GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: (Not alone, but accompanied by many besides those visible to the physical eye.)
-
We have the body here.
-
As we find, those disturbances in the bronchials are of a reflex nature. Yet they have been so persistent, and so many applications have been given that would allay or aid the spasmodic reactions (so called) in the trachea and the bronchi, that we have open cells in portions of the lungs.
-
These, then are things to be met - something in self as well as in this particular physical being or body.
-
We would use, for this particular body, an inhalant that would be prepared as an aid to the walls of the lungs, the bronchi and trachea. Add these ingredients in the order named:
Pure Grain Alcohol (at least 90% proof)…4 ounces, Oil of Eucalyptol…20 minims, Rectified Oil of Turp…5 minims, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…15 minims, Tolu in Solution…20 minims, Rectified Creosote…2 minims.
-
The fumes from these ingredients are to be inhaled, not swallowed into the stomach but merely the fumes inhaled. Have the solution prepared in a bottle at least twice the size of the quantity of solution; so that two vents may go into the cork, neither of these extending into the solution but into the space above the solution. Keep these corked so that evaporation does not take place and reduce its strength too soon. Shake the solution when the fumes are to be inhaled, which should be three, four, five times a day, just one or two whiffs at the time. After shaking, remove both small corks, and through one of the vents inhale into the mouth, also through the nostril. Using this several times during the day, it will not stop the coughing or the reactions but it will allay.
-
Also we would have corrections made osteopathically; not merely corrections as of moving segments but including a massage so as to cause the activities of the sympathetic and the emunctory centers to coordinate, and not leave this spasmodic reaction of nerve energies to the areas. These will be from the 6th dorsal to the base of the brain. Ordinarily, the application is from the 1st cervical down. Here, begin at the 6th dorsal and - on either side of the spine - work up. And you won’t do it all in just two or three minutes. There should be given time for the corrections, as pressures are made in the various segments on either side, and include those areas at those segments especially of the 4th, 2nd and 1st dorsal, 3rd cervical, 2nd cervical and 5th cervical, and just about in the order given should there be the reaction to these to the nerve supply - that, of course, carries the reaction to the bronchial tubes of the trachea and the upper portion of the lungs. With any change of atmospheric pressures these change, - with even a little cold as from a draft, dampness of feet or some such, and bring on these paroxysms of asthmatic reactions. Hence do have these corrections.
-
In the matter of the diet, - do include leafy vegetables such as red cabbage, spinach, all forms of leafy greens - as mustard, lamb’s tongue, as dock, as poke - as this is very tender, but be careful how it is prepared. Put the tender poke leaves in plain water and allow to come almost to a boil, pour off the water or drain and then the leaves can be mixed with any other greens. The activity of these would be purifying, in such a way that will be found in few other such greens or vegetables.
-
Beware of rutabaga, but parsnips are very good. Fish, - preferably, for this body, NOT salt water fish but fresh fish.
-
Do occasionally take Atomidine internally. This means, - say, every Tuesday take one drop of Atomidine in half a glass of water before the morning meal. That same day when this is taken, it will appear that the conditions are worse - because of the extra reaction through the thyroids. But with the inhalant and with the osteopathic corrections we may bring better conditions for this body.
-
For the next six to eight months, do keep in the present climate. When these conditions have been allayed until there is not more than one return of these paroxysms, the body may venture out - but where there are pines and sand and sea should be the better environment for the body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is there an organic condition exists that creates this asthmatic condition? (A) Naturally such paroxysms cause a strain on the heart, as well as causing - from those things given - poor eliminations and slow activity of the liver and the kidneys. But these are not organically affected; though they are sympathetically or reflexly involved. With the type of applications carried forward as suggested here, these should gradually adjust themselves.
Do keep good eliminations, even a little excessive. The vegetables or the character of vegetables indicated should aid in this.
- We are through with this reading.
Two copies to Husband - (one for the osteopath - Please let us have the name of the one you choose.) Copy to Ass’n file ” ” Miss Good all for indexing

B1. 9/3/43 Husband’s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have just finished reading the article in the September Coronet magazine about you and your wonderful work. I can not wait to get a letter to you with the hopes of receiving help on my problem.
My wife is a severe ASTHMATIC and because of her illness has to live in Tucson, Arizona. No doctor as yet has been able to find the seat of her trouble, and she has been to many.
Over a period of time trying to fight this we have had to give up our home in Philadelphia and now we are to a point where we don’t know what to do next.
We are very devoted, love our daughter eleven, and because of this we three are separated. Mrs. [3331] is not able to care for the child, I transferred to Texas with the hope she could live here, which she can’t. So I would do anything, first to relieve her terrible suffering, secondly enabling we three to be together again in our own home.
B2. 9/16/43 Husband’s ltr. to EC:
Mr. Edgar Cayce, Association For Research and Enlightenment, Inc., Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
This acknowledges your letter of the 8th. in reply to mine of the 3rd for which I thank you very much. Today I received the booklet which I have read most carefully and with great interest.
It is very disappointing to learn that it will be eleven months before an appointment can be granted. I am afraid Mr. Cayce that this will be too late. Yet I feel I have no right to ask that I be placed in ahead of some one that I am sure needs your help equally as much as I.
For some time I have had a feeling that such a person as your self would be where we would find help. Something in my mind has seemed to tell me this yet I could never have the feeling of just who or where I could obtain this help. I have even gone so far as to go to the Science Church and where I did not practice their beliefs I never felt this was the answer. I believe when the right thing strikes you you just know that this is the thing. Without knowing anything about you other than the article I read in Coronet I somehow felt that you were the one I should write to for advice and this is the reason for my letter. And then after going over you booklet I am even more convinced that the work you are doing is wonderful.
My wife’s health and life is very important to me Mr. Cayce as we are so devoted to each other. This trouble has been with us for over two years and we have done everything medical science has suggested with but little success. No medication in the east ever helped her and the only thing to date that has kept her alive is the climate in Arizona. She has a severe case of Bronchial Asthma and has drug her down to where everything that comes along she gets it in its most sever form.
Spiritually she is a fine person Mr. Cayce, never a bad thought in her head. She tries to help other people in her way and has done much to please her friends etc.
Because of this we have had to give up our home and are separated, she in Tucson, our daughter in a boarding school, and I am in Texas so that I can earn the money to meet these expenses. We would give anything to be together the three of us. I came to Texas, giving up my business in Philadelphia so that I would not be too far from her and is possible for me to see her every few months.
The doctors have gone as far as they can go and with her condition as it is she cannot continue on this way. I therefore come to you praying that some how you can help us. It frightens me to think that I cannot have your help at once.
It is so easy to make promises and at this time I have no right to do so. I am the only one within myself to know what I will do and God above knows. I have just this to say now, I want to be a member of your Association and contribute to its cause even though I should never receive any personal benefits in the Physical Reading I am asking. From your booklet I know you are doing wonderful work and people are receiving benefits and I wish to contribute to their cause.
This trouble has taught us many lessons, one of which, that which is yours does not belong only to you. I wish to share everything I have for the aid of those that have suffered such trials as we.
If it becomes possible for you to help us at this time will you wire me Mr. Cayce at my expense and your advice will be followed to the letter. Should you desire any further information will you wire me for same so I can get this right back to you. I know I seem extremely anxious but we have so little time.
Thank you so very kindly for your early reply and your booklet. If need be I can come to Virginia Beach immediately. It would be impossible to move Mrs. [3331] from Arizona in her present condition, so she could not come.
I send my best wishes, […]
