This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of September, 1943, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 11:10 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.J.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes. Here, as we find, is a retarded development in the mental as well as the physical conditions. These are partially karmic and are the result of conditions also of a prenatal nature. Hence portions of same will be harder to deal with than others.

3. We would suggest corrections osteopathically over a long period, taking these rather in groups; that is, series of treatments. Have treatments for a month - twice each week for about a month - and then leave off for six weeks and then take again, and so on.

4. Under the existent conditions, and the stage of the body’s development this will be the better manner for controlling these conditions. This we would do.

5. Ready for questions.

6. (Q) What is the cause of the mental retardation? Cessation of speech? (A) Lack of coordination in the centers where there are the greater patches of the lymph, where the central and cerebrospinal nervous systems coordinate. The coccyx end of the spine, the ninth dorsal, sixth and seventh dorsal, the first, second and third cervical - these are the areas where there is the lack of coordination. These would be the centers where relaxation would be given, in stimulation by relaxations.

7. (Q) Does the body need any other treatment than the osteopathic corrections? (A) Not at this present time. After about three or four such series, we would give the changes that have been wrought, and the possibilities or probabilities of there being brought normalcy for portions of the body development.

8. (Q) Please suggest an osteopath? (A) We would choose someone in sympathy with this information, and unless he will accept it as such go to another. We haven’t one here.

9. We are through for the present.

R1. 10/7/43 Mother’s letter: “We have engaged the services of Dr. C. T. Markert, 295 Main Street, Ridgefield Park, N.J. who is pursuing the osteopathic treatments for [3208] as outlined in the Psychic Reading given for him Sept. 13, 1943. We are following your instructions implicitly and prayerfully hoping for the best.”

R2. 3/27/44 Mother’s letter: “We are now in the third series of osteopathic treatments for [3208]. Please advise us as to the time for the check reading to determine the changes that have been wrought.

“My husband and I attended the meeting in N.Y. on Nov. 9th and were happy to have had the opportunity to see and hear you. I wanted so much to shake hands with you, but the ‘lady dragon’ in charge of the forum refused with a very definite ‘No!’

“You may be interested to hear also, that since that meeting I have been following the daily programs from Kansas City on the Unity viewpoint, and find it most helpful. With your assistance to guide us medically, & our combined faith and prayers, we expect to accomplish a remarkable recovery for [3208] to the end that his life may count for goodness and and usefulness in the years to come.”

R3. 5/14/44 Father’s letter: “In answer to your letter of March 31st, we wish to advise that it is the consensus of opinion that it would be best to arrange to have a ck. rdg. taken for [3208]. The osteopath has been cooperating with us and has been proceeding along the lines suggested by you and we feel that a check reading would show if there was needed treatment in any other area or if more emphasis should be put on any of the present treatments.

“The above suggestions should not be construed as limiting the check rdg. as any information or suggestions will be sympathetically received and carefully acted upon. We realize that your time is under constant demand but under the circumstances would like a check reading as soon as you can arrange it. Delay in answering your letter was not occasioned by indifference but to the fact that we were watching results of treatment.”

R4. 5/22/44 Father’s letter: In accordance with our phone conversation of this evening I am enclosing executed form and check for $10.00 for check reading for [3208]. As a matter of record I asked the following questions:

Should the same areas be treated? Any other areas (should they be treated)? Should any other treatment be used? Are the changes that have occurred of a permanent nature? Would it be possible to induce speech by treatment and if so what kind of treatment?

B1. 4/28/43 Mother’s letter: “He began to show symptoms that all was not well when he was 13 mo. old. The trouble gradually progressed till he began to get convulsions at 3-1/2 yrs. He is now almost 16 yrs. & has not walked for 8 yrs. His mental development was arrested as his physical difficulties increased. Now he neither walks nor talks… The doctors consider him quite hopeless, having diagnosed his condition as spastic paralysis, an ependemitis, cerebral palsy, secondary hydrocephalus, etc. The case of Aime Dietrich in your book interested us because it seems to parallel my son’s experience.”

B2. 5/14/43, 5/31/43 Questions submitted:

1. What is the cause of the mental retardation? Cessation of speech?
2. What course of treatment will eliminate this trouble?
3. What course of treatment will cure his spastic paralysis?
4. What is the source of the metabolic disorganization which prevents his system from properly utilizing the calcium, so that his blood calcium is high while X-ray pictures of bones show a decided lack of calcium? & treatment.
5. There is a persistent nasal block which has not been eliminated by three operations for adenoids. What is the cause and treatment for this condition?
6. What causes the stomach & intestinal condition producing a renal colic so painful as to frequently cause a convulsion?
7. Please suggest an osteopath or medical doctor in this locality to follow out these instructions.
