This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 15th day of October, 1943, in accordance with request made by the parents - Mr. and Mrs. […], through new Associate Membership in the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mr. David E. Kahn.

Time of Reading 11:15 to 11:35 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, Illinois.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3289].

3. In analyzing the disturbances that exist here, many phases of experience of an entity must be considered. Some might say why should an entity - as this - suffer, as it is indicated in the experience of this entity, where the continued infection undermines the activities of the body in its organic reactions? And must eventually, unless changed - undermine the mental as well as make the body useless in this material experience?

4. Know that each soul meets its own self. This might be the more thoroughly interpreted in the experience of the entity in its associations in the present, for, those responsible for the entity are meeting themselves also.

5. For, who healeth thy diseases? Who giveth life? Who giveth understanding?

6. The Lord, He is God! He giveth life, He taketh it away. Who may question Him?

7. In the physical forces of this body we find there are disturbances that are undermining the physical being of the body, that must incapacitate its activities unless arrested to the extent that they will no more return to torment, as it were, this entity.

8. Then, more may be accomplished in prayer than in medication.

More in purposefulness of being to others may there come help to this entity, to those that love, that would cherish the entity. ALL must acknowledge His power, His authority. Not in words, but in deeds. For, what one says is little. For, what one IS speaks so loud, what is said means little.

9. To those same applications that have been made, then, we would add these - that ye may see a fulfilling of the purposes, when ye make thyselves right. The healing may be found in making and preparing a tonic from Plantain, adding to same sufficient alcohol as a preservative to prevent its souring. It would be prepared in these proportions:

10. Add one pound (by weight) of Plantain to one and a half gallons of distilled water. Boil - not hard boiling but steeping, boiling slowly, simmering, until reduced to one gallon. Then strain and add sufficient alcohol to preserve same. (Use only an enamel or glass container in preparing this compound - nothing metal.)

11. The dose - with the other properties being given would be one teaspoonful twice each day. This will allay the temperature and the infection in the body.

12. Do that.

13. Then, in body, in mind, in spirit, live that you would have and ask of Him to give concerning this body.

14. Ready for questions.

15. (Q) How and why does the infection reoccur immediately upon discontinuing medication, even after cultured specimens are negative for long periods of time? (A) This is not reaching the source. Hence the reason why - with the medication given - there should be added those properties indicated here, which - with prayer, not just by words but living - will bring the relief.

16. (Q) Should the Plantain be green or dry? (A) Green, to be sure.

17. (Q) What should be done to stop her wetting herself? Is this a habit or is it caused by irritation? (A) Caused by irritation. For, as just indicated, this is the indication of the disintegration, the effect of the functionings of organs in the system, or the inability to control same.

With the corrections of the cause, or the staying of the infection and irritation produced upon the sympathetic nerve system (which is the control between the activities of the organs; that is, the liver, kidneys and bladder), this can be controlled.

18. (Q) Can a special diet be beneficial in curing this infection; if so, what diet? (A) Not especially. A well-rounded, well-balanced diet should be kept.

19. (Q) Should she lead an active normal life or should her activities be curtailed? (A) Live as near an active, normal life as possible. Do not give any other impression. If you expect her to be different, how do you expect her to be different with training and developing an abnormal surrounding?

20. (Q) Is an operation necessary? (A) Not indicated in the present.

If we will do these things as given, we will see changes - but begin with selves - those responsible.

R2. 10/28/43 Father’s wire to EC: “THANKS FOR REPLY. QUESTIONS AS FOLLOWS 1. WHERE IS SOURCE OF INFECTION 2. HOW DOES ORGANISM ENTER URINARY TRACT 3. WHAT CAUSES IT TO SO ENTER THIS TRACT 4. IS MEDICINE NOW REACHING SEAT OF INFECTION 5. WHY DID SPECIMEN BECOME CLOUDY WHILE ON MEDICATION 6. WAS PLANTAIN BREWED PROPERLY AND IS DOSAGE CORRECT 7. WOULD ANY OTHER MEDICATION OR FORM OF TREATMENT BE BENEFICIAL AND IF SO WHAT”

R3. 10/28/43 Mother’s letter to EC: “I’m enclosing a record of [3289]‘s illness. When we were in Virginia Beach you asked us to send it.

“We are anxiously awaiting the report of the check reading and know we will find something helpful in it.

“Thank you again for your helpful cooperation…”

“Patient, age 7, supposedly has cystitis and pyelitis. In about February 1940 she had a gastrointestinal disturbance which consisted of repeated attacks of vomiting and diarrhea. These attacks continued intermittently every two or three weeks for about three months.

“X-ray pictures were negative. At about this same time she started wetting herself during the day. A doctor’s examination of her urine showed some pus cells. No medication was given. In August 1940 she had an acute attack of pyelitis; urine culture showed colon bacteria, temperature 105 degrees, treated with sulfanilamide. After about three weeks she was cured. Had no further symptoms either gastrointestinal or urinary. In January 1941 she complained of burning sensation on urination and headaches. Examination showed pus in urine and sulfanilamide was again given; urine cleared. In March 1941 she again repeated symptoms: pus, frequency of urination and was treated with mandelic acid and continued taking mandelic acid for a period of 30 days. After which period, she showed great amounts of blood in urine. The medication was immediately discontinued - result

• no blood. Patient was then taken to hospital. Complete x-ray pictures of the urinary tract were made (dye injected into vein), showed no malformation or anomalies [?]. Urine cultures were negative.

“The wetting continued consistently with headaches: After about a month, urine again showed pus and she was put on a sulfa preparation which did not clear the urine.

“In July 1941 she was put on a complete alkaline diet for about thirty days; no improvement in patient, frequency and urgency and burning increased, no relief from headaches or pus in the urine.

“About August 1, 1941, she was taken to Mayo’s Clinic. Urine culture showed colon bacillus and streptococcus fecatis [?]. She was given calcium mandelate and in four days urine culture was negative. All symptoms gone with exception of frequency. In two weeks medication was discontinued and four or five days thereafter urine again showed pus, headaches returned and cultures showed strept fecalis [?] whereupon mandelic acid was again given. In the middle of September 1941, a cystoscopic examination revealed trabeculation of the bladder and apparent tightening of sphincter muscle. Tests taken at that time also revealed residual urine and operation to relax muscle was suggested. After sphincterectomy operation she was apparently 100% okay; all symptoms having disappeared with exception of occasional blood cell and occasional pus cell. Small amounts of sulfathiazole [?] was given immediately after operation and continued until early part of December when all symptoms - headaches, wetting, etc. returned. Urine culture showed pus, strep fecatis [?]. Another cystoscopic examination revealed slight submucosal pustule [?] which was coderized [?]. Medication was changed to calcium mandelate. After two week period urine was again sterile, frequency continued. After discontinuing medicine for four or five days she again had all the symptoms back - headaches, pus strep fecatis [?]. Calcium mandelate was again given and continued up to the present time; patient remaining sterile ever since, the only remaining symptoms being continuous urgency and frequency. Tests were made intermittently subsequent to January 1942 by discontinuing medication two or three days - immediately following which all symptoms would return - pus, burning, headaches, strep fecatis [?] and colon bacillus.

“August 1942 cystoscopic examination showed no change in bladder, slight amount of pus coming from left kidney, no change in trabeculation. X-ray of urinary tract again revealed nothing. At this same time examination and tests of colon and bowel were made which were normal.

“Urine must remain acid at all times or infection returns immediately.”
