This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at his home on Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of May, 1938, in accordance with request made by the sister - Miss [243], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

2. As we find, conditions are not so good. There are the inclinations for the accumulations from inflammatory forces through the digestive system; as well as through the pulmonary system; producing an accumulation that becomes in the form almost tumorous in its nature.

3. Under the present conditions we find it would be more preferable to have the attention of the physician of the OSTEOPATHIC school, but the man rather than the lady - for this particular body in the present; for it may become necessary for operative measures and his associations or connections would be better.

4. We would apply the combination of the opiate influences upon the body; that is, three parts Laudanum to one part Aconite; just below the breast bone, you see - or across a portion of the abdomen AND just below the secondary cardiac plexus; or about the 4th and 5th DORSAL areas.

5. THEN apply HEAT, preferably the heavy SALT - rather than the saturated solution of Epsom Salts; for there is needed the SALT effect, or calcium. Apply this over the same areas of the abdomen as well as in the back.

6. Do these as we find for the present.

7. (Q) Is Dr. Shackleford the osteopathic physician referred to? (A) A man rather than a lady. Shackleford would be very well, and the connections are better. [James R. Shackleford, D.O.]

R1. 6/2/38 Husband [348]‘s ltr.: “[340]‘s rdg. came yesterday, the telegram the day before. Am glad to say the pains are all gone, and she is much better. Dr. Shackleford gave her examination today, also treatment. If nothing new develops, think she will be o.k. Many thanks.”

R2. 6/4/38 Mrs. [340]‘s ltr.: “I’m lying in bed writing… I’m much better but, needless to say, am so very weak, because I’m eating so little.

“I’m enclosing Dr. Shackleford’s note [see R3 below] which speaks for itself. He knows so little about your work or anything of that nature, it’s difficult for him to grasp it. Dr. Whiteside seems to understand psychic phenomena much more readily. He would like for you to explain [Dr. Shackleford] just where you saw the accumulation that was near tumorous. I guess that’s what you wanted him to find out, didn’t you? I have very little soreness in my stomach and bowels now. [348] took me down yesterday p.m. and Dr. Shackleford gave me a good treatment. I’m to go back again Monday. Dr. S. said he would like very much to have a ck. rdg. and see if this accumulation has been eliminated. I do not like to ask so much of you when I know you are so busy, but at the same time I’m at your mercy to get this condition cleared.”

R3. Dr. Shackleford’s Report: “Slight spastic colitis on left in descending colon. No evidence of enlargement of liver or gall bladder involving a tumor are evident by palpating. NO especial tenderness in the abdomen except in the area about the naval & this not much. Much tenseness & stiffness in lower dorsal. Entire back is somewhat stiff, no symptoms of ulcerations or perforations in the G.I. tract or of appendicitis. Local exam not made.

Could you interpret future readings for me in the light of your past experience with these. They are difficult at times for me to get the full import in the terms I am accustomed to.

What do you think of their using Papaya products? I have suggested their use in the general diet.”
