This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 14th day of September, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3212], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book THERE IS A RIVER.

Born July 19, 1897, just before midnight, in Ozone Park, Long Island, N.Y. Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:15 A. M. Eastern War Time. N.Y.C.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: (In going back over years from the present - ” - ‘40 - periods of some anxiety, of entity’s own making - ‘31 - opportunities - ‘21 - periods of exaltation and anxiety - yes, what a pleasing personality!”)

3. We have the records here of that entity now known as [3212].

4. In giving an interpretation of the records here many are the abilities of the entity. These directed with and through an ideal, and self and selfishness eliminated through the desires and purposes to be used as a channel of blessings, will bring real peace and happiness to this particular entity.

5. For, the activities through the earth have brought helpful influences, even though - judged by man’s point of view, or the yearstick or measurement in materiality - much despair has been apparent. Yet whenever the ideals have been kept we find that these have brought periods of helpful, hopeful influences. Thus innately there is constantly felt in the experience of this entity “it will work out.” This is well, if the purpose and ideal is kept in truth as was manifested in the earth, the heritage of each soul that would walk and talk oft with Him. Not that there are not those abilities or opportunities by the entity to turn much into an egotistical behavior, yet there has been ever that prompting deep and innately within self which has drawn the entity back again to the one cause and one purpose.

6. In judging the records, as we find them:

7. We find in Jupiter the desire ever to make those expressions to the glorification of one cause or one purpose, yet reservations are oft the order of the day with the mental self. These must be submerged if there would be the unfoldment that may bring the entity those opportunities and privileges to make manifest the love of God towards the children of men in many ways.

8. The body is good in its figurement, and clothing oft means much to the entity for occasions. And these are a part of the experience; a time for this or that whether the experience be a mental, an emotional, a spiritual or purely material manifestation.

9. These have continued to be as a purposeful experience for this particular entity.

10. All the more reason how and why the entity should choose directions in its activities that may be in accord with that which may be the experience of every soul through walking oft with Him, who has promised, “I will be with thee always, even unto the end of the world.”

11. In Jupiter, then, we find the benevolent forces.

12. We find in Mars the high mental ability.

13. Saturn is well.

14. In Neptune we find the interest in the love life of a home, more than in the individual contributions that each may make for a home. For, every experience in the material world arises from the correlation of one incident with another or one’s feelings from one period to another.

15. As to the earthly appearances, and that the entity may use in its physical, mental, spiritual unfoldment:

16. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity but in a varied circumstance to entering in the present. For, in the valley of the Mohawk, where there were the preparations for caring for many through those periods of trial, the entity was a contributing factor to the needs of the people thereabout.

17. And in this, as it has ever been, there was the building or accomplishing of the purpose for which the entity entered, to whit; “That the Father might be glorified in many through His Son in the earth and that I might be ever the source of blessings for others.”

18. The name then was Carrie Huggens. The entity gained, for it applied itself in those things toward helpfulness for others.

19. Before that the entity was in the land when the Master walked in the earth. The entity was among those who heard Him gladly, and who with the associations and the companions at the time kept rather close in the activities, especially when there was the establishing of the church in the Holy City.

20. The entity was among those chosen to administer the bread after there had been the instituting of same as the body and the blood of the Master; who felt equal to it in self, to miss the way of the Cross, yet as He prayed, “Let not this cup pass from me unless I be glorified in Thee through Him.”

21. So, as in the experience of the entity then, as Jeuel, the activities are ever dependent upon changes, although rote is a part of the experience needing discipline; that you more and more may become a reflection of that you would desire in thy purposes and thy ideals.

22. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when there were the preparations for the departure that brought to the peoples the new undertaking.

23. The entity was among those sent as emissaries to other lands; bringing much peace out of a chaotic world. Hence the influences in the present torment, as it were, the entity; not for its own, but for those that may be engulfed in the turmoils through which all peoples are passing.

24. Thus in the present experience the entity may at times find obstacles, but if self is made at one, being forgiven for shortcomings even as ye forgive, there may be the outlet for the self in the activity in the earth.

25. Study those things indicated as pertaining to those that would direct the activities. Embrace same. Not as a schism or cult but in that “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.”

26. So may the entity find in its activities that which may enable many another to manifest to the glory of the Creative Forces as did the entity through the Egyptian experience as the emissary for the tenets and truths presented. The entity may in the present find truths that may lead others to the glory of the Creative Forces. And these will bring of themselves material, financial, as well as a social prestige. Use it, do not abuse it.

27. Study, then, to show self approved unto God, a workman not ashamed rightly dividing the words of truth and keeping self away from condemnation of any kind.

28. In these ways and manners may the soul grow, and there will come those better principles in the experience throughout this earthly sojourn.

30. (Q) Have I chosen the correct or proper life work for myself (registered nurse)? (A) Not better might have been chosen.

31. (Q) Is it indicated that I will become successful as a painter? (I have been painting for the past few years.) (A) This will be long, hard work, but may be accomplished - if the entity applies itself in those specific directions. These, as we find, depend much upon the ideal of the entity.

32. (Q) Have I failed in my duty to my family and my late husband in the years past? (A) We do not find that the entity has failed either in precept or principle. As to those relationships with the family these had best be interpreted through the paralleling of the lives of many of these.

33. (Q) What can I do to insure a happier future for myself and family? (A) Study always to show self approved meditating upon same; thus you attune self to the Creative Forces, the real source of all happiness.

34. (Q) What have been my past associations with my children, and how can I best help each one? First, my son […]? (A) Not as tying him to your apron strings but reason and counsel with him oft as to the ideal and the manner in which it may manifest in the earth.

35. (Q) My daughter, […]? (A) This had best be by companionship.

36. (Q) My daughter, […]? (A) […] tends to go her way; not to be liberated, as it were, entirely, but keep thy counsel - not asking the entity to do anything ye would not do yourself.

Keep the faith, and ye will grow to that better knowledge and understanding of the principles thus involved.

R1. 9/25/43 She wrote: “It is most interesting and I am sure it will prove of inestimable value to me. I shall study the reading conscientiously… I would greatly appreciate a Life Reading for my 16 yr. old son.”

R2. 10/12/43 She wrote regarding appointment for her son, saying:

“I was interested in your reply to my questions, especially the one in which I asked if I could ever attain success as a painter.

“I exhibited three of my pictures at the Mineola County Fair recently. One picture, a water color of wild flowers, received an award and was chosen by the art director of Adelphi College for their Fall exhibition. Also, last spring I entered some water colors as an amateur, at the American Water Color Society Show. One was chosen and hung at the National Academy at the annual water color show. I am going to enter two pictures in the Allied Artists show this month and hope they pass the jury. I have never exhibited with this group before.

“I also asked if I ever failed in my duty to my husband or my family. Your reply comforted me. We all have misgivings when death comes suddenly to a loved one.

“My reading has given me food for thought and I am certain you have been a great help to me.”

R3. 8/5/46 She wrote requesting a copy of her Life Reading, saying: “I remarried last Feb., so please send all data in future to…[3212].”

R4. 5/9/68 [3212]‘s letter to HLC from …, Colorado:

“Ever since I saw you on the program, HIGH NOON IN DENVER, I felt impelled to write to you.

“Long ago, maybe in ‘43 or ‘44, your father gave me a Life Reading. It was very interesting.

“When I rec’d the rdg. I was amazed. I was on this earth 3 times before my present life, according to the rdg. The last time was sometime in the last century. I cannot remember my first name but my last name was Huggens. I was so intrigued I went to the Public Library in N.Y.C. and looked up the name. There were many persons with this name but only one recorded with the same first name your father gave me. If I remember correctly, I was a nurse and died in 1846. Also I lived in N.Y. state but I don’t recall the name of the town.

“I really am a registered nurse and I retired in 1964. Also your father ans’d several questions and all the answers came true. I cherished this rdg. but somehow it became lost. And I can’t remember all of it.

“I had a very tragic episode in my life in 1942 and I could find no peace night or day. Then I read about Edgar Cayce - and about Thomas Sugrue’s book, THERE IS A RIVER. After reading this book in April 1943, I applied for the Life Rdg., but I don’t remember how long after I read the book.

“One Sunday morning while kneeling in church praying, I felt the most wonderful feeling of peace come over me. It was almost like someone placed a cloak around my shoulders, and I felt I could go on and face life again. This happened after the Life Reading.

“I went to a meeting in Manhattan a long time ago (I believe it was after I had the Life Rdg. and after I had bought the book). Among other people I met Thomas Sugrue and spoke with him. He was a most gracious and interesting man. I shall always remember him. He was in a wheel chair.

“When did your father die? I can’t seem to remember. He had a wonderful gift and he helped many people. I know he helped me…

“If you find a copy of this reading I will be very glad to pay for it.”
