This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 2nd day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [3429], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Miss [852].
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Harmon Bro.]
Time of Reading 4:25 to 4:40 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Ky.

GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: We have been here before! [GD’s note: I found that Mrs. [865] lived across street when her Physical Rdg. was given.]
-
We have the body here, [3429].
-
As we find, there are disturbing conditions that prevent the better physical functioning with this body. These are the results of catarrhal effects from congestions arising from infections that are partly constitutional.
-
These, then, are prenatal. We find that they may be eliminated from the body. But this catarrhal condition in the soft tissue of the sinus and in the throat, with the acid condition, has gradually produced inflammation through drippings, or the secretions that have become a part of the digestive forces. Thus it has unbalanced the combination of lactics and acids, so that the chyle of the stomach is constantly tending to lack sufficient acid - and then there are conditions where the system is very acid - in the attempts of the body to create a balance.
-
Thus the body is subject to colds, to hot and cold flashes, to a constant upsetting of the digestive system, and periods when there is a great deal of gas through the abdominal areas with heaviness through the caecum and colon. All of these are effects and results of these conditions that exist with the body.
-
These may be eliminated, as we find. All of these may be eliminated by self - you don’t have to go to a doctor for this, if you will do it! But if you do it haphazardly you will only get haphazard results! You must be consistent (and what woman is consistent!), you must be persistent (and most women are persistent!).
-
Do be consistent and persistent in the use of these suggestions we will make, and we will correct these disturbances with this body.
-
First have an inhalant prepared, adding the ingredients in the order named; preferably using a large-mouth 6 or 8 ounce bottle, with 2 vents going through the cork, neither of these entering the solution but the space above the solution, and these to be kept corked when not in use:
Pure Grain Alcohol…4 ounces, Oil of Eucalyptus…30 drops, Rectified Turpentine…10 drops, Compound Tincture of Benzoin…20 drops, Tolu in Solution…15 drops.
-
Shake the solution well, and inhale the fumes at least three times of morning upon arising and of evening before retiring - for the nasal passages, either side about twice. Remove the small corks and inhale deeply through the nostril, either side; then through the mouth - but don’t swallow. Inhale into the lung as you would inhale cigarette smoke - but it is not best for this body to smoke.
-
Also prepare a keg for inhaling the fumes from Pure Apple Brandy. Use this night and morning. The other inhalant may be used at other times also, but this should be used only night and morning. In the beginning don’t use more than one good deep inhalation, but have Pure Apple Brandy - not Applejack nor Cider, but Apple Brandy.
-
About twice each week take internally a teaspoonful of Acigest in a glass of raw milk, preferably at or during the evening meal - a teaspoonful in a tumbler or large tea glass of milk, and drink it all - say Tuesdays and Thursdays.
-
Also once each week, preferably at the noon meal - say on Wednesdays - eat a whole wheat cracker spread thinly with Calcios.
-
These are to act upon the acid condition and the gland circulation, to stimulate a better circulation.
-
Then at least twice each week, following a very hot sponge bath or shower, massage the spine thoroughly - from top to bottom, 1st cervical down to the end of the spine - with Cocoa Butter.
-
Do that.
-
In the diet keep plenty of raw vegetables, such as watercress, celery, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots. Change these in their manner of preparation, but do have some of these each day. They may be prepared rather often with gelatin, as with lime or lemon gelatin - or Jello. These will not only taste good but be good for you.
-
Have plenty of sea foods - not fresh water fish but sea foods; especially fish and oysters. These are well for the body.
-
Fowl may be taken, but no hog meat - no ham. A little breakfast bacon may be taken occasionally, if very crisp. Plenty of eggs, but only eat the yolk - not the white. Whether these are fried or boiled, only eat the yolk.
-
Not too much sweets, and especially not much chocolate. Hard candies may be taken occasionally.
-
Only eat whole wheat bread.
-
Do these things and we will have something to work for, something to work with, for we will have a good body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Is it necessary for an operation for ovarian and womb tumors? (A) There will be no tumors if you will do these things, for we will get rid of these conditions.
When there is trouble with the periods, apply Glyco-Thymoline Packs over the ovaries and pubic center. Following the periods use Glyco-Thymoline douches - two tablespoonsful of Glyco-Thymoline to the quart and a half of water body-temperature, using only a Fountain Syringe.
-
(Q) Would it be well for me to change climates? (A) Not necessary, but if the actions of the body are such that this is desirable, it can do so.
-
(Q) Should I change jobs, and if so what kind of work would be better for me? (A) The body is in a very good job for the entity’s make-up.
-
We are through with this Reading.

Mr. Edgar Cayce The Association for Research and Enlightenment Arctic Crescent Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Sir: Re: Reading [3429] January 2, 1944
Immediately after receiving reading of Jan. 1, 1944, I began to try and get the articles, inhalants, medicines etc. named for me to use, but it took sometime for me to get them and get to using them. Much difficulty was experienced in finding pure apple brandy, and it was through the aid of Miss […] and her father that one-half gallon was located, for he found it. I had Mr. […] order the keg for me, and the bottle inhaler was made in High School laboratory, but it was the last of January before I got the grain alcohol inhalant made and also received the acigest and the calcios.
I have used the inhalants regularly, taken the medicines as prescribed, and with very few exceptions have eaten only wholewheat bread (only when or where no other was served, and I have eaten some cornbread). Have refrained from eating pork in any form, except a little bacon, and seldom use even a little lard, only Crisco for cooking.
Now, in some ways I feel I am better, for I have not had as much trouble with discharge from nose and feel my stomach - gastric condition, is slightly improved.
I want to continue on with your treatment, so am writing asking what you think best for me to do.
All last year I suffered much with my head and back, and in December 1943 I began to suffer more and all during Christmas week and after I wrote you December 25, 1943, I suffered severely with the lower part of my back. This continued on until about the first of year, when I noticed a soreness at base of spine, then a swelling developed and soon a ridge formed by the side of spine and extended to rectum, and I suffered severely so much so that on January 5, I went to see a local Doctor and on examination he informed me I had an abscess which should be opened immediately. This he did and much pus drained therefrom. This condition continued to grow worse and later the Doctor had to lengthen the first incision by two inches in order to reach another pus pocket and keep it draining. Now this abscess continues to drain yellow pus and liquid and I have to wear dressing on wound all the time. It is very uncomfortable, hurts, much at times, especially when sitting, and it pains much and I still suffer with back and headache. The Doctor said he did not know what caused this abscess and it might be a long time before it healed, if ever.
What I eat I mostly force for even when I feel hungry and prepare things I feel like I want, I can only eat a little before I just can’t swallow another mouthful. It seems my throat just gets so tired when I try to eat and in swallowing my food, that I get to where I can’t try to eat anything more then, and I really don’t want any more. I enjoy milk and butter and fresh cream and try to use as much of them as practical.
I have lost more than thirty pounds, weighing a little more than 132 now. My skin, especially face, neck and arms seems to be turning from the blond-white it was to a brownish color with splashes of even darker color on one cheek (looks like dirt).
My head, throat and left ear has given me much trouble; ear soreness runs from ear drum down into throat and hurts severely. I have practically lost my voice, for I stay hoarse or a raspy voice all time, and at times I can hardly make myself understood and can only talk a few minutes before voice gives out entirely. There seems to be a phlegm that forms at upper part of throat that at times just completely cuts off my breathing. This condition is very annoying as well as uncomfortable, for I can’t keep my speaking voice long enough at times to carry on my solicitations or a telephone conversation. This condition has existed now for more than a year, for Doctor told me it was laryngitis, one saying it was caused by strain from difficult breathing, coughing with asthma and bronchial trouble.
My lungs have hurt me much, especially the upper part of right one, for it seems there is a sore place where no air passes, and I expectorate much yellow pus, phlegm etc. from my lungs, and when the sore spot hurts I do not get any relief until I have coughed up several mouthfuls of the pus-phlegm.
My abdomen has reduced until I don’t look like the same person for I was much enlarged in this region. Also my hips have reduced much, as well as the fleshy part of arms and legs - in fact I have begun to look saggy - my skin is so loose in places. The weight of my hand or arm on my abdomen, stomach or chest seems to put a pressure on that effects my breathing.
I still have asthma and lose much rest at times.
Since before first of year I have been having night sweats and when I awake from one of them, the perspiration is standing and running off of me. I can run my fingers down my arm and rake the water off same as if I had taken a shower. After these sweats, which now are almost every night, I am so weak that I can hardly walk and sometimes I have to take a stimulant or just do as little as possible until I regain some strength.
My feet and legs cramp so severely at times that I have to get out of bed and massage them, or if in daytime, stop and remove shoes and slap or rub muscles until I get relief.
I have not taken any medicines from Doctor, as the one who opened the abscess said he knew of no medicine he could give me for its benefit, and since I have been faithfully relying on your instructions, I refrained from seeking other medical advice. I have taken mineral oil and cascara and similar laxatives when necessary. Also take aspirin and acetanlin for relief of head and back.
I have been an anemic for many years, so felt my blood was low again, so I had a hemoglobin test made and found count below 70 so I bought some Feosol tablets that I often use to build up blood, and have been taking them for several days.
Now, Mr. Cayce my medicine - calcios and acigest are nearly exhausted and my brandy inhalant is exhausted (and as yet I have not been able to get another one-half gallon to refill jug) and the whole grain inhalant is getting low, so I want to know what to do. I want to continue your treatment if you think best, for I do have faith in it, so if it is necessary that I have another or check-up reading, then please advise me telling me when and the cost, for if you want me to order more medicines and to continue the inhalants and whatever else, then I want to get them and have medicines when present supply is exhausted.
Please write me just as soon as you can telling me just what you want me to do.
I want to get well and I have tried faithfully to carry out your instructions and do as you told me to do.
May I hear from you at an early date?
Yours very truly, [3429]

Dear Miss [3429]
I have yours of the 22nd. I beg your pardon for not answering sooner, but with our Congress being on my correspondence has been neglected.
I would by all means if it is possible get more of all of the ingredients suggested in your reading and follow through with the suggestions made. Then just as soon as it is possible, if you desire, we will make a check reading for you and see if there is anything else to be suggested at this time. I am sure that through some of the people there you will be able to get the ingredients to carry on with the suggested treatments.
Let me hear from you and know that we are very anxious to try and be of any possible help. Hoping that you will continue to improve and with every good wish, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/wi

Miss [3429] …, Ky.
Dear Miss [3429]
Since we have no assurance that Mr. Cayce will be physically able to return to work for another six months, if at all, we feel that it is quite right - that - you should have your fee of $10.00 for a check reading returned to you.
In your letter of August 5, you requested that we again attempt to “ascertain your physical troubles and learn what you should do to correct them.” This has been very definitely outlined for you in your first reading. Past experience has taught us that very little can be added to the first reading until the suggestion are followed through in detail. We hasten to urge you to make a complete outline of the suggestions given you, making it into a schedule that will include daily activities (as near as possible) and diet. In following your first reading to the smallest detail, you will receive results.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the detailed reports on your condition. This information is very important to our research work, through which it is our hope, to help those who are not fortunate enough to receive help through an individual reading.
Enclosed you will find a check in the amount of $10.00
Thanking you for your cooperation, I am
Sincerely, Gladys Davis, Sec’y [via M V]
R4. GD’s note: Test mailing several years later indicated that Miss [3429] had died.
Background
Background
B1. 12/25/43 Letter: Regarding the questions I wish to have asked at the time of reading, want to say that I would like to have information regarding the following:
What is the cause of my bronchial, throat and chest (or lungs) trouble, and what should be done to get relief and effect a cure? I have been advised by Doctor to take several months rest, preferably in a hospital, not to try and work for several months or a year, who said my bronchial condition such that I should not try and work - that I should be in some other climate.
What causes the abdominal and liver trouble - improper elimination, pressure, enlargement of abdomen and lower portion of body, swelling of legs and feet; seemingly improper functioning of liver, jaundice condition, pains in back, neck and shoulders?
What is the cause of my suffering from almost constant headache, at times very severe? My eyesight bad (I have worn glasses since childhood), sight seems to be failing - can’t judge distances and dizziness, turn or move quickly I seem to lose balance for a few seconds. Also, what cause of nervous, fatigue and prostrate condition?
What about this: One Doctor has advised operation for ovarian and womb tumors. He says they are causing much trouble, probable cause of anemic condition, obstructing proper bowel functioning, nervous condition and aggravating asthmatic condition.
I take cold easily, which with bronchial asthma brought on by bronchiectasis (as that is what my Doctor says I have had for several years) causes a bronchial and chest congestion as well as cold in head and nasal passages.
All in all, I want to know my physical condition - the cause or causes of various ills, what I should do to correct or aid condition. Should I go, if possible, to another climate?
I am not able to work but very little, some days when I work a few hours and exert myself I am then unable to work the next day or two or probably a week or more. I have suffered many years, spent all on Doctors and medicine, and the last spell I had with bronchial and liver congestion, the only thing Doctor would do was to give me hypodermics of adrenaline and codeine. These I can’t stand long and don’t want them. I have to take laxatives regularly and each morning before breakfast I take epsom salts and soda so as to flush system, otherwise the poison accumulates and I soon develop asthma and severe headache.
