This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of November, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [3442], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.)]
Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:10 P. M. Eastern War Time. New York, New York.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes - now we find there are disturbing conditions with this body. These have to do with glandular conditions as combined with the effect upon organs, and their effect upon the extremities especially of the body.
-
While the diathermy treatments have been of help, these are not what is needed in the present or needed first. These we would change. While there will be periods they will be apparently very severe, we would begin in these manners to correct the eliminations and to add to the ability of the body in the glands through the digestive system, through the coordinating of the activities of the circulation between liver and kidneys, and between liver and kidneys and lungs.
-
Then we would stimulate the lymph and emunctory flow of circulation, as as to bring renewed energies to the hands, arms, and feet and limbs.
-
Thus we will find much better results may be obtained in and with this body.
-
First we would begin taking Atomidine internally, three drops in a glass of water before breakfast each day for at least eight days.
-
Don’t eat too heavily at any time during these early periods, but such as broths, vegetable juices, easily assimilated foods that will of themselves almost be absorbed through the gastric flow of the stomach itself. For these elements are very deficient, and we need to add to these activities by drainage or straining, as it were, the glands of the body; especially the thyroid, the adrenals, and those in the digestive flow of the duodenum itself.
-
When the Atomidine has been taken for the eight days, then have an Epsom Salts Bath. For this body we would put twenty pounds of Epsom Salts in at least forty gallons of water, dissolving the Salts thoroughly, and having the water a little more body temperature when the body is put into same. Let the body remain in this Bath for at least thirty minutes, continually adding the hot water to keep up the temperature, so that we set up the sweats. Keep the head cool, however. Throughout this period of the Bath, massage the body thoroughly - the limbs, the arms, The torso, along the back bone and along the sciatic nerve, along the frontal bone, the knees, the feet, the hands and the arms shoulders. Massage all of these very thoroughly.
-
When this is completed rub down the body with this combination oils, adding these in the order named:
Nujol, as the base…6 ounces, Olive Oil… 2 ounces, Peanut Oil…3 ounces, Witchhazel…2 ounces, Oil of Sassafras Root…1/2 ounce, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/2 ounce.
These will separate to be sure, but shake together then pour in a saucer - not in the hand from the bottle, for it would change the effect of this combination to do so. Pour into a saucer, dip the fingers in same and massage the body thoroughly. Commence with the toes and massage up to the torso. Commence at the fingers, the hands, and massage to the body. The massage either side of the spine, not so much the spine itself but either side. When coming to those areas in the lumbar and sacral, extend the massage across to the top of the hip bones and the diaphragm area, and across the rib area, along each rib. Single out these particular portions and come along each center, so that we may add to the strengthening of the body.
-
After resting a week, repeat this. Take the Atomidine for eight days, then have another Bath followed by the massage. Repeat this whole procedure about four times.
-
THEN we may begin with, not so much the diathermy as it would be the heat wave - which is the diathermy, but the short wave - not the long wave in same.
-
And we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
Keep close to lots of vegetables, lots of liquids, and gradually - when on the 3rd or 4th series of treatments - add more of solid foods. But no red meats. Have plenty of vegetables, fish, fowl and lamb, but never fried.
-
Do that and we will have better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What can be done about slow loss of hearing? (A) If these massage are kept up the body will hear better. This would be much better, of course, if finger surgery were used to strengthen the Eustachian tubes - by an osteopathic finger surgeon.
-
(Q) Any suggestion to help combat frequent insomnia? (A) You won’t have any trouble sleeping after the third period of series of these treatments! Before that it may be a little bit worse, but after that it will be better.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 11/29/43 [3442]‘s ltr. to EC:
My dear Mr. Cayce:
On Nov. 24, you made a physical reading for me, and the report of it reached me this morning. It is concerned entirely with suggested treatments, so far as I can judge, for arthritis, which I had mentioned as one of my minor troubles. I thank you for making these suggestions available to me, and will carry out the directions. These include massage, to be given in connection with a special bath.
It occurred to me that you might know of a woman here in New York who has given massage for other patients of yours. I should prefer some one who is accustomed to following your directions. If you do know of some one, I shall be grateful to have her address. If not, I will try to get a nurse with training in massage.
On the second page of the Reading, near the bottom, it reads: “After resting a week, repeat this. Take the Atomidine for eight days, then have another Bath followed by the massage. Repeat this whole procedure about four times.” I interpret “after resting a week” to mean that for a week I drop all treatment, and then begin taking Atomidine, for the second series of treatments. Is this correct? It might mean that I rested a week between baths, and took the medicine during this week; but I think the meaning is to drop the medicine for a week.
As you take the place of a physician in giving these readings, one must write to you as frankly as to a physician. In the medical statement that I sent, I stated that my main difficulty is contraction of the bladder, following an ulcer there and a series of operations. It is a keen disappointment to me that the reading says nothing about this condition; and that no questions were asked about it at the end of the reading. My main reason for seeking the reading was to find out whether there is any way to correct this condition. The specialist whom I have consulted for several years has tried all the remedies that he knows. While the condition does not cause me pain, it cuts me off from many normal activities, including most public gatherings, and is a constant inconvenience and annoyance. I cannot live a normal life.
I know that you are unconscious during the reading, so cannot tell why no statement was given about this trouble. But from previous experience, you may know whether or not the ignoring of an abnormal condition in a reading means that no remedy can be suggested for it. If that has been the case with other patients, it probably explains the silence in my reading. If, on the other hand, you think, (judging from experience with others), that in some way attention happened to be fastened on the arthritis, and this other condition was overlooked, would it be possible to have a supplementary reading in the near future? I know your schedule is filled far in advance, but perhaps this could be arranged. I had planned to have a life reading later, and a date was given to me for this next August. I would give this up, and use the $20 for another physical reading, if you think I could have it soon, and that it might give some information about the bladder contraction.
As I know you have many letters, and insufficient secretarial help, I want to make the answering of this letter as easy as possible. Accordingly, I have written out the questions I have asked on a separate sheet, and left space for answers, which can be filled in quickly. I am sorry that I have taken up more of your time; but as the reading did not touch my main difficulty, the affliction that caused me to request help, I thought it allowable to call this to your attention.
With best wishes to your Association,
Very truly yours, [3442]

Dear Miss [3442]
Replying to yours of the 29th, I would suggest that you see Dr. Harold J. Reilly, Reilly Health Service, R.C.A. Bldg. If you will explain and tell him about your conditions and what you want, you will find that he will take care of you, and you can make it at most whatever you are able to contribute. If circumstances are such that you can’t take care of all the treatments, don’t hesitate to tell him. You will get the same treatments as if you were paying your price.
Am of the opinion that the reason other things were not mentioned that if you take the type of treatments indicated, the other conditions would clear up. I would follow the suggestions, taking the Atomidine and you will have the special bath as they will give you there at Reilly’s. I think the conditions mentioned about the bladder will clear up if other conditions are taken care of. If this does not clear up very soon, there will be no extra charge and I assure you that Dr. Reilly will look after it himself, and if he feels that it needs attention, he will tell you and make the appointment real soon. Do go and see him.
Hoping to have been the means of a real help, I am
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce EC/vw
R3. 8/14/44 Letter: Last November I had a physical reading. Because of a long attack of bronchitis, I could not carry out the treatments suggested until spring. I did so at that time, but have seen no decided change in my condition. Sometimes I think the stiff knee is a little better.
Last fall I arranged for a Life reading the afternoon of Aug. 28, 1944. At that time I planned to have a Life reading. However, in the Physical reading something was said about my principal physical handicap, and no questions were asked about it. Because of this, I should like to have a Physical check-up reading.
R4. 1/28/45 GD’s note: She expressed regret at EC’s death, complimented us on 1/45 Bulletin “Letter to a Soldier” article.
R5. 10/22/48 She asked that we discontinue N.Y. meeting notices since she was moving to Calif.

B1. 11/17/43 STATEMENT OF PHYSICAL CONDITION
Sent for reading given by Edgar Cayce, Nov. 24, 1943.
Below are the main physical difficulties that I have. My question is whether there is any way to improve my condition.
Major Trouble. Contraction of the bladder. Its capacity for about nine months has been usually from 50 to 75 cubic centimeters, while the normal amount is 400 or 500 centimeters. Conditions have not been normal for twenty-five or more years, but I did not know the cause till 1934. At that time a cystoscopic examination showed an ulcer. This was removed in an operation, using electricity; but the physician said it was likely to return. Since then, I have had five operations, because of renewed inflammation in that spot. Between operations, the capacity was about 125 cubic centimeters.
Two years ago, I had a major operation, in which the surgeon cut the nerve that causes the bladder to contract. He hoped this would end the difficulty, but it did not. He thinks there may be an “auxiliary” nerve, not reached by the operation, so that the contraction continues. Since this last operation, the size is about half of the former 125 centimeters. However, I am now free from sympathetic intestinal cramps that I had before, and have practically no pain. The small size of the bladder makes frequent voiding necessary, the interval ranging from 20 minutes to two hours, being usually about an hour. The kidneys act with varying speed, and seem to be affected by what I eat. I have found it wise to give up nearly all fruits. My rest at night is of course much broken.
Minor Trouble. Tendency to arthritis, especially in one knee. Am now taking diathermy treatments.
Much insomnia. This may be partly due to frequent waking because of the bladder condition; and also the fact that during the operations and also at other times the doctor has prescribed sedatives. For the last month I have taken none.
Some loss of hearing, but not enough to prevent ordinary conversation.
