This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 5th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3388], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:10 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. …, New York.

1. GC: You will give the physical condition of this body at the present time, with suggestions for further corrective measures, answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here; this we have had before.

3. As we find, it has been indicated that operative measures will immediately make of the entity an invalid. Rather, one chance in a million of it ever being on its feet again, with untold suffering.

4. Yet if there is the use of the ultra-violet with the green glass, applied to the caecum and sacral area every other day for a minute to a minute and a half, the body should be able to keep on its feet for several months.

5. It may be true that the condition is such as to eventually become more and more aggravating, unless divine science is used within self.

6. Occasionally the use of an oil injection in the rectal area will make for better conditions, even against the seriousness of those disturbances. Put one drop of carbolic acid in one ounce of glycerine. Beat this mix very thoroughly, then add two ounces of Usoline or Nujol. About a tablespoonful of this injected once a week, using a baby syringe, will be very helpful.

7. Do these if the body wants to live the longer. Do these if he wants to have less pain the longer. If he wants to be very scientific materially, forget it!

8. Ready for questions.

R1. 2/44 A.R.E. Bulletin carried quotes from 3388-1 and 3388-2 re. necessary mental attitude, spiritual advice, etc.

R2. 3/2/44 Miss [954] wrote: “If it is possible I want the enclosed letter to go to your Case No. [3388]… For many hours now I am free from pain [from serious rectal condition]… I am looking forward to being able to earn my living sometime… So forward this letter if you will. There is hope for the condition I am sure if it has not been too much tampered with surgically.”

R3. 6/3/44 [945]‘s ltr. to EC:

My dear Teacher:

How very dear of you to write to me in the midst of all you are doing…and such pressure as you now experience. I was touched by the mention of help given in high places. I am so glad. We need our blessed high ones so much - and shall need them for some years to come. I sense almost exactly what you mean in the phrase for we have not been without concern over the President and over Mr. Hopkins…and some others.

I have news which will interest you very much. Mr. [3388] has contacted me as result of a letter I wrote when mention of his reading was given in the Bulletin. This soul has shown much strength in that he refused the operation upon the reading’s say-so. But I find him still in that shifting sands stage of mind - now backwards now forwards. In this our meeting I have indicated to him a path of procedure which I KNOW will be most helpful. And I shall let you know of his future efforts in following it.

In this connection I was shown a chameleon watched hungrily by a raven - bird of death. Rather good, isn’t it?

He made some fine expressions of soul during the interview. Spoke of Jesus’ admonition to “Love your enemies”…and said “we love our friends but Jesus says it ought to be just about the other way around…that we should love our enemies…”

His difficulty is extreme…but without pain which is really amazing. You’d be amazed at the vitality of body…the strength. He came to me after a horseback ride! Ah…that I might have that much strength without the constant pain…or that I should not say…for indeed I am so much better and so much more free from pain now.

He is most appreciative - tells me of contacts he has had from time to time…that he says “God guided me…”

So I know all this is pleasing to you…as it is to me. I was interested to hear that his reading gave no physical instructions whatever - simply the warning and the admonitions to mental control which he is really trying to make - but without a mentor.

Dear love to you. My prayerful thoughts of you are ever the Highest. Rest in His love - for indeed you have been a good and faithful servant. If I might but do a thousandth part as well! And above all…do not overstrain. Remember ever that HIS Ways are many…and that he does not require one entity to carry the full burden. Your true work is that of a way-shower…indicating to these who come that Higher Forces give them their life and breath and being. Love to Gertrude…and Gladys…

R4. GD’s note: Evidently Mr. [3388] got well, because in 5/58 a routine A.R.E. mailing brought a change of address for him to another N.Y. town. [Miss [954] was also still living in 1/57 when we last heard from her!]
