GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Has been a very lovely person!
-
We have the body and those physical disturbances about the body.
-
In these conditions we find there have been times, through periods of the life experiences, when the entity has overtaxed itself; especially through the beginnings of the menopause, when taxation and exposure made for congestions in the superficial circulation. These have caused at times the chilly sensations or congestion in the emunctory patches through the body, as in the extremities and over various portions of the body.
-
These not coordinating, then, with the general lymph circulation have caused varied forms of toxic or dross conditions, used energies, to not be eliminated from the body. With the changing in glandular secretions and activities, there have come periods of general debilitation; not in the mental abilities of the body but physical debilitations, causing reflexes of a neuritic, arthritic nature - as in hands and feet and lower limbs at times. These become quite painful, and at other times are just heaviness, aching in those portions of the body.
-
We find there should be taken systematically the hydrotherapy treatments, each including a Fume Bath with witchhazel using at least two teaspoonsful of witchhazel in a pint of water boiling in the Cabinet. Follow this with a thorough massage, in a rotary motion rather than pulling or beating, as to produce a real stimulation to the whole circulation - especially those centers where the emunctories and the lymph circulation coordinate with cerebrospinal, as well as where these are active forces through the torso and trunk portion of the body - just below the breast bone or the upper portion of this - just below the clavicle and through the whole area of the diaphragm, and then just above the pubic center. Also massage on either side of the hips, at the coordinating centers of the lymph circulation with the sciatic centers in the back portion of the hips and especially throughout the sacral. Have such a massage using this combination of oils, adding these in the order named:
Usoline or Nujol…6 ounces, Olive Oil…1 ounce, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Oil of Pine Needles…1/2 ounce, Lanolin (liquified)…1/2 ounce.
-
Give these treatments at least once a week until six to ten have been taken. Then leave these off for a while and then begin all over again.
-
Through these periods have good eliminations with the active principles of the diet. Plenty of figs, prunes, oatmeal. These should be a part of the diet. Citrus fruit juices, but never take these at the same meal that cereals of any kind are taken. Do not take too much meats, but fish and soups, broths, plenty of those - even though they may be made from fowl, lamb or beef. But there should not be too much meats for this body.
-
If we will do these, we will make for much better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is there anything to do for the trembling and ringing in ears? (A) All of these things that we have indicated you are doing for this. For, as indicated, this is the lack of the lymph circulation, caused by congestion of the emunctory patches through portions of the body centers.
-
(Q) What is the bone condition of left thigh? (A) While not entirely knitted properly, the elimination set up and the massages - especially as indicted for those portions of both thighs - will aid in making conditions much better.
-
(Q) Should there be an operation for intestinal adhesions just below ribs? (A) There should not be, until after at least three to four series of these other treatments have been given. For these should enable these adhesions to be broken up, if the oils are used properly - especially over the diaphragm and lower abdominal area.
-
(Q) What is the large lump in my chest? (A) A glandular condition or a secretion of lymph that, with emunctory patches, has just accumulated. This should be dissipated. Do not bruise but dissipate, with the gentle massage and the oils.
-
(Q) The chin stays wet all the time is there anything I can do for this? (A) This is just a part of the poor circulation. Use the massages and the Fume Baths. After the second or third series, the condition should be much better.
-
(Q) Is there anything to improve scar tissue on fingers? (A) The use of Camphorated Oil will improve these conditions if consistently used from day to day.
-
(Q) What should be done for gums and health of teeth? (A) Preferably use an equal combination of soda and salt as a massage, and then rinse the mouth with an alkaline antiseptic such as Glyco-Thymoline or Lavoris.
-
(Q) How can I keep my body free from colds? (A) Keep the body equally alkalized, or do all the things indicated and we will find betterment.

B1. 6/21/43 [3334]‘s letter:
My Dear Mr. Cayce:
I have just finished reading with most intense interest, your life story by Mr. Sugrue. I have been greatly interested in psychic phenomena for some years and have already passed beyond all doubts of clairvoyance as a reality. To diagnose and prescribe for illness, as you do, seems to me a wonderful and logical use of the power of clairvoyance. And so may I please put in my name for a reading?
I am fifty-one and have had a life of illness and setbacks, always searching for health. About fifteen years ago Dr. Hay’s book and the help of a physician who believes in diet, put me on my feet, after years of invalidism, caused chiefly from auto-intoxication due to a repressed liver and generally slow bodily reactions.
Five years of dieting had me well on the way to recovery from the ill effects of my many years of wrong living - and then the menopause hit. I went down to death’s door with complete nervous breakdown, but made a “phenomenal recovery” due chiefly to my understanding of diet.
Since then life has been a struggle to keep going; so far I have just about managed to keep afloat.
Two years ago I had a bad setback when I was given a shot in the leg and the needle penetrated the covering of the bone, depositing the dose in this covering instead of in the bloodstream. The whole pelvic region and the glands of the spine were badly burned over a period of weeks as the fluid spread slowly instead of being distributed quickly thru the whole system, and on top of that the osteopath treated my burning spine, and I have never fully recovered, tho I am very active as far as my strength allows. I am a practical nurse and love my work, but am always hampered by lack of endurance. My vitality is good, but there are so many inner drains upon it.
One of my chief troubles is a bad spot in the intestines in the left side, which was greatly aggravated by the accident with the hypodermic. I surmise from the sensations that the bowel is stiffened and full of adhesions and works with continual difficulty which drains the blood and energy from the rest of my body. When that bowel begins to twitch people can actually see the blood drain from my face and I can feel the energy drain from my brain. My doctor says “no” to an operation, tho admitting he might advise it sometime - I presume if I were dying. He says that now I would regret it only once and that would be all the time.
X-rays show and arthritic condition of the spine and I have a malformed vertebra, but I am told that this does not matter, as only the spine of the vertebra is missing and the inner part that holds the cord is all right. But there is a very bad spot in the spine at the lower edge of the waistline, which was greatly aggravated by the accident two years ago and the breakdowns that followed. Heat applied to the spine at night is the best I have been able to do for it - only when I am tired. I also use a heating pad on the bad side and the left hip when it’s especially sore.
I have a calcified lump in my chest which has been there for nearly thirty years and may be tubercular, but gives me very little trouble.
I have also badly receding gums which has not yet developed into pyorrhea, but I fear for the future.
More than anything else in this world I want the fullest degree of health I can get from my body. I still adhere to a pretty good diet of plenty of citrus fruit, cooked vegetables and meat at noon, and a raw salad at night. I have taken vitamins, but last winter they began to overstimulate and I had to stop.
I have at various times taken many, many osteopathic treatments but found them only palliative and not constructive for any permanent improvement, and with the arthritic condition I am advised to have no adjustments made - by the osteopath as well the Xray doctor.
Your guidance would be of great help and encouragement to me, and if you will tell me how to best care for my body I will do my best to carry out your instructions.
Yours sincerely and hopefully, [3334]

…, Pa. near Phila.
My Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I have changed my address, permanently, to the above address in … near Philadelphia. I will be here at the time of the appointment for my reading on Wednesday, November 3rd, at 10.30, but I have just realized that that is the morning that the doctor always comes to see my patient, and as I am the nurse in charge I cannot stay in my room when the doctor is here. He is uncertain as to time and is usually just around eleven thirty but may come any time from ten thirty to one. He usually makes a very short visit, however, seldom staying more than ten or fifteen minutes, but if he should come during the reading, would it be very disturbing? If you think it wiser, would it be possible to exchange my time with some one else, to any other day but Wednesday or Sunday? I am always free in the afternoons, except Sunday, from 1.30 till 4.30. Will you advise me what you think best?
My list of questions is as follows:
I am interested most in keeping up my general health. My liver and nerves have always been my chief trouble. I follow Dr. Hay’s diet of not mixing proteins and starches, and eat a raw salad every day, and plenty of fruit. So I do the best I can for myself with diet. Until the menopause, eight years ago, I did very well without a doctor. At that time, however, I had a complete break, and after a partial recovery and an operation for a tumor of the uterus, I again got along without a doctor until a few years ago, when a recurrence of menopause trouble drove me again to a doctor’s office. This led to a serious accident when an assistant gave me a shot of estrone and put the needle in too far. The dose went into the covering of the bone and instead of spreading quickly thru the blood stream, stayed and spread slowly for weeks, injuring the whole pelvic region and the glands of the spine. Every nerve in my body was affected and all my weaknesses increased, and since then - two years ago - I have had an inner trembling and a ringing in my ears that has never ceased.
At present this trembling is rather bad, since I overworked during the last few months and have lost weight. I am slowly gaining back the weight, and my heart does not pound so much, now, but is there anything to do for this trembling?
X-rays taken at the time of the accident showed an arthritic spine of which I had not been aware, tho I have had arthritis in my right hand, from a thumb injury, ever since the menopause. At present the hand and spine are doing remarkably well, but is there anything I can do to ward off future trouble?
The left thigh was also X-rayed at the time of the accident and here the doctor discovered a bone irregularity that was of several years standing and might even indicate cancer, but I never have had any trouble there and have only general trouble in the whole leg now, since the accident. Can you tell me what this bone condition is?
The whole left side, which was hurt most by the accident, was already my weakest side, due to intestinal adhesions just below the ribs, that have caused soreness for the last fifteen years. Dr. Eugene Underhill of Philadelphia says however no operation. Is he right? There is another trouble of longer standing - a lump in my chest as large as a baseball. It has been diagnosed as a walled-off T.B. infection by some doctors and as a tumor by others. Can you tell me what it is? It has been there twenty five years and does not seem to get any worse.
There are several minor troubles - an injured sweat gland in my chin that is dreadfully annoying in summer, when my chin stays wet all the time. Is there anything I can do for this?
A finger on my left hand was injured, but works remarkably well. Is there anything to do to improve the scar tissue?
My gums have been receding, apparently for the last twenty years, but still hold on. Is there anything I can do to keep the health of my teeth?
I have been subject to colds all my life, but since improving my diet, have helped this greatly. However I still have four or five colds a year, which seem to come or go entirely according to internal conditions and not at all according to anything I eat or anything I do. Is there anything I can do to help my body keep free from colds?
Since a breakdown last December (from overwork) I seem unable to take any vitamins or medication of any kind. My body seems to resent ANYTHING I take. The ringing in my head gets worse and I don’t sleep. Before that I was taking vitamins and menopause pills and liver medication with apparently good results. Even the estrone had seemed definitely beneficial until the accident. Now I still have mild menopause symptoms
- burning and cramping in the muscles, flushes, etc., but dare not take any medicine.
I am doing remarkably well considering the hard summer I have just come thru, but having been so subject to breakdowns all my life, I feel horribly uncertain. Just the other day a sudden rheumatic pain settled in my neck and shoulders and has been slowly wearing off ever since. Is there anything I can do to avoid such attacks?
I used to take occasionally douches with Lorate when I was excessively bothered with itching and burning, but Dr. Underhill objected to douches of any kind and at present I use only vaseline for relief. The burning seems to come in sudden spells, sometimes lasting only ten or fifteen minutes, but intense while it lasts. Is there anything I can do for this?
My most recent alarm is the discovery of a very small lump
- about a fourth the size of a pea - in the back of my right hip. I was first aware of it last summer and once when I was very tired and rheumatic it got very sore. There is also a much smaller lump, on my right arm near the elbow, which itches at times. Should I not have these removed?
I have had such dreadful luck with doctors - that I am scared to go near one, but I think Dr. Elisha Kirk of 20 W. Baltimore Ave., in Media, Pa, could probably do the job.
This about covers my troubles, I think. Of course my legs are none too good, but I have supports for my arches and I guess that’s the most that can be done. Since the accident with the estrone I do not dare massage my legs or use the heat lamp. This used to help me greatly, but when I tried it last summer my legs ached horrible all night long. I fear the nerves were permanently injured.
My chief anxiety at present is to hold all my numerous ills in check. I’m getting along very well if nothing gets worse and if no one part of me gives way. I feel I need help yet do not dare go to my doctor, as anything he gives me seems to make me worse.
If you prescribe something for me that needs a doctor’s prescription, please send me the name of a doctor in or near Philadelphia who has worked with you, for I know of no one to whom I could go with your advice.
Also how soon do you think I should have another reading for recheck?
I think my nerves will be better and my heart will pound less as soon as I can gain back more weight. Would yeast help me gain?
I am anxious to make the most of what health I have during he difficult years ahead and will be so grateful for your help.
Very sincerely, [3334]

My Dear Mr. Cayce:-
I am writing this last minute note in hopes it will arrive before my reading on Wednesday. There is another tiny, persistent lump, in a very very bad place, right at the entrance of the vagina. I would think it had gone away, only to have it get sore again, & it is definitely still there after at least five weeks or longer. It does not seem to come to a head or get bad, and it does not go away.
What should I do about it?
Yours sincerely, [3334]
