This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, this 7th day of September, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3199], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Virginia.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3199].

3. As we find, there are the complications of disturbance; those that are a continued reaction from disturbances in the functioning of the organs of the body, in the supplying of nutriments through the incoordination established between the sympathetic nervous system (or lymph supply) and the cerebrospinal system, and those that arise from other disturbances that have been the result of the wasting of supply of energies to centers in the locomotion of the body.

4. These, then, are the conditions to be met. While in the main these are understood by those making administrations, as to the sources of these disorders and the infection caused - that wastes away the body-energies, causing the inability of the lymph and the emunctory activities to coordinate, - we find that these are those debilitating influences in the body.

5. Thus, those administrations being made are in keeping with the disorders. But we would find greater response from these, and greater possibilities for response, if these were added in certain centers to become more stimulating, more helpful, more resuscitating; so that more activity may be better produced in the activities of the body and in the use of self, and for gaining strength to the body.

6. For, there are those centers in the frontal portion of the body, as well as all along the spinal column where sympathetic and cerebrospinal centers coordinate, that control or govern the sympathetic reactions to organs of the sensory system, as well as the emotions of the body - and these in their turn have their effect upon the spleen, the mind, and the activities in reflexes through the body. These are controlled in the main by the sympathetic nervous system.

7. The sympathetic reactions and the disturbance in the functioning, - as in the heart’s activity as associated with the assimilating forces and the better actions in the liver, spleen and gall duct area, - will all respond if there are those stimulations made to such patches or centers in the frontal area as well as along the spine itself.

8. Hence we would have those mechanical (osteopathic) adjustments or reactions that will aid the body in this respect.

9. It would also be well to use the Radio-Active Appliance to coordinate the circulation through the body, attaching this in the normal manner; right wrist, left ankle, left wrist, right ankle, etc. These are the manners in which the greater effect may be brought to better the conditions through the body.

10. In the matter of the diet, - do add as soon as practical the Jerusalem artichoke twice each week; this cooked, however, in its own juices - as in Patapar Paper. This will aid in bringing a better heart activity as well as the spleen’s reaction to the digestive forces as stimulated from time to time.

11. If these are done, we should find much better conditions for this body of [3199].

14. (Q) What is the present seat or location of the difficulty? (A) As indicated, it is in the lymph circulation.

15. (Q) Can this condition be completely cured? (A) Can be helped.

16. (Q) How long a time will be required? (A) How long is it until tomorrow? This depends upon the reaction of the body to administrations, as well as the desires created in the cellular forces of the body-cycle. For, it depends much upon outside influences rather than upon anything that may enable the time to be given definitely as one month, two months or three months.

17. (Q) Actual date of onset, irrespective of when I first noticed it? (A) This condition began with the unbalancing of the chemical forces in the body, so that with the progress of these disturbing factors the condition became a part of the body some years ago.

18. (Q) Will it be necessary for further information through a Check rdg.? (A) Depends upon what is the desire of the body!

But if there is the stimulation of the centers indicated, by mechanical (osteopathic) means, we would get a better flow. And the better flow of that assimilated will stimulate the abilities of the body in the glandular forces as well as those to aid locomotion in a much better reaction.

Dear Mr. Cayce:-

You may be surprised to know that I am located in Washington, where I have been in practice for a number of years. I was at Cayce Hospital at the Beach, and gave Dr. House and yourself, a few treatments at one time, in fact, I left an instrument with you in 1930, which I asked Dr. Carl S. Frischkorn of Norfolk, to get, if possible, but he said that he could never locate it, but my special reason for writing you is that [3199] …, Virginia, has been under my professional care for some time, and in response to your recent letter to him, I am undertaking treatment according to your recommendation, and would appreciate any further information you may have concerning his case.

I saw the fine literature in Coronet and have come across your book, as well as, your pathway on several occasions since I left Virginia a number of years ago.

I will appreciate any information concerning Mr. [3199]‘s case, I remain

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I shall refrain from giving personal history except to state that since 1929 I progressed from several months in bed (the best medical men said I had not more than six months to live) through a period of wheel chair, crutches, and for the past ten years I have been forced to walk with canes. The cause nor cure no one has been able to discover.

A few weeks ago I read the “Song Of Bernadette”, while my wife was trying to interest me in “There was a River”. My wife works in … store as assistant buyer in the book department. For some time now she tells me of the demand for Mr. Sugrue’s book, and that almost daily there are customers who call for the book stating that they have been helped or cured by you. I finished your history last evening, and am intensely interested in your work.

To go back a few days with my story, my wife called me at the office several days ago and said she had just had a nice visit with the wife of the author of “There was a River”, and that her husband was in Washington. I talked with Mr. Sugrue last night by phone for quite some time - I regret I shall not have the opportunity to meet him personally as he leaves for Florida tomorrow. Mr. Sugrue gave the names of several people in the vicinity who have been your patients - I shall be very glad to them, especially Mrs. Louis Poss in Alexandria, who lives but a few miles from my home. I might state in this connection, however, that such meetings are not necessary to convince myself that I want a reading. I firmly believe in the powers of God - I am not a member of any church but have proven to myself beyond a shadow of a doubt that prayer is a forceful power - when one know that as a fact, he cannot doubt the existence of a Deity.

I have had the general procedure outlined for me by Mr. Sugrue and wish to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A PHYSICAL READING. During the day I am in one of the government buildings, though not always in the same office; Sundays I shall be at home. I hope that an appointment will be possible and that instructions on how close to a given address one must be at the time of the reading. If the hour of the reading were known to me I could arrange to be in any specified room.

Your records will show that I have a reading scheduled for September 7th, 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M., E.W.T.

I shall be at the above address during the hour.

The following is a list of questions I should like to have answered. They are the result of suggestions by the man in charge of the Washington Health Foundation [Jonas E. Miller, D.C.; N.D.], who has had the opportunity of treating several patients who have had readings by Mr. Cayce.

1. What is the cause of the condition?
2. Actual date of onset, irrespective of when I first noticed it?
3. Name all the contributing factors toward the condition.
4. What is the present seat or location of the difficulty?
5. What means or methods must be used to correct the condition?
6. Can it be completely cured?
7. If so, how long a time will be required?
8. What additional treatments, if any, do you recommend to supplement the main type of treatment?
9. How long will it be before I can again enjoy normal health, if I follow your instructions, supposing such a condition of body is again possible?
10. Will it be necessary for further information from you?

I am looking forward with a great deal of interest to hearing from you on the results of this reading, and shall certainly do everything in my power to follow the suggestions outlined by the reading.
