This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the father - Mr. […] - new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Dr. Edgar C. Buck, M.D.

Time of Reading 4:10 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ohio. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here.

2. As we find here, there are definite disturbances in the physical organs of the body that are causing the hallucinations as well as those reflexes to the mental body.

3. Here we find, under a sympathetic gynecologist, there would be found such adhesions in the organs of the pelvis and the activity of the genital organs as to produce these disturbances.

4. These arise from an injury to the end of the spine.

5. If there is the inability to obtain such consideration in the present environs, do have the body examined at Still-Hildreth in Macon, Missouri. If this condition is taken in time, we find that this body can be saved from a life of confinement. For the cycle of life here will run long, unless there is self-effacement.

6. Do that.

7. (Q) Then this is not a hereditary condition? (A) It is purely a physical condition, from a pressure existent in the coccyx end of the spine, affecting directly the organs of the pelvis.

8. We are through for the present.

R1. 12/29/81 GD’s note: We never heard further regarding this case. At the time, Mr. Cayce was asked to mail the reading to a friend’s home, since they did not want it coming to the house. I’m making a note to myself, at this late date, to try to communicate with the parents or the friend of the family who was in sympathy with them getting the reading for Miss [3415]. IF the father wrote shortly after receiving the reading the letter may have been lost in the deluge of mail he was getting. Mr. Cayce was already ill himself and not able to handle his correspondence although he did his best to continue giving readings for the most needy cases - until Aug. ‘44.

B1. 9/13/43 Father’s letter: “We have a daughter, [3415], age 22, single, about whom we are greatly worried. For the past 2 wks. she has had mental aberrations for which we cannot account, the most persistent being the notion that she is being used as the subject of experimentation for the advancement of science. She resents this ‘experimentation’ and has had a reproachful attitude towards us for not discussing it with her. She is not violent nor has she any eccentricities or abnormalities of habit or behavior. The family physician says she is well physically.

“Questions: What has caused this mental condition? Why does it persist? What treatment is necessary for a cure? If a cure results, what can be done to prevent a relapse?”

B2. 10/25/43 Father’s letter: “We had placed [3415] in a Rest Home in Cincinnati where she remained 2 wks., during which time she was interrogated by psychiatrists, and also was given about 6 shock treatments to the head. She was very unhappy there among nervous and mental patients and as her trouble did not improve, we brought her home.

“The following week we took her to a chiropractor, Dr. Fred E. Schuster who x-rayed her spine and gave her about 7 adjustments to correct a severe displacement of vertebrae at the base of the skull, and also of those that affect the thyroid. However, as [3415] is of the opinion that she does not need any sort of treatment, she refuses to continue having adjustments. She is better and her hallucinations have appeared less often and have less importance to her than formerly. She even worked, against her will, for a week at her former position of comptometer operator in a huge, noisy office of a local chain-grocery corporation. She dislikes to be thwarted or crossed… She read the article about you in the Coronet magazine and was very much interested in you.”

B3. 11/16/43 Father’s letter: “I have inserted the name of Dr. Edgar C. Buck in the application where recommendation is requested. He was the M.D. in attendance and treated her for nervousness and hysteria last summer during the first outbreak of her trouble. I am certain he will cooperate wholeheartedly if the services of a medical doctor be required… The medical doctors have diagnosed her trouble as ‘psycho-neurosis’, but we feel certain there is some physical cause for the development of this mental illness.
