Inquiring man. In this connection, [341], my son, come sit here beside me and I will give you an insight into this experience that, applied in the life, will bring to you and your understanding a fuller, larger, and broader conception of that experience as you are aware of that is often manifest through …[294]. Now you know, in my own last experience I knew much of your thoughts and determinations in the life, and have often watched with you and over you in the studies as you have contemplated those things as pertain to the psychological studies, or psychology in its making, and in these studies there has often come to you those flashes of the little things we spoke of at times, especially just after arm was in place. Now you have seen with the mind’s eye those experiences of both the applied psychology as man determines same, through that of an overtaxed mind mentally coming to a sudden halt, or realization of how little, or how short is the vision of man’s experience. In this experience as seen, when there is the halting between the ethereal or cosmic, or unknown energy and that of the reality, there comes the dread of seeing what lies just beyond; yet the realization of the existence of the beyond becomes as real as the last conversation with the body or bodies that were seen in this experience; yet also there is seen the surrounding conditions of which you well know that I held as one of the drawbacks to a young man’s development, this of intoxicants in the body, deadening, deranging, or expanding the mental faculties to such an extent as to burn them out; yet in mine own experience these, under other guises, I often indulged to the extent that in the end they took their toll. Then this the greater lesson, my son, to gain from this experience. Use - USE - all the faculties of the mental, material, the cosmic, the ever ready sensuous forces, but never allow self to abuse that mental body in any respect, would the body gain cognizance or consciousness of the associations that lie between the abilities of the mental being and of the body mental in the cosmic or in that force, that vibration, that is ever ready for expression as those are in the material plane. Then, be not afraid of that that may be seen. Keep self, body, mind, pure and clean, and you will find the greater flow of consciousness for good that may be attained in a material world. Yes, this is Gay [Samuel G. Gay, M.D.], and I will speak with thee again.

We are through.
Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 5/26/29 “I rec’d my rdg. and have gone over it many, many times.
“Indeed it was very good and, too, gives me a very clear understanding of the experience, as well as conditions relating to it. I appreciate getting it - and in the way I did (meaning the rdg.). One can always go back over a year and pick out the high spots - that was certainly one of mine. There is much that this opens up for me - and many questions. There is one part about which I expect you wondered, that referring to intoxicants in the body. On first reading one would undoubtedly hit upon the happy solution that I had been drinking and had simply had a nice, wild dream. I am very glad that I do not prepare for Greek exams in that way, or that would be very logical solution. I had taken a couple of those Painodynes (?) for a headache. They, plus the overtaxed mind, did the work, I guess. I can’t help thinking of Dr. Gay now and then, and I am having a delightful time recalling, or trying to recall, things he said to me. At times it isn’t very hard, for some reason or other.
“This morning I heard a very good sermon which struck me pretty hard, the reason I liked it I guess. An important idea which attracted me and brought me up with a start was this. Some people simply try to get an understanding of God, of goodness, of what is right and wrong, and believe that because they understand they become good, religious, etc. They spend all their time in trying to find out what it is all about and forget to use and work with what they have in hand. I have heard this so many times from the rdgs. in dozens of forms to individuals and to groups, but it caught me in mid air, as it were, this morning and, coupled with my rdg., set me to thinking and checking up. I find I am getting to be like that, and in so doing am losing all over again my sense of the values of the little things in life. In other words, I have tried to get so far up that my feet have left the ground and I can’t make a clear-cut, definite decision as to the right an wrong of everyday affairs which matter more in affecting others than I stop to realize. I am losing contact with individuals and setting a bad example where I do not mean to, for I don’t consider it worth the trouble to stop and make a decision. It hurts me, changes my personality for the worst. I shall start out to change this at once, and would like to talk it over with you when I get back, with a view of checking on myself.”
