This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 4th day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the daughter - [3901], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Mrs. [3248].

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have these conditions that surround this body, [3349].

3. As we find here, while there may be some relief and the better use of the body, it will require long periods even for relief to say nothing of progress towards real corrective measures - where there has been such destruction of the nerve ends, as indicated in the lower limbs, as well as - now - through the arms or hands. If these corrective measures had been undertaken some time ago, these conditions might have been aided to bring activity again.

4. As we find, these arise from complications - the arthritic conditions as well as those produced by very high temperature at times through the body.

5. There will be required, then, long periods of daily massages with oil.

6. Taking those properties to set up glandular activity will aid to an extent, but these taken too long would be detrimental.

7. Begin, then, with taking Atomidine internally; two drops in half a glass of water each morning before breakfast for about three weeks.

8. Then (not before), after a rest period of two days, have an Epsom Salts Bath. Use at least thirty pounds of Epsom Salts to forty gallons of water - almost a saturated solution. Let this be luke warm, or just warm for the body and gradually increase it - the hot water. Have the massage of the lower limbs, the spine, the hands, while the body is in the Bath.

9. Afterwards rub down briskly and then apply this combination of oils, added in the order named:

Russian White Oil (Nujol or Usoline as the base)…4 ounces, Cedar Wood Oil…1 ounce, Olive Oil…1 ounce, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Sassafras Oil…1/2 ounce, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/4 ounce.

These will separate, but shake them together, and after each Epsom Salts Bath give the massage.

10. We would have at least two or three of such Epsom Salts Baths, about a day or so apart.

11. After that, begin giving daily massages with the oils along the sacral area, the lower limbs especially, knees and feet, and lower portion of the limbs.

12. When the daily oil rubs are begun, also begin using the Wet Cell Appliance regular strength, carrying for this body only gold (in the proportions of one grain to each ounce of distilled water). Attach this for thirty minutes each evening preferably, just before the rubs are taken. The rubs should follow this. Change the Gold Solution every fifteen days. Recharge the Appliance every thirty days.

13. The larger plate, through which the Gold Solution passes vibratorially, would be attached at the umbilical and lacteal duct plexus. The small plate would be attached at the 9th dorsal.

14. Do these, and these offer improvements and help for the body.

15. Keep the mental attitude toward Creative Forces within self. As the body is creative in its mental forces, if the periods when the Appliance is attached are used for meditation, the entity will find that the work may be better accomplished - if the attitudes of the body and mind are kept attuned also to Creative Forces.

17. (Q) Any advice regarding diet? (A) Plenty of raw vegetables, especially watercress. This not necessarily taken every day, but celery, lettuce, carrots and watercress should be often in the diet. If these are prepared once or twice a week with gelatin it will be preferable and more helpful. Otherwise, keep a normal diet, but stay away from too much sweets. Never any carbonated water nor too much starch.

18. (Q) When would it be necessary for a check reading? (A) When these treatments have been followed thoroughly for at least six to eight months, then we would give further instructions.

19. (Q) Will I be able to straighten out my knees so that walking would be possible? (A) This depends upon how persistent and consistent you are. If there is not too great a strain found from the two or three Baths, after six weeks take these again. But before these are taken, do have the two to three weeks of purifying the glands with the excesses of Atomidine in the system. However, take the Atomidine only in the manner indicated.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

The diagnosis came, and I consider it an excellent one. Thank you very much. My doctor advised me to ask you to check the Cedar Oil that was recommended for me as the Cedar Wood Oil, stated in the diagnosis is poisonous; but the Oil from the Cedar leaves is not and we wanted to be sure of this point before proceeding. Replying to yours of the 18th, am glad that you are pleased with the information. I think you will find that the cedar oil is the oil of the cedar, not the wood - that is poison oil, but the leaves. I believe you will find help if you follow the suggestions indicated.

R3. 11/27/43 Daughter [3091]‘s letter: “We are so pleased over my mother [3349]‘s diagnosis that I wish to obtain one also.”

R4. 12/26/43 [3248]‘s letter: Dear little [3349] sent us your diagnosis, from the Reading, and also the paper showing the need of the Wet Cell Appliance. She did not send the directions for making the Wet cell, however, but said she would if we wished her to do so. (Of course all the writing is done thru her daughter, God bless her.) [3349] asked us our advice as to the Epsom Salts baths recommended and we thought, with her, that until she can be moved without excruciating pain, she had better have hot Epsom Salts packs. Don’t you think we are right?

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Thank you so much for the marvelous Christmas Story. This is something I greatly treasure, and I know that what I think must be shared by all who are fortunate enough to receive a copy of it.

I have no application blank nevertheless am requesting a Life reading and enclosing the $20.00 therefore. Please use the data on my physical application.

I have received the Atomidine and am in the midst of the Atomidine purge. As the Epsom Salts baths taken in a bath tub are completely out of the question for me, I will have to compromise by using the Epsom Salts packs. Mr. Godfrey has mailed the appliance, and I will probably receive it shortly.

Please tell me how I may obtain data on readings that had been taken concerning spiritual and historical matters. Do you have any bound pamphlets on any definite subjects?

This work that you are doing is of very great interest to me, and I am very happy to be a member of the Association. The Atomidine purge was very satisfactory. It started my menstruation again - this had been dormant for several months, there was a lessening of pain in my body, and a generally toned up condition. This week I am having the Epsom Salts baths and the oil rubs. As the tub baths were impossible, we resorted to the use of hot towels. Next week the wet-cell appliance and massaging will be started.

While this physical treatment is being applied, I am consciously relaxing the different muscles, and I find the results very gratifying. I have every confidence in all of the work that is being done for me, and I feel the results will be satisfactory.

I am interested in Astrology and wonder if you have any readings along this line. I am sure that the horoscope has depths and meanings that I have never penetrated.

I am keeping my copy of “There Is A River” in circulation. I shall do anything within my scope to forward the glorious work.

R7. 1/18/44 EC’s reply to Mrs. [3248]: Yes, I think you are correct about Mrs. [3349] using the salts packs though we have felt many times if the person can have someone to handle them as they are put into the bath and a massage given at the time they are in the bath, it is much more effective. If this is impossible, then have the packs.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

Thank you very much for the pamphlets; I have enjoyed them greatly. One of these days I should like to become an active member. At least for the time being I can pass out my copy of “There Is A River”, and the pamphlets I receive to any who show an interest.

The physical reading naturally means a lot to me as I had to have assistance, but my real interest lies in the life and spiritual readings. I am so happy that you could give me a date for the Life reading.

Now for my report: I started the oil rubs and massaging and wet cell treatment the 20th of January. I have the massages twice a week and on the other days the oil is simply applied. Also I use the half hour period when I am having the wet cell treatment for meditation. I am very happy to report that my body is responding. The left arm and hand I can move several inches from my body. It is greatly encouraging to have this improvement. The Epsom Salts towel-baths took off all the old skin, and now my skin can help with the elimination.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

For the past five weeks I have been having the wet cell treatment. Also the daily oil rubs. It has never been clear in my mind just exactly the procedure regarding the rubs and massages as the reading used both terms so we have worked it out according to the following schedule: 2 massages a week and on the remaining days the oil was merely rubbed into the body. These two massages have been all I could take each week as the body is so sore after each one that I need the intervening time to recuperate. In another week the six weeks period will have elapsed, and I will begin the procedure over again starting with the Atomidine purge. To a casual observer I suppose no improvement would be indicated, but I am very well satisfied with the results obtained during this period. Eventually I will regain the use of my hands, but at present the amount of poisons stirred up through the massaging, has made it a very painful process. I also feel confident that my fingers will straighten as the hands and wrist joints have become more pliable. There is some improvement in the knees although slight. The feet and legs are still very much swollen. The response internally would possibly be greater than the outer, but I have no way of checking this. I am indeed grateful that my body is beginning to respond, and I have every reason to expect greater comfort and more activity. My masseuse read “There Is A River” after she had started work on me, and she is so interested that she has problems of her own she will take up with you. The doctor who has been on my case here has read my copy of “There Is A River”, and is deeply interested. It makes me very happy to report the response of these two individuals to your work because their interests lie in the healing profession. I feel I am very fortunate to have two people who will cooperate so fully with the Reading. It gives me happiness to pass this book around to others.

Reporting on my condition -

I’m just finishing the second Atomidine purge. This time the purge was accompanied by an elimination crisis which came on like a cold. For two weeks I coughed up mucous accompanied by high fevers. Will keep you posted.

Dear Mr. Cayce,

I wish to withdraw my request for both the Life and Spiritual Readings because they are not urgent at this time. I feel that, since the demand is so great and the supply necessarily limited, the ones who really need them should have them first.

I am in a position to know just what great help the readings are because both my daughter [3091] and I seriously needed your help, and we both are extremely grateful for the physical readings.

Please take fifteen dollars ($15.00) from the money I have sent you and make me an active member. The remaining twenty-five please return in a check made out to my daughter, [3091].

There is really nothing I have to report on my condition at this time, but I will gladly keep you informed for the sake of the records. I feel pretty well most of the time.

R16. 10/26/50 Report by Mrs. Jane Hanan, 1212 Dunsmuir, Los Angeles 35, Cal., to GD at Hdqtrs., Sec’ty of Theodore Heline:

Mrs. [3349] has been paralyzed for years from neck down, as a result of an auto wreck. I nursed her off and on before and after EC’s reading. When I was doing welfare work I was called in to see about her, and found that she was completely helpless, can only hold her head in one direction and her eyes are rolled back so that she only sees at an angle - the rest of her body completely paralyzed. Through physiotherapy I gave her treatments and was able to wash her hair which hadn’t been done for about a year. Her feet were scaly - big lumps of dead skin would come off as I massaged and worked with her.

An interesting piece of karma if there ever was one. She had been a Christian Scientist and her husband had no use for it. When the accident occurred he wanted expert medical attention and she was inwardly fighting against it; eventually she divorced her husband so she could be free to follow her religion, etc. Her condition got worse and worse, until she became completely helpless. The husband, having to support her anyway and being hard up financially, arranged for her to be brought back into his home - they had two children - a young girl in her teens [3901] and a younger boy. The husband secured a practical nurse to act as housekeeper and look after [3349]. After a few years of this, [3349], recognizing that her ex-husband and the nurse were in love, suggested that they marry. This they did and the second wife is a saint if there ever was one; she tends to [3349] as if she were a baby; she has brought up the younger boy and has done a fine job of it - you can imagine how difficult it was with the real mother right in the house. The second wife is completely tied down; all the social life of the family hinges around [3349]; everything has been done to make her comfortable; a contraption to turn pages of a book for her at the right angle; trick mirrors which allow her to see people going along the street and watch them come into the house; a special arrangement which enables her to talk over the phone to her friends; she has recently “gone into business” of selling greeting cards, note paper, etc., and has paid for much improvement in conditions by the added money which she shares with the second wife - gives her half of what she makes. All the expression that I can put into my speech by using my hands and mannerisms of facial expression, [3349] puts into her voice - that’s all she has. Such enthusiasm and joy you never saw anywhere; all the people of the community flock to her in a constant stream.

The daughter [3901] married very early to a young man who wanted to get her out of that environment; they did not actually live as man and wife for 3-4 years afterwards - they now have two children; [3901] for years has visited her mother daily and fed her at the luncheon meal.

It is a most interesting and karmic household; a real inspiration to all who visit there. Each member of the family, even the son who is now a grown up young man, is trained to wait on [3349] taking care of all the intimate details of her toilet. It would certainly be fascinating to know what their past karmic tie was, to get them into such a situation in this present life.

The EC treatment was not ever used entirely; it was impossible without the patient being in a hospital prepared for such attention. It was impossible to move her to do the oil massage, the pain was so excruciating.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I am very grateful to you for giving me the November fourth date for my coming reading. I shall endeavor to carry out your suggestions to the letter because I have the fullest confidence in these extraordinary readings that you give.

I shall be in the front bedroom of my home at the above address, and you will have no difficulty I am sure in locating me.

As to the questions, Mr. Cayce, about all I really want to know is whether or not there is any possibility of my becoming normal again, and if I will be able to straighten out my knees so that walking would be in the realm of possibilities.

There is hardly a part of my body that does not need something done to it, and at the present time I am in a helpless condition, so naturally it is my desire, if at all possible, to get to the point where I will not have to be waited on hand and foot.
