This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 1st day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Hon. [3347], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born March 27, 1890, in Sheffield, England. Time of Reading 4:15 to 4:35 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, La.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. We are given the records here of that entity now known as or called [3347].

3. It would be well for many to study the experiences of this entity, not only through the earth’s planes but the application of the abilities of the entity in the present. For as we find the entity in his own manner is a manifestation of that which is good in the earth, and one that - with this present desire, the present prayers - is ready, if you will take him to be among his very own.

4. In giving the interpretations of the records here, these are not to aid the entity other than in the assurance to the entity to keep that faith which has prompted the entity in its dealings with its fellow man.

5. For, since those experiences in the present sojourn when the entity realized the needs for that assurance of being oft in the consciousness of Him who gave, “If ye love me ye will keep my commandments,” the entity has lived, the entity has been a blessing to many. May all of those that come under the direction of the entity’s sincere efforts heed those directions that may be given by this entity, [3347].

6. The astrological aspects here would mean very little. For, as oft indicated, no urge from any experience or any association surpasses the will of the entity.

7. Thus there have been periods when others, who might have many a questions mark put before or behind their names, have called the entity stubborn, hard-headed, superstitious, and many other names that do not carry with them that ideal or purpose indicated in this entity, [3347] in the present.

8. As to the appearances in the earth, we find that these have been quite varied in activity.

9. Before this the entity was closely associated in activities with one known as William Penn, and thus came into this land, thus there has been and is a feeling of this entity for the principles manifested or expressed in the declarations made by those individual groups when they began their efforts and activities among the natives of the new land. Not as the tenets of the brethren, or Quakers, as called oft, but the principle of freedom, the principle of worship, the principle of treating the brother as you would have the brother treat you, applied in every phase of individual associations. For the entity has learned the lesson well, “As ye would that men should do to you do ye even so to them.”

10. These were the principles in activities there. Then the name was David Rodgers. Then entity gained, and yet there was ever the desire that others come to the land. And innately and manifested in the present experience of the entity there is ever the feeling, the warning, the desiring that others whom the entity knows as friends, as foes, to enjoy, to experience something of that peace which is ofttimes found in self. These are innate. These are manifested.

11. In the present activities, then, just keep in that way ye have chosen, stressing more and more the first things first. Know thyself and thy relationships to thy Maker, and as ye do to others so will it be meted to thee. These stress in thy dealings as an official. These stress in thy dealings with thy fellow man, as a personal relationship. Keep in that way.

12. Before that the entity was in the Holy Land, when the Master walked in the earth. The entity was among those that were oft in the Master’s presence, yea one of those commissioned or sent out with the seventy.

13. The entity was then advanced in years, being among those elders sent out in the second period of activity.

14. Hence that feeling oft in the present for those that are sick, those that are bereaved, those that are distressed in mind or in purpose. The entity’s kindness of words, gentleness of speech, the entity’s very manner has brought quietude when others have failed.

15. The entity has oft belittled these abilities within self. Yes, of self they are naught. But in the doing, in the being of that which is ever in the Way, ye walk in the way even as He walked. Just being patient, just being kind, just showing brotherly love, ye manifest His love until He comes again. And ye may be sure ye will be among those who will meet Him in the Way.

16. The name then was Joel.

17. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land during those periods when there was the returning to the worship that had been established by the Priest.

18. The entity acted in the capacity as one to whom many people turned while the Priest was in banishment. And with the patience, with the fortitude of the individual, the entity equalled or even surpassed the authority manifested by Ra in that activity. For the entity entered then into the activity of carrying on the more gentle manner in which there was the showing of patience and persistence in dealing with those who were persuaded, or who were ordered by the King or the Priest, to offer themselves as the channels for the preparation of the new race.

19. For the entity then kept quietness, tenderness, those things that builded homes - when that phase of the activity, in the latter part of the Priest’s experience - brought the greater hope to the peoples of that day.

20. The name then was Larr.

21. As to the abilities of the entity in the present that to which it may attain and how:

22. Just keep thy face to the light, my son, and the shadows will fall far behind. Let that which has prompted thee guide thee in thy daily life. For as He sent thee into the earth among thy fellow men in the days of yore, so may ye in the present in thine own gentle manner direct others, by precept and by example, into the way of the Cross that leads home.

24. (Q) Are there any particular mental faculties or aptitudes that should be given special training? (A) The spoken word and the touch of the hand for those that are worried, those that are distressed, those that are ill.

25. (Q) What are the lessons to be learned from the past, and how should they be worked out in present day associations and relationships? (A) Just as indicated that in whatever position ye may occupy in the material plane you CAN be a messenger of hope from the Master, even Jesus the Christ.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Referring to your letter of 15th June intimating 1st November for a reading and mine of 18th accepting that date, as things are developing it is likely that I shall be travelling on that date or may possibly be in another country. Does this make any difference?

I have no special questions, except that it would be useful to hear if any particular mental faculties or aptitudes should be given special training and what are the lessons to be learned from the past, how they work out in present day associations and relationships. But with your long experience, you will be aware of the points most useful to be investigated.

Dear Sir,

In reply to your letter of 26th inst. I shall as mentioned in my letter of 21st be in my apartment … Avenue this city on 1st November at the time of the appointment. I think I mentioned in a previous letter the class of information that would be useful, namely tendency and trend of previous incarnations and of the present one; whether there are any faculties to which special attention should be paid for their development; any advice as to entering into touch with the Higher Self; and as to being useful to friends and to people generally. Any advice as to the inner purpose of my contacts with intimate friends would be useful.
