GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes (funny way they have the house facing, isn’t it?) - we have the body here, [3221].
-
As we find, there are disturbances in the physical forces of the body. Some of these are pathological, others are psychological; and from the psychological come a karmic condition.
-
Hence the general attitude of the body as to its purposes, its aims, its desires, will be a natural part of those things necessary if the application for the physical disturbances would be materially effective.
-
These as we find, arise from the coordinating of the imaginative system, or organs with the physical activity of the glandular system pertaining to the organs of the pelvis, combined with a condition in the digestive system.
-
For, as indicated at and during those periods where there was the healing at the navel center, lesions were formed. For, there was once cold or congestion during that early period.
-
Now with those changes that have come about in the glands that work with the organs of the pelvis, or the activity of the sex organs, and with the digestive forces, there are such disturbances produced that physical expression is found in lapses of consciousness, or convulsions at times.
-
These as we find, then, are the physical or pathological conditions existent.
-
In meeting these, some of those conditions - as of timidity, as of those conditions pertaining to the activities and associations of the body - will naturally be changed, if the attitude is changed.
-
In changing the attitude, let it be in this manner:
-
Take those portions of the Scripture that refer directly to the physical, the mental and spiritual body, as in its relationship to Creative Forces, and that the entity may expect. For, karma may be met; that is, of a nature - may be met in and with Him, who healeth thy body, who giveth life, who is the resurrection. In Him we live and love and have our being.
-
Not merely being able to repeat these, but know the intent or meaning of same. Read and study daily the 30th of Deuteronomy; then the 14th, 15th, 16th of St. John. Not merely know them, but live them and be them. These will change the attitudes.
-
Physically, - for one hour each day for three days in succession each week apply hot Castor Oil Packs over the liver and caecum area; that is the area extending from just below the rib to the lower portion of the abdomen or the top of the hip bone on the right side of the body. Here apply at least three thicknesses of flannel cloth saturated with Castor Oil, directly to the body. Cover this with oilcloth to prevent soiling linen. Then apply an electric pad. Keep this on for at least one hour; not so hot as to become uncomfortable but sufficiently hot that the body will absorb the oil.
-
Following each series of the Oil Packs, - that is, on the evening following the third Castor Oil Pack each week, - take internally at least a tablespoonful of Olive Oil.
-
Each day when the Packs are removed, - that is, daily for the three days each week, - first sponge off the body with a weak soda water; then massage Camphorated Oil into the whole area, very gently but very thoroughly. Don’t do it just to get through with, but massage it thoroughly.
-
Do this for at least thirty to forty periods.
-
Then, when there has been about four periods of the Castor Oil, begin with osteopathic adjustments of those conditions existent in the lumbar and sacral area and in the 3rd cervical. There would be required about six or eight treatments.
-
Be mindful of the diet. Beware of combining too great quantities of starches. For this body, white potatoes and spaghetti or macaroni should never be taken at the same meal; no two of such as these at any one meal.
-
Plenty of sea foods and fowl should be preferably the meats.
-
A great deal of fresh raw vegetables should be taken, including carrots, celery, lettuce, and every form of green vegetable that may be obtained throughout the year. Take some of these, (that is, such as carrots, celery, lettuce) at some meal every day.
-
By the time there has been the eighth to tenth adjustment we find that the body should be rid entirely of these disturbances. But keep up the Packs after such adjustments have been made.
-
Should there come painful menstruation, from the first few treatments, apply a Glyco-Thymoline Pack over the pubic center. Use two to three thicknesses of cotton cloth well saturated in the Glyco-Thymoline. This should be warm, but do not apply an electric pad here. Keep the Pack warm with heated heavy salt, put in a bag. This will be beneficial and make the Periods easier for the body - until the full corrections are made.
-
Ready for questions. Do these, and we will bring better conditions.
-
We are through with this reading.

(GD’s note: See directions [which were enclosed] for preparing Castor Oil Packs. When it is time for the osteopathic treatments, we would refer you to one such as Dr. Douglas J. Rathbun, 325 State St., New London, Conn., who has had experience with following Mr. Cayce’s readings; that is if he is close enough to you. You may have a good osteopath nearer to you. Please let us have the name of the one you choose.)
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 10/4/43 Mother’s letter:
“The reading for [3221] which you gave on September 18th was most helpful and full of constructive suggestions which we are acting on. The reason for the delay in my writing to thank you is that I have been away having a much needed rest and change and promised to let all my ‘desk work’ wait.
“I think you may be interested to know that shortly before the date of the reading for [3221] we had arranged to have her attend a new school that is opening here in …, and to go as a boarding pupil, a thrilling opportunity as heretofore she has had to stay close to home and craved independence very much, quite naturally. The interesting thing is that this is a school run by a religious order of the Episcopal Church, established as a teaching order for women. The Mother Superior is a very fine woman of wide experience and deep understanding. She is much interested in [3221]‘s case, and I have turned over to her a copy of the Reading and left it to her to carry out your suggestions. It seems heaven-sent to have [3221] living in such an environment where the need for development of ‘attitude’ will be understood and worked out under the most natural and helpful circumstances. The registered nurse will give the oil packs, and an osteopath in Bridgeport, Conn. will probably give the treatments. The Mother Superior is studying [3221]‘s case and going slowly, for she feels that psychologically the child must readjust her values, and not feel that her physical handicap is so important. Time will tell, and if you are interested, for your records in following these cases, I will be glad to write you a report from time to time. Will you let me know if this is your wish?
“I wrote to the osteopath in New London, asking him to recommend someone nearer to us, but never heard from him.
“Would you also be interested to know that your reading enumerated the two physical weak spots which we had previously located in [3221] but had not found the solution for rectifying them. That place in her back is just where she has had trouble since she fell from a horse four years ago, and where osteopaths have treated her, and the condition in the digestive system seemed to locate in the caecum are. The psychological difficulties enumerated were also extraordinarily true. And our house does face two ways, two front doors, one to the south and one to the west! I think another reading in the spring would be most helpful.” Sincerely […]
R2. 9/14/44 Mother’s letter:
“Thank you for your letter of Sept. 11th regarding the renewal of my active membership. At this time I cannot afford a membership and will have to subscribe again when I can see my way to do so.
“We have followed Mr. Cayce’s suggestions from the Reading for my daughter [3221] of last Sept. 18th but have had a rather discouraging year. I have hesitated to write Mr. Cayce to report on this until we had been able to work on every detail. I do wish there were a chance to have another reading this fall, but I can see that we must wait our turn. Our main difficulty with [3221] seems to be in improving her attitude.
“I know this personal side should not go in to a letter on Membership! Perhaps you will be kind enough to pass on this letter to Mr. Cayce.” Sincerely, […]
R3. 1/13/45 GD’s note: “Jeanne, copy her rdg. when you get a chance and enclose this bill. Also enclose pub. list & forms, etc.”
R4. 2/8/45 Mother’s letter:
“It was with sadness that I read of the death of Mr. Cayce and felt that a great spiritual force had been taken from our earthy life. His work will of course go on through the records filed with the Association and I am confident that his influence will live and grow.
“May I trouble you to forward me at your earliest convenience a copy of the Reading which Mr. Cayce gave my daughter [3221] on Sept. 18, 1943. I was not able to systematically follow his directions last year, but now she is living at home and we can follow the treatments without fail. In the meantime the copy has been lost and I am anxious to lose no time.” Sincerely […]
Background
Background
B1. 6/17/43 Letter from mother: “She is 16 and has been suffering from what appear to be epileptic attacks, some very mild, some intense, for 4 years. We have followed every means we know to determine the cause of these attacks, but so far have made no real progress. The history of our whole family is free from illness of this kind.”
B2. 8/23/43 Mother submitted these questions:
- What brings on the convulsive attacks?
- Has the digestive system any relation to the trouble?
- Is there a psychiatric aspect to the picture?
- How can we relieve her and make her well?
