GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3413].
-
As we find, there are disturbances that are preventing the better physical functioning of the body. These have to do primarily with those glandular disturbances as related here to eliminations.
-
This gradual change has brought about such chemical reactions as to cause portions of the body (beginning in the extremities, and in portions of the cerebrospinal system) to have strains; so that these poisons, from lack of eliminations, form in the muscles and tendons. These in combination with the flow of lymph circulation produce pressures on nerve centers, or the emunctory patches in portions of the extremities and in the body-forces themselves.
-
These cause in the blood supply an alternating or irregular circulation. This produces in the central circulation one character of elimination and circulation in one portion and a slower activity in another portion; thus contributing still further to those pressures on the nerve systems.
-
In the organs as related to nerve forces of the body, with this particular body the emotional portions of the sympathetic nerve forces in the present receive distresses that make for further blocking of the lymph activity.
-
Hence the throat, the head, the organs of the sensory forces, are all under distress in the present.
-
In the centers where the lymph and superficial circulation coordinate, is where the arthritic tendencies are indicated, and in the areas of the lower lumbar where there has been a strain on the pelvic axis. This causes distresses to the small of the back, extending up to the area of the kidneys. This is from the congestion rather than being an organic disturbance of kidneys; though the pelvic organs do become involved in the disturbances.
-
These all combined, then, work hardships upon the central nervous system, the central blood supply, and cause the irregularity that has been indicated.
-
In the organs themselves we find the flexes and reflexes rather than organic disturbances. For, as indicated, the glandular centers are all under stress - as in liver, as in the circulation between liver and kidneys - including adrenals, including the centers through the abdomen area, also throat and head; though the thyroid is in near a normal reaction at present.
-
Then, in making for corrective measures - first we would begin taking internally Atomidine, one drop in half a glass of water each morning before breakfast for five days. Then leave off five days. (These first two periods will be rather strenuous for the body.) Then take five days more.
-
On the last day of the second series take eight drops, and on the evening of that same day have an Epsom Salts Bath. Use at least ten pounds of Epsom Salts in thirty to thirty-five gallons of water. This should be warm, hot, or so that the body can step into same and then add in hot water gradually. There should be a massage of the body thoroughly while in the Bath, of the limbs, the back, the hands and arms, through neck and shoulders. Massage the body throughout the period, and remain in the Bath for at least twenty minutes.
-
Then shower off and have a thorough, brisk rubdown with a coarse towel.
-
Follow this with an oil massage, using this combination:
Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Oil of pine Needles…1/2 ounce, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/4 ounce.
-
Massage these oils thoroughly over the back, the lower portion of the back especially; the hands, the knees, the ankles, the feet, and the whole of the torso.
-
After this we would rest from all applications for at least a week to two weeks. Then repeat the whole course.
-
During the rest period, have a correction made - osteopathically - in the lower portion of the spinal nerves and segments. Coordinate then the cervical area with corrections made through sacral and lumbar area.
-
It would be well through the period if the body would wear a web as a brace to the back, or as a low corset to brace the back.
-
Then the diet: Do have often the raw vegetables such as celery, lettuce, carrots and watercress. Prepare these often (though not every period) with gelatin. Do not throw away the juices when grating or preparing any of these, but include the juices also in the gelatin, for the greater amount of the vitamins necessary. For, the active principle of each of these as a vegetable is in the juices. Occasionally the juices alone may be taken, if this is preferable. For this body, do not use any canned juice. Any of these for this body would be more harmful than beneficial.
-
Use a great deal of sea foods in the diet also; all characters of shell fish, as well as the fish itself.
-
Do these and we will find better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is the trouble in my feet arthritis or arch trouble? (A) These are rather the combination, but when these are treated with the oils and the massages are taken, with the Baths at their regular period, we will find that these will help correct these conditions.
-
(Q) Will I be able to return to work? (A) After about the second series the body should be able to return to work.
The corrections osteopathically, of course, will not be done in one treatment, it will require three to four to five or six treatments. But these should be corrections in the lumbar and sacral areas and the lower dorsal, and RELAXING treatments in the upper dorsal and cervical.
-
(Q) Can you recommend any special osteopath for these treatments? (A) Anyone who will conform to these. As we find, Ober or McCoy or Richardson. Any of these will do it if the body demands that it be done.
-
We are through with this reading.

ATTENTION MR. EDGAR CAYCE
Dear Sir,
On the 20th day of November, 1943 I had a reading by Mr. Cayce and the purpose of this letter is to report on the results obtained and to thank you sincerely for the benefits received.
As instructed I purchased and took Atomidine. Since I had no one at home to give the massages recommended I tried to obtain same from Witcher’s establishment. They do not have a tub but suggested that I take the steam baths rubbed in Epsom salts, to be followed by the massage and rub down in the oils prescribed. As yet I have not been able to get the Epsom salt bath angle worked out satisfactorily but am making a sincere effort to do so and feel confident that it will be taken care of soon. I had two steam baths, massages and rub downs in oil at Witchers but as stated above have not as yet been able to take the entire treatment recommended by Mr. Cayce.
After the first treatment and during the rest period I went to Dr. McCoy [C. L. McCoy, D.O.] for the osteopathic treatments. Dr. McCoy’s diagnosis was identical to Mr. Cayce regarding the trouble in my back. He has been treating me and I am overjoyed at the improvement in my back. I have gone back to work and am now able to be up all day and live a normal life. I cannot praise Dr. McCoy’s work too highly.
I wish I were capable of saying how very grateful I am for the wonderful reading by Mr. Cayce. Please accept my sincerest thanks.
Please advise me when I may obtain an appointment for a check up reading. Thanking you, I am,
Very truly yours,
R2. 4/13/44 Questions:
- Do I have sinus and if so what treatment is prescribed?
- What can I do to overcome the ache and tired feeling in my arms and back?
- Are there any exercises that I can take to keep my weight down that will not be detrimental to my back?
- Should I wear glasses while working and reading?
- Are my lungs all right?
- What is the cause of the recurrence I experienced this morning of my back disability?
R3. 4/22/44 See 3413-2.

B1. Questions and comments immediately preceding 3413-1:
What is the source of infection for the supposed arthritis? What causes the disability in my back? Is this the same condition that I have in hands, feet and knees? Is the trouble in my feet arthritis or arch trouble?
(Have followed the routine treatments…have taken 4 or 5 courses of shots, etc., and the condition has been blamed on sinus and everything else, but can’t find the real source…don’t get any better…my back feels like I have lockjaw in it.)
Should a support be worn for the back?
