This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 30th day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3434], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by his wife, Mrs. [3037].

Time of Reading 3:30 to 3:45 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, N.J.

1. GD: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3434].

3. In giving suggestions that might be applied here, we find there are disturbances that prevent the better physical functioning of the body. These, as we find, arise from toxic conditions and an incoordination between the eliminating channels of the body.

4. Thus the irritations that exist at times in superficial circulation (though these are much improved in the latter years) and the activities as related to the muscular forces in the extremities, and the lack of proper activity in same. A neuritic effect, tending towards arthritis effects through the body.

5. The blood stream shows at times an irregularity in the heart’s activity, poor activity in eliminations through alimentary canal, though at times these can be made to function normally; causing disturbance in gall duct, pancreas and spleen. When such conditions occur the body can become quite crabbed; at others we find a very well balanced disposition.

6. These activities as yet are functional, with the central blood and nervous system as well as the organs of same.

7. The effects that these have produced at times upon the sensory organisms show the relationships as borne between the various eliminating channels. For these have varied and do vary in their effect.

8. In making applications for correction, then:

9. We would have consistently at least three or four series of hydrotherapy treatments, applying with same the low electrical forces that will revivify the nerve forces of the body. These would be applied through the hands of the manipulator, rather than through any other character of mechanical appliance; though the Radio-Active Appliance will aid in equalizing the circulation throughout the body and make for better conditions as to the effect sleep has upon the body, or the effect of the nervous system that keeps the body awake at times.

10. Use this, if used at all, in the regular way or manner; that is, right wrist, left ankle, an hour each day - or at bedtime; using that period as the period for meditation and prayer.

11. Do these and we will bring better conditions for the body.

12. Do increase the iodine content by the diet. No red meats at any time. Fish, fowl and lamb occasionally; no fried foods. At regular intervals have fresh, raw vegetables. Be careful in the combination of foods. Never take any carbonated waters, or those drinks prepared with such.

13. Do these and we will have better conditions for this body.

14. Ready for questions.

R1. 5/3/60 [3434] visited A.R.E. with wife - said he did not follow his reading since doctor at time thought he had appendicitis and that it would burst if he used the treatment. Had then and still has ulcers of stomach - never did have appendix removed. Is fairly healthy, though, and has not resorted to doctors in years - watches his diet - just recently lost 40 pounds, since he was very overweight - feels better as result of it - but still has ulcers, etc. Told his wife they must get out his Physical Reading and see if he might still follow the reading. GD

Dear Mr. Cayce;

Will you please change the appointment on November 4th, P.M. from a Life Reading for my daughter [5359] to a Physical Reading for my husband? Such a reading for him is uppermost in my mind just now, as his health suffers periodically and he is going through such a period at this time.

Although he doesn’t disbelieve in your talents, and is a comparatively open-minded person, yet being also a hard-headed business man he is a bit more skeptical of spiritual powers than I would like him to be; therefore

• perhaps you won’t object to the final question on his application form, which if answered satisfactorily may be the cause of completely winning him over to this comforting and constructive philosophy which your wonderful work so ably promotes. And if this were to happen, I assure you we would both be happier people by becoming more compatible mentally.

The fee I sent for [5359]‘s reading may be applied to my husband’s reading instead, on November 4th, P.M. Is it necessary for him to cancel his business at that hour in order to receive a satisfactory reading?

Kindly fix the Life Reading for my daughter at your next available hour. I suppose that won’t be until after the new year! Could it be given on a Saturday A.M. so that school classes would not interfere with the desired attitude of meditation?

You know Mr. Cayce, I keep ‘your book’ always in a conspicuous place in my home; not that I expect everyone to read it on first sight and become a changed person over night, but I feel that if only one friend should at some time browse through it and gradually become interested in its message then I will not have been guilty of hoarding! (and besides that I like having it where I can see it myself.) I have decided to buy an extra copy to donate to our local lending library - then just think of all the people who may, all unsuspecting, accidently stumble upon the spiritual turning-point in their lives!

Mrs. Wilfred Sechrist, to whom Gladys gave my name and address, has become an interesting correspondent to me. I am looking forward to meeting her this fall. This easy friendliness between members of the Research Assoc. gives me the feeling of belonging to a big new family - it’s a nice, broad, outreaching sort of feeling!

I hope I shall receive the Congress Booklet soon now - it will be my first.

Dear Mr. [3434]

We had the appointment for your reading yesterday afternoon. I believe I spoke to you on the phone personally, but for some reason or other we were unable to locate you. I do not know just why this should be, but such was the case. We will try this again for you the afternoon of November 10, 3:30-4-30 EWT, provided that is agreeable with you. This is the day I am supposed to return from New York. It is possible that I may be delayed, but I hope we can keep this period for and with you. You will let us know, won’t you? Also let us know the exact address at which you will be at that hour.

B4. 11/24/43 Wife [3037]‘s letter:

Dear Gladys,

We are both so full of curiosity to know just why no contact was made at the hour of my husband’s reading. Has this ever happened before to Mr. Cayce? And how do you account for it? Please do clear up our mystification - for we are not asking from a critical attitude you may be sure, but from most natural curiosity and personal interest!

Is there any truth to my husband’s idea that his intense concentration, finally putting him to sleep, had a counter-effect on Mr. Cayce’s attempt? This idea, though amusing us a little, wouldn’t surprise me too much, for I must admit my husband proves his mind to be strong, and psychic, in many instances - (particularly in card games, so that his best friends refuse to bet against him!)

We do not wish our fee returned but rather would like the reading to be tried again - that is, if you honestly do not feel a repetition might be unnatural or forced?

This time I will see that Mr. [3434] spends the hour less concentrated, and just simply relaxing - in case that was the hindrance.

He will be here at home (above address) between 3:30 and 4:30 P.M., Tuesday afternoon, on November 30th; - that’s my birthday.

I do hope Mr. Cayce will have success with this Physical Reading, because Mr. [3434]‘s health does give us some concern; in any event, won’t you please try to answer my above questions - for my interest, as you may know, is much more general and impersonal in this whole subject than it is personal, and the ‘whys’ and ‘wherefores’ concern me more deeply than any specific reading!
