can be made to wait an entire year. I would therefore urgently suggest that you fix an earlier date and that you return the amount of $10.00 paid for this Reading. This will be sent to you again previous to the date set for the Reading…”
R5. GD’s note: On 12/10/47 the Abstract of 59 cases of Arthritis, prepared by Dr. Henry George III, was published and announced. A notice was sent to all those whose cases were included in the Abstract. This is what Mrs. [3170] is referring to in the letter below.
R6. 12/30/47 [3170]‘s letter: ”…With regard to your form letter of December 10th, I would appreciate receiving a copy of ABSTRACT NO. 4 on Arthritis.
“As for having a copy sent to my physician, this would be fine, if I would be able to find one who would be in sympathy with the work of Mr. Cayce.
“Could you perhaps refer me to such a person either here in Washington (of which … is a suburb) or in nearby Maryland, i.e. Baltimore. I would certainly like to find such a person…”
R7. 1/10/48 HLC’s letter to [3170]: ”…We are in receipt of your note of December 30th requesting a copy of our abstract on arthritis. This is being mailed to you today.
“I have just finished going over your physical reading which was given by my father on August of 1943. We would be very glad to have a report from you bringing your case history up-to-date for our files.
“I would like to recommend three physicians, any of whom I believe would be interested in going over your Reading with you and following the suggestions in it which seem pertinent to your present condition.
“Dr. Lulu Irene Waters [D.O.], 1707 Columbia Road, Washington, D.C.; Dr. F. Curtis Hudgins [D.O.], 2895 S. Abdgn. Fairlington, Alexandria, Virginia; Dr. Frank B. Tompkins [D.O.], Baltimore Life Bldg., Baltimore 1, Md.
“If you are able to get in touch with any of these physicians, I would appreciate hearing from you again. Please advise us if we may be of further assistance.
“I hope the next time I am in Washington, I will have the opportunity of meeting and talking with you personally…”
R8. 9/16/67 Letter from [3170]: ”…On p. 179 of Jess Stearn’s book on Edgar Cayce, there is mention of a famous ‘black book’ for anyone who wants it. Kindly let me know how I can get this book and the price, as I would very much like to have a copy. I had a Reading in August, 1943…”
