This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of September, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3228], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. [1646].

Born January 16, 1883, in Glasgow, Scotland. Time of Reading 10:45 to 11:25 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.Y.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3228].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records as we find them here, these we chose with the desire and purpose to be a helpful influence in the experience of this entity. However, the entity in self is often self-efficient. This in many instances might be called egotistical. In this entity it is not intended to convey such an idea. Rather has the entity in most of his experiences belittled itself; but keeping patient, keeping true to the urges, not getting away from the putting of first things first, laying stress or emphasis on that true accord with the divine blessings that have been bestowed on the entity.

4. The warnings would be to not limit self by being satisfied or even content with mediocre directions. For the abilities in this entity are such that, if there would be full expression, the world would come to know the entity, [3228], as a genius.

5. The entity is gifted in any field where creative or constructive influences are to be the manifestations, whether in art, in music, or in mechanical or chemical fields of activity. All of these are channels through which the entity might have made a success, as it were, and has - in those fields of activity chosen by the entity. The entity in some measures has limited itself by some choices made.

6. If there would be constantly a turning within, seeking to be guided by the Creative Forces in those activities that would cause the entity to be a greater channel of service for its fellow man, the entity may even yet succeed in the creating of many things that would be constructive in the experiences of the masses of peoples.

7. Astrologically, these relationships are very far from the actual application of the entity, yet these remain as latent urges in the entity’s experience. Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus in their inter-relationship, all become factors in the activities of the mental self. And mind is the builder.

8. Music, art, chemistry, mechanical appliances all are of interest and have been a field of meditation and interpretation, and may be more yet - according to the purposes, desires, and hopes of the entity in the present.

9. As to the appearances, these have been rather inclined to be few, or far apart in the varied activities of the entity.

10. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity, active in making for the correlating of materials for domestic use in adding to body comforts, in those things especially pertaining to manners and means of preparing wool or plaids or cloth - the manner in which these might be made into clothes for wear by the self and the follow man.

11. Hence the interest in fabrics and colors, dyes and things pertaining to making the variations in the consciousness or experiences of the entity and those about him.

12. Then in the name Carl Newcomb, the entity made for the unfoldment and advancement of some of those processes that have been and are still in partial use, as to the preparation of such materials for the advantage or benefit of human experience.

13. Before that the entity was in the Persian and Arabian land, during those periods of activity in the ‘city in the hills and plains,’ when there was the correlating of activities pertaining to preparing materials or instruments for the producing of music. The activities of descriptive music as of nature, as of all forms of same, were the experience of the entity through that period, in supplying same for a part of the worship - as benedictions upon events and activities of individuals.

14. Then name then was Aieda.

15. Again it may be said that the entity contributed to the well-being of many peoples through the use of such instruments for a greater universal activity - ritualistic in spiritual divisions and in relationships one to another as in entertainment. The lessons to be learned from the varied characters of such are of special interest to the entity.

16. The reed instruments especially the organ, the entity may yet not only master but supply something that would be a greater source of activity in applying mechanical devices in relationships to the reproduction or recording of music of the varied types. However, the pastoral music chamber music and the like are of the greater or special interest to the entity.

17. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land, when there was the building up of the activities in which various groups were assigned to render definite services in varied quarters for the general welfare of man’s sojourning there.

18. Hence the entity was in close touch with those in authority, politically as well as in the economic and the spiritual phase of those experiences.

19. The activities of the entity led all of those influences that made for permanent residences for varied groups through this training in those periods.

20. Before that the entity was in the Atlantean land, through those periods when there were great turmoils between the children of men and the children of Creative Forces.

21. Hence the feelings or the interests of the entity in the unseen, the occult; but very scientific in the way of applying same.

22. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

In any fields of service where there is to be the use of the hands and the mind, of the feet and the mind, these may become as feats for the entity in preparations for activities of conveniences of many natures; whether built purely by chemical means, mental restraints, or by activities in which the greater service of self may be a contribution to the greater good of all.

25. (Q) I have heretofore disliked the idea of reincarnation but I want truth. Is there any evidence that I have been here before. (A) The urges that have been indicated for the entity here should answer this. For, there must ever be the answer within. For, “My spirit beareth witness with thy spirit sayeth the Lord.”

Dear Sirs,

I have received the Life Reading. Thank you! Parts of it I find credible; others, not so, at all.

That I was once Carl Newcomb in Scotland and at the that time interested in weaving and dyeing, is credible. In my present life as a research chemist I have been interested in filaments and fabrics, natural and artificial, and have actually invented a new process for making an artificial silk. Dyeing follows as a matter of course. I have also done good work in the related field of plastics and have invented a new synthetic rubber with unique properties. Truly, my present life thus far has been devoted to ‘More things for more people at less cost’. ‘Better things for better living through chemistry’. I have now come to despise these formulas. I now believe with Claude Bragdon that: “THE CONSUMMATION MOST DEVOUTLY TO BE DESIRED IS NOT THE PUSHING TO THE LIMITS OF THE POSSIBLE IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD BUT THE EXPANSION OF CONSCIOUSNESS ITSELF.”

In regard to music, if I ever had any sense of it, it has certainly been most effectively suppressed. Mathematics and Music always go together for the former is the science of time; the latter, the art of time, music being unconscious counting. I am a poor mathematician and become less interested daily. I was sent to the piano between the ages of seven and twelve. I was never interested and acquired no skill. I refused to take dancing lessons, have never learned to dance and have never regretted my early decision. I never go to concerts; never listen to radio, in fact, I despise it. I seem to be essentially ‘space-minded’. Just as mathematics and music go together, the plastic arts and engineering go together, the former being the art of space and the latter, the science. I once took the special aptitude test of Johnson O’Connor. These proved conclusively that I was ‘space minded’. Altho I am blind in one eye and have therefore no stereoscopic vision, I assembled the pyramid in almost record time so good was my sense of three dimensions. I was asked to take the music test and did. They could not rate me low enough. So, if I were once a musician, it certainly hasn’t carried over.

That I was once in Atlantis, credible. In Moslem society, more credible. I was probably an eunuch and sexually repressed, hence my great trouble with sex in this incarnation. Egypt, probable enough.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I dislike the idea of re-incarnation but I want truth and I admit that there is a substantial body of evidence in favor of it. I would like such a reading as will furnish evidence that ‘I have been here before’ if, indeed, that be the case. I have forgotten whether that be a ‘Life’ or a ‘Spiritual and Mental’ reading. Next Sunday afternoon between one and five, I shall remain passive but if that time is not convenient to you, we can defer it until the 30th.
