This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 10th day of October, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3275], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 11:25 to 11:40 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Wisconsin.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes - behold he prayeth.

3. We have the body here, [3275].

4. As we find, there are disturbing conditions that are preventing the better physical forces in this body and that are causing a gradual dissolution or atrophy of nerves and muscles of the lower limbs.

5. We find that these may be materially aided, if there is kept first the correct attitude. For, as these conditions are partially karmic, with the correct attitude, in grace much may be accomplished.

6. Do not promise self nor Maker more than ye fulfill, but as ye measure out, so may it be measured to you.

7. Here we find there is a condition, in regard to the manner in which the liver has acted and is acting, that causes the lack of ability of the glands to reproduce the plastic forces in the nerve and muscular tendons in the lower extremities. Not completely as yet, but these have gradually grown, and will continue - until there are those measures taken, first to check conditions and then to rejuvenate and rebuild those portions of the body forces themselves.

8. Circulation will then be reestablished, nerve flow and energies from all the centers through which the associations and connections between cerebrospinal and sympathetic nerves receive their impulses, must be rejuvenated, revivified.

9. This, then, will require long, patient and persistent application. But, after a period of three to four months at the earliest, we should begin to see the staying and then the building up of better forces for the body - if first the correct attitude is kept and then the consistent application of those things necessary.

10. For, we will find, there will be changes gradually brought about, also as these responses are made, there must be changes in the applications for the betterment of the body.

11. First, then, in the beginning of the applications:

12. Use the Castor Oil Packs over the liver and gall duct area for one hour each day for three days in succession each week. On the evening of the third day each week, following the third Pack, take internally a tablespoonful of Olive Oil. Keep this up consistently for a period of at least three to four months. Use the Packs the same three days each week. Use at least three thicknesses of flannel (old flannel preferably) soaked in Castor Oil. Apply to the body over the liver and extend to the caecum area, then put an electric pad over same to keep warm for one hour.

13. Once each week - not on a day when the Packs are applied - also massage the body, especially from the 9th dorsal downward along the spine, and then along the limbs (after these areas have been thoroughly relaxed by the application of hot cloths) with this combination of oils:

Nujol or Usoline, as the base…6 ounces, Olive Oil…1 1/2 ounces, Oil of Pine Needles…1 ounce, Oil of Sassafras Root…1/2 ounce, Oil of Peanuts…2 ounces, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/2 ounce.

These will tend to separate, but when ready to use, shake together, pour in a saucer, dip the fingers in same and apply to the body. The relaxing would be done by using towels wrung out of hot water, applied over the spine and around the limbs for ten to fifteen minutes, just before the massage is to be given. Let the massage be not too deep, but to stimulate the circulation.

14. After the complete series of the Castor Oil Packs (that is, three to four months) and the weekly massage as indicated, - we would then begin with the use of the Wet Cell Appliance. This should be made regular strength, that is:

Copper Sulphate… 1 1/2 pounds, Sulfuric Acid C.P…1 ounce, Zinc…3 drams. DO NOT USE CHARCOAL IN THIS SPECIAL SOLUTION.

This Appliance would carry to the body vibratorially one day Chloride of Gold (in the proportions of 1 grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water), the next day Spirits of Camphor (commercial strength).

15. Each day the Appliance would be attached for thirty minutes.

16. When using the Gold Solution, the larger plate - that passes through the Solution - would be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct center, which - on this body - will be four fingers from the navel to the right and three fingers up from that point. The copper plate would be attached to the lower portion of the 9th dorsal center, or between the 9th and the 10th.

17. The next day, when using the Camphor Solution, the larger plate would be attached the same way - to the umbilical and lacteal duct center, but the smaller plate would be attached to the lumbar axis, or the lower portion of the 4th lumbar.

18. Have different connections for these solutions. Change each Solution after it has been used fifteen times. Change the charging solution for the battery every thirty days.

19. Keep up the massages when the Appliance is begun.

20. Do these, and in six to eight months we will give further instructions.

21. Ready for questions.

22. (Q) Is my trouble traumatic or pathological in origin? (A) Pathological and karmic.

23. (Q) What can be done for the spastic sphincter on my bladder? (A) The massages should aid this.

24. (Q) Osteopaths tell me I have a hyper-mobile sacroiliac. Can that be made flexible by wearing a belt? (A) The type of massages indicated should aid this condition. When the body is very active it would be well to wear the belt.

25. (Q) What should be done for pain in sacroiliac joints? (A) This will begin to be much better, especially after the beginning of the low electrical forces.

26. (Q) What causes this pain? (A) Pressure.

Do these things and then in eight months we will give further instructions.

R1. 1/3/44 [3275]‘s letter to EC: “You undoubtedly have many readings of multiple sclerosis like mine. I would appreciate very much your giving me the name and address of some of these people that have completed the treatment, as I would like to get in touch with them. I have been taking the treatment for 24 months…”

R2. 1/26/44 He repeated the request.

R3. 2/5/44 GD’s letter to Mr. [3275]: “Your letter of January 26th is before me. During the past two years, I am quite sure we have had readings on at least 25 cases of multiple sclerosis, for during that time we have been trying to index specific diseases so as to be able to find them. Prior to that many readings were no doubt given on that type of condition, but we did not ask for a history of the individual’s ailment and, therefore, nine times out of ten, there is no indication in the person’s correspondence as to the name of his disease. As you perhaps know, the readings rarely name a disease - they merely give the cause, sometimes the symptoms, and always the prognosis (which is mostly dependent on what the individual does about following the treatment outlined, but the reading tells what to expect IF treatment is followed).

“So: all this prelude is to explain WHY I cannot tell you the names of the people who have been helped. I can give you the names of some people who are now following treatment, and many names of people who stopped the treatment after a few months - not being willing to stick to it without ‘evidence of things not seen.’

“I am sending herewith extracts regarding several cases, which will give you a picture of the general outlook according to the readings. It seems that almost every time there is a karmic tieup requiring mental and spiritual stick-to-it-ive-ness, as well as the material applications. Perhaps that is why in each case there is such a long-drawn-out treatment. Only those who are faithful in meeting that needed may attain the results. A great deal of faith is required as well as ‘works.’

“Now, in arthritic conditions I could give you the names of several people who have been completely cured. One of the very worst cases we had was completely cured, but the treatment was followed day in and day out over a period of three years. No change was seen at all for the first six months, but they persisted - it was the only hope they had, you see, and they held to it.

“But, regarding multiple sclerosis, I’d like to give you the names of the following people who are now following treatment outlined in the readings:

“Mr. [3310] of …, Florida. (On looking up his file, I find that his condition is termed Parkinson’s Disease, but I understand it is very similar - and the treatments outlined in the readings for Parkinson and multiple sclerosis are much the same; Mr. [3124], Gould Farm, Great Barrington, Mass. (Attention Miss Sarah Robertson, Nurse.); Mr. [3218] of …, Conn.; Miss [3151]; Mrs. [3186] of …, Wisconsin; Mr. [1623] of …, Conn. (See first case on enclosed collection of extracts.)

“Mr. [3275], I certainly hope this information is something along the line that you wish to have. I apologize for the delay in answering you. Things are so piled up for me that I can’t decide half the time which should come first. I do pray that you will continue your treatments, at least for the period of the eight month series when the Check reading should indicate the changes taking place from within, even if outward changes or improvements are not so noticeable.

“As the readings so often intimate, especially in partially-karmic conditions, it is the process of getting well that is the great opportunity for the individual to meet that necessary mentally and spiritually; for if one were healed very quickly there would not be the opportunity for the needed spiritual awakening - or the lessons to be learned through the process of being healed.

“With kindest regards and best wishes, assuring you of our appreciation of your interest…”

R4. 2/10/44 [3275]‘s note to Mr. A. M. Godfrey: “Please send that vibratory machine ordered today by air express collect.”

R5. 2/25/44 Mr. [849] wrote that Mr. [3275] had sent him a chair which “seems to support my back and give me much better posture.”

R6. 3/11/44 [3275]‘s letter: “For the past two weeks I have been trying to get some information on the application of that vibratory machine that you recommended for me in Norfolk. This week I wired them to find out how it was supposed to work because I have it hooked up exactly according to his directions. I am applying it for thirty minutes each day, but I still can feel no action. Certainly there should be some heat or vibratory effects that would be noticeable. I cannot understand his failure to reply to my wire.

“Personally, I think you ought to have another system for distributing mechanical devices like this because he is getting 25.00 for a device that I would like to make and sell for 6.00.

“I would very much appreciate your letting me have some information on what tangible effect we should see from the use of this Wet Cell Device. Certainly there should be some heat or vibratory effect noticeable…”

R7. 3/17/44 EC’s letter to [3275]: “I have your letter of the 11th, and note what you have to say about the little vibratory machine that was recommended for you, that is put together by our friend in Norfolk.

“I wish it were possible for us to arrange to have these machines built in a manner and way that doesn’t appear so crude and rough. We have, through the years, had a great deal of trouble in getting these prepared properly. They have been in the hands of a great many different individuals and many of them have been rejected by the information.

“Many have been the questions as to the price, and yet, I am sure if you could arrange so as to do the work or have it done and sell it for anything as little even as 25.00, we would be most happy to arrange it, because I doubt if you have really considered what it takes to get the things together even for this little Appliance. You can't do it for 20.00, or we have never been able to at least, and we have tried it through many men who have said the same as you, that they would want to sell it for 5.00 or 6.00, but you can’t get the material together, even at the best times.

“The information has been proving these now for more than thirty years. Through that time there have been possibly one hundred people or nearly so at least, who have tried to build these Appliances. Many of them gave it up because there was nothing in it for them; many gave it up because they were not really sincere in trying to build them.

“As for the vibration that you should receive from the Appliance itself, it is a very low form of electrical treatment, and is not felt by one out of a hundred who takes, and yet I dare say, that seven out of every ten that use it consistently and persistently exactly as the information suggests, get results. Those who get the idea that it should knock them down or make them sick, or this or the other, don’t get anything. It is not that it is active wholly on faith, but that has been experienced by those who have really taken the time to test the work of the machine where it is indicated that certain elements should be carried into the system. They will find by test before it is used there isn’t existent in the body these elements, and after it has been used, they will find them in the body. Whether it sends it directly, and manufactures it with the digestive forces of the body, I don’t know. I can only tell you what the information says and what has been the experience of individuals who have used same.

“I do hope that you will get results. I am sure you will not if you are of the opinion that somebody is ‘gypping’ you on the price or that the machine should do certain things when you yourself don’t feel it at all.

“I appreciate your interest and your sincerity of purpose.

“Do write me fully if there is anything that we can do…”

R8. 3/20/44 [3275]‘s letter to EC: “Thank you for your letter of March 17th. The thing that burned me was the fact that I wired this fellow in Norfolk for some information and, as yet, do not have a reply to my wire. I have been using it just exactly as instructed, and only the other day I checked the gold bottle and found that it has gone down so I must be getting something. I took the hot oil applications for four and a half months because I did not get the vibratory machine in time, but started directly after the four months. I have followed all the instructions in the reading. Of course, this vibratory machine is very simple to use, but of course, it does mean that I have to stay at home. It is not readily transportable.

“I had hoped to get out to Virginia before the Congress because I made a reservation for a room at the Essex House but question very much now whether I will be able to do this. I will make an active effort to see you just as soon as possible and will inform the Association of any changes noticed.

“I hope you enjoyed your vacation and are taking care of yourself.
