This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 7th day of October, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3270], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in CORONET magazine, through Reverend Paul R. Wert.

Time of Reading 3:35 to 3:45 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Penna.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3270].

3. As we find, these conditions have grown to be rather acute, in the supplying from the glandular system to the muscular forces the lymph flow in joints and in portions of the body that have become inflamed with the disturbances.

4. We would begin immediately taking Atomidine internally; two drops in half a glass of water every other day before the morning meal.

5. Every day, where there is swelling in joints and in portions of the body, dampen a cloth with Atomidine (full strength), and wrap it about that area. Leave this on for an hour or until the cloth is entirely dried out from the absorption. Keep this up for five days.

6. Then begin (not before) with high colonics to remove the fecal forces from the colon area. For, there will be some more accumulation from the circulation that will be produced by the activity of these properties through the body forces from absorption as well as through the alimentary canal. These colonics should be given at least once every ten days, and by a professional.

7. After the Atomidine has been taken every other day for ten days, and the first colonic has been given, rest from all the treatments for three to four days. Then begin with the Wet Cell Appliance carrying Gold and Camphor alternately, one day using the Gold - in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water, the next day using commercial strength Spirits of Camphor.

8. The larger plate would be attached each day for thirty minutes to the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus. When using the Gold, the small plate would be attached at the 9th dorsal center. The next day when using the Camphor, the small plate would be attached to the lumbar axis.

9. Use the regular strength charged solution for the Appliance.

10. Each day following the use of the Appliance, massage the body with this combination of oils, added in the order named:

Nujol as the base…4 ounces, Oil of Pine Needles…1 ounce, Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Sassafras Root Oil…1/2 ounce.

11. These will tend to separate, but shake them together each time before they are used. Pour a small quantity in a saucer and massage into the spine from the head to the end of the spine, and then down the limbs, knees, hips, elbows, shoulders. All of these should be massaged each day. Take plenty of time and let the body absorb all that it will.

12. It would be well to have this massage follow just after a hot sponge bath or shower bath. Use the Appliance, then have a shower or sponge bath, and then the oil rub.

13. In the diet keep close to body building foods, and supply the elements of B-1, and A and D. Take the A and D of morning, the B-1 of evening.

14. Do these and, as we find, these offer the best help for the body in the immediate.

15. In ten weeks, we would give further instructions.

16. (Q) What is the origin of this trouble? (A) The lack of chemical balance in the system and the glandular forces becoming involved.

R1. 11/12/43 Reverend Paul Wert’s letter to EC: “Your extreme kindness and courtesy to Mr. [3270], …, Pennsylvania has been received with deepest gratitude by everyone who has any knowledge of the case.

“We followed your instructions carefully. Dr. F. A. DeMois, Osteopathic Physician, is supervising the case. However, Dr. Swarz and Dr. Paul Shoemaker are consulting in the case. We had followed the Atomidine treatment and one colonic. Mr. [3270] was happy with the results. But his chest muscles were too far gone and we had to take him to the hospital for artificial respiration. He is in an iron lung for the second week. We are hopeful that a sufficient amount of strength can be restored so as to allow him to be removed from the iron lung from time to time and to apply the Wet Cell treatment. It is quite possible that we may have to come to you very shortly for a check reading. I shall try to keep you informed…”

R2. 12/11/43 Reverend Paul Wert’s letter to EC: “I am coming to you again with Mr. [3270]‘s case. In my previous letters I told you that we carried out your suggestions, but before we were at the place where we could use the Wet Cell, his chest muscles collapsed so completely it was necessary to rush him to the hospital and place him in the iron lung. Of course this made the continuance of your treatments impossible. We were hoping and praying that he would regain a sufficient strength so as to allow us to remove him from the hospital and continue your recommendations. Thus far, he has not gained that added strength. I have been successful in securing the cooperation of a splendid medical man and the neurologist who has specialized on the case is willing to cooperate, but the hospital authorities refuse permission to bring in the Wet Cell Appliance and give him a treatment. To them it is a measure which would endanger their rating with the American Medical Association. We are completely frustrated. It is impossible for him to live outside the lung and inside it, he must remain at the hospital and we are hampered in our approach.

“In your wide experience with medical science, is there anything which you can offer as a remedy? Do you think another reading would be in order? I pity this man from the bottom of my heart. He wants to live, if for no other reason than for his dear wife and little boy. It seems almost impossible that he must be thwarted in this manner.

“Please forgive me for imposing upon your kind nature, but believe me, I am coming to you because I have confidence in your ability to be of help…”

R3. 12/16/43 EC’s letter to Reverend Paul Wert: “I have yours of the 11th and I certainly do hope the suggestions given for Miss [3452] will prove to be of a real help. [See 3452-1.]

“As regarding Mr. [3270]‘s case, I don’t know that there is a thing that we can do, or offer even, as a suggestion just at the present time. Of course, if he was to get strength enough to be moved back home where he could use the Appliance, I believe you would find some help. But I know there is no such thing if the hospital authorities refuse permission. Of course, there are places where they can do it. But we can’t buck the Medical Association!

“Hoping things will improve; and I know you and Mr. [3270]‘s friends know where to go for real help, for we must get our own individual consciousness attuned to the Divine, before we can have help.

“Thank you, though, and with every good wish…”

R4. 1/1/44 Reverend Paul Wert’s letter to EC: “Your kind letter regarding Mr. [3270] has been received. I was very much of the same opinion before I wrote to you concerning the obstacles in our way. Yet we have not given up hope. We are not trying to be persistent but only cooperative. If there is any direction which is to come from the Good Lord we want to be attuned to His will. That is the attitude which Mr. [3270] takes.

“At the present time there is nothing to give us hope that with the methods we are using in the hospital he will regain sufficient strength to take him home. In fact, he can no longer be without the artificial respirator long enough to receive his daily attention. It would be impossible to apply external treatment under the circumstances. The authorities are allowing us to use the Atomidine; that he is taking regularly as you prescribed.

“He has asked me to write to you for a Check reading to discover whether there is something which might be done by way of oral treatment. Consequently I am enclosing the application together with the requisite check asking you for your kind consideration. Our faith in the Eternal is fixed under any circumstances, but we have no knowledge of where else to go to help us find specific directions from the Good Lord except to your very special and divinely endowed ability. Of course, you realize that if there is anything to be received by a Check reading, it will have to be almost immediately. These are the questions he is asking: What can be done to give the body renewed strength sufficiently to remove it from the artificial respirator?

“Your patience and kindness with us will be more than appreciated. I trust I shall hear from you at once…”

R5. 1/8/44 Reverend Paul Wert’s letter [letter also enclosed application for another member of his congregation]: “I trust you will not look upon the applications which come to you under my recommendation with disfavor. I have not solicited any of these cases. True, it is after I had knowledge of you and your work I spoke publicly about it. For instance: I mentioned your work several times from my pulpit. Quite a few of the people have made inquiries concerning your book, THERE IS A RIVER. These people in turn have spoken to their friends. They, in turn, have come to me and spoken to me about it. I have definitely tried to discourage an overwhelming acceptance of your kind offers unless I had good reason to believe that the people were really in earnest…”

B1. 9/27/43 Reverend Paul Wert’s letter to EC: “Pursuant to our telephone conversation of Sunday afternoon, September 26, I will appreciate the data and materials about which you spoke. I am also very thankful to you for reserving the earliest date in December for a possible reading for the gentleman about whom I spoke.

“To us the case is an extreme emergency. The man’s name is [3270]. He is married and has a little boy five years of age. I think Mr. [3270] is about forty years of age. Fourteen months ago he was a perfectly healthy man. He always lived a very careful and a clean life. For some reason he began with a progressive atrophy of the muscles. First he lost the complete use of his thumb. The disease travelled rapidly, affecting first his arms, then his legs, and has now reached the chest muscles. He is completely helpless. He has travelled to Philadelphia to the best nerve specialists of whom he could get information. The disease is rare, and the doctors have not discovered a cure as yet. There is some underlying cause which, if it were known, would surely help us to apply the correct remedy.

“Mr. [3270] and I learned of your wonderful work through the CORONET magazine, and a blind man in our city who knows something about your work. He gave us two of your pamphlets describing the work you have been doing and the efforts of the Association for Research and Enlightenment. As soon as I read the materials I encouraged Mr. [3270], for I can quite readily accept the validity of your resource. Mr. [3270] is of equal faith. His case is attracting wide attention and friends everywhere are earnestly desirous of his recovery. I have confidence that were he to recover he would not change his present devotion to God and a humble trust in His wisdom.

“I am sure you would want no other reason on our part for his recovery than a pure and an unselfish one. He has always had a keen sense of responsibility to other people’s needs and through this illness is more desirous than ever to recover so that he can minister in a way that he never did before…

“The prayers of the people are with him. Among us who know that he is appealing to you for aid, our sincere prayer is that you will not say him nay. We are quite positive you can help him. Our only fear is that his strength might not hold out long enough until you will see him. Anything you do to give him assistance will project a long line of new hope and confidence…”
