GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
The conditions here are not very satisfactory. But as we find, with the precautions, with care, and prayer, and expectancy, these can be eliminated - and conditions can become near to normal.
-
While this will require, of course, care of the body for many years, we find that by the second cycle - or by the time the body is twenty-nine it will be entirely well or there will be no use - dependent upon the attitude and purpose of the body and how consistent it may be in the use of those things that may be suggested here.
-
That there has been active tubercle through the lungs has been indicated not only by the administrations that have been made but by the actual conditions that exist in the upper portion of one lung and in the central and lower portion of the other.
-
The general health has varied as to resistance, but the applications of those injections we do not find beneficial. True, it relieves pressure, but it is only a temporary and not a curative, not even a healing influence at all.
-
There needs to be the attempt to let nature respond, through the most natural means. We find the lack of assimilation and low resistance, so that the gastric flow in the stomach have become deficient. The blood supply itself is lacking in elements that assist in making for structural portions, that is sinew and bone when there is that call on same from digestion to supply the means for the normal change. Hence calcium, is lacking in the body. This we find not only in the saliva but in the gastric flow of the stomach, as well as in the urine and stool.
-
These, then, are to be met.
-
In making preparations for corrections, then:
-
First, keep in the open - wherever the body may be - as much as possible. To be sure, it would be better if the body were in those areas where there are the pines; such as portions of Carolina, or Colorado or areas along the sea coast of the Atlantic where sea and pines are close together. These are the natural environs, for the balm of each of theses adds elements to body energies.
-
Prepare a charred oak keg, with an opening so that apple brandy may be put in same and the fumes inhaled. Use only double distilled apple brandy. This is not to be taken but is to be kept where it will evaporate (that is in a warm place). In a gallon and a half or two gallon keg put half a gallon of the brandy. The holes in the top of the keg or on neck over it should be kept tightly corked. Keep the keg close to the stove or heater where it will not be too hot but where natural evaporation would take place. About twice each day, or twice during the day and once during the evening, inhale the fumes from the brandy into the lungs and throat. This acts as an antiseptic also as a healing influence to the lung areas themselves. Use only the apple brandy not any other brandy.
-
Also take internally calcium in the form of Calcios. This would be taken one week every day, and the next week every other day. We do not wish to have too much, but all the body will assimilate. Spread this thinly on a whole wheat cracker and eat it, preferably at the noon meal; just the one cracker spread with this and eaten - one week each day, the next week every other day.
-
Each day also take internally half a teaspoonful of Acigest in raw milk, preferably at the evening meal.
-
Do take daily two teaspoonsful of Beef Juice, one in the morning - or between breakfast and the noon meal, and one in the afternoon just after the body has rested and sleep for at least a few minutes. Let the body be a minute or two minutes in sipping the teaspoonful.
-
Do have occasionally - this means once or twice a week Yogurt as an intestinal antiseptic. This is to create bacilli that may clear the colon area. This should be obtained from certain groups of individuals that prepare certain food properties, (such as Battle Creek Sanitarium Products). However, if the Yogurt cannot be obtained, then use Glyco-Thymoline internally as an antiseptic for the intestinal system - two to three drops in a half a glass of water two to three times a week.
-
At least every ten days have a colonic irrigation, using Glyco-Thymoline in the rinse water at such periods - a tablespoonful to each quart of body temperature water that is injected.
-
Do not get the feet wet nor sit in drafts.
-
Do not be out of doors without something on the head or without something around the neck. But keep in the open.
-
Do not have a great deal of night air directly on the body, though do not sleep in a room where there is no ventilation. The ventilation should be from the top and bottom, not merely bottom in any room.
-
Do these and we may bring those influences that will bring conditions for normal forces with this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Why am I nauseated at sight of food, and how overcome it? (Doctors here have not been able to recommend anything to remedy this condition.) (A) As indicated, it is the lack of the proper digestive fluids. After the Acigest has been taken, and the alimentary canal has been cleansed, we will see that the body will want food. So, it may be a few days before you can begin taking much foods.
Do eat liver, fish and fowl, and do have all the leafy vegetables the body can absorb - as foods are changed. Not too much of the pod or tuberous vegetables, though carrots, yams, (sweet potatoes) and the oyster plant (salsify) should be taken. These are very good.
- We are through for the present.

Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received my reading on Wednesday; thank you very much. I shall do my best to put the suggestions made in the reading into practice.
In reference to the reading I have a few questions I would like to ask.
(1) Is there any substitute for the pure beef juice that was called for? In this section we cannot obtain beef often for weeks at a time. How about BOVRIL as a substitute? (2) Can you give me a little more information concerning colonic irrigation? Can it be self-administered? How long a tube should be used? (3) How long a period is this reading intended to cover? Approximately when will another reading be necessary?
Sincerely, [3222]
R2. 9/30/43 EC’s ltr. to [3222]:
Dear Mr. [3222]
Replying to yours of the 24th, I do hope that you can follow the suggestions given in your reading as close as possible. The nearest substitute that you will be able to obtain for beef juice would be Wyeth’s Beef, Iron and Wine. I think if you would take this on days and take just a teaspoonful, when you unable to have the beef juice, this would be all right. The colonic irrigations should not be attempted alone, but should be given by a professional. I think if you will call Dr. Marion Dick, you can make arrangements for that. The check reading approximately about six months is the usual, unless something unusual develops. I do not think Dr. Dick will charge very much for talking the reading over with her and she has had experiences with same.
Hoping to be of a real service, I am,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce

B1. 5/7/43 Letter: “A year ago this month, while studying for the ministry at the Seminary of the Reformed Episcopal Church, in Philadelphia, I succumbed to pulmonary tuberculosis. I am now at the State Hospital here at South Mountain taking treatment. However, I am dissatisfied with the results I am getting. My general condition seems to be worse than it was 10 months ago. Besides I have contracted a throat condition which hampers my speech.”
B2. 5/26/43 Letter:
Assoc. for Research & Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received your letter stating you had filed my application for membership and would endeavor to work my reading in when I was down at Virginia Beach.
I thank you very much for your kindness and consideration. Allow me to explain the situation a little more clearly. I intended to come to Virginia Beach just for the reading. If you can set an approximate date I will “sign out” from this institution just previous to that so that I may be present for the reading. Any date from now on is suitable to me, so you may set any date that will be convenient for you.
There is one thing that is bothering me. I am taking Pneumothorax on the left side. If I lose that collapse the possibilities are I shall not be able to obtain it again. If the reading suggests I let the lung come up, that is agreeable to me, but I would like to have my reading as soon after I leave here as possible so that in case it is necessary to continue Pneumo I will be able to do so.
Another thing, does the Association have contact with physicians who will administer the treatment prescribed by the readings?
B3. 7/13/43 [3222]‘s ltr. to EC:
Mount Alto Sanatorium, South Mountain, Penna.
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I hesitate to write this letter because I feel that you are probably over-burdened with work as it is, and I don’t want to make a nuisance of myself. Also you have been so gracious with me that I don’t want to impose on your kindness. However existing conditions have caused me considerable anxiety, so I am taking the liberty of writing you. Please be patient with me.
I wrote to you previously concerning a physical reading and the date was set as September 18. I had every intention of being present for the reading, but now, because of existing transportation condition, I find it will be practically impossible for me to be there. But that is of least importance.
I have been alarmed at the steady and sustained loss of weight I am experiencing. In the last six months I have lost approximately twenty pounds and my weight still seems to be dropping without any sign of letting up. I have completely lost my appetite. In fact I often experience nausea at the sight of food. The physicians here have not been able to recommend anything to remedy this condition.
In view of these facts I was wondering if it would possible for me to receive a reading earlier than September 18. I don’t like to encroach on anyone else’s time. Perhaps I am unduly alarmed, but I thought I should let you know how the situation stands. I thank you for every consideration you can give me.
Sincerely, [3222]
