This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 11th day of December, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [3461], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in Coronet.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.) Harmon Bro.]
Time of Reading At home …, 10:40 to 10:50 A. M. Eastern War Time. New York City, N.Y.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here.
-
As we find conditions here may be made some easier. As to corrective forces, these are passed. Palliatives and helpful forces may be given.
-
Activities as to the mental attitudes should come deeper from within. If there would be the better attitude spiritually and mentally, it would be well for the entity to have those around the body who would teach - but most of all practice - divine science in their daily lives, as well as in theory - practice same. This will give to the entity a great deal of ease, a great deal of insight - which is much better than improving the physical vision - for this will mean little when there is the proper or correct insight into the relationships of the individual entity to the divine forces within.
-
Study very closely those activities of His chosen people as they were prepared to enter the Promised Land and yet from fear, from doubt, were rejected. Be not among those that would be rejected.
-
In the physical conditions of the body - we would have massages with oils following hot baths. These may be given as sponge baths, but along the spine.
-
Make greater eliminations and thus reduce the blood pressure, the tiredness, poisons and toxic forces through the system that tend to have an arthritic reaction - which is more neuritic than arthritic. Even though enemas are given often, if given properly and with precautions not to overstrain the body, these will bring a great deal of help to the body. Nearer normal conditions may be thus attained, if these are kept up, respecting pressure in heart’s activity. And this is a functional and not an organic condition, in relation to this phase of the disturbance.
-
When the hot applications or hot baths are given along the spine, over the diaphragm, over the limbs, massage the body with this combination of oils:
Olive Oil (heated)…2 ounces, Tincture of Myrrh…2 ounces, Calamus Oil…1 dram.
-
Give the enemas daily if necessary. Use an alkaline-reacting solution, but have the water near body temperature, not too cold nor too hot, and not too much at a time to overstrain the body - but do keep these up.
-
As to the diet, let this be of those things easily assimilated. No heavy meats. No quantities of sweets. But keep the diet well balanced.
-
Do these and we will find better conditions, especially if the mental and spiritual attitude of the body is kept in attune.
-
Ready for questions.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 4/1/44 [3461]‘s letter to EC: “You were so wonderful as to give me a reading December 11, 1943 and without payment… Appreciate also my membership card and the regular bulletins sent to me.
“As to my present physical and mental condition: It seems my physical condition has improved as you, through your reading, said it would likely do so, and that my mental condition might be of benefit to a better physical condition. I’m sure of this. The arthritis which the reading said seemed to be neuritis is better. I have no one to massage me after a hot bath, but must do without. I have tried hard to get Calamus Oil to help the neuritis, as your suggestion by the reading, by massaging, so will have to do without it also. Your reading has been deeply appreciated by me and feel a deep sympathy in your work.”
R2. 4/11/44 EC’s letter to Dr. George N. Coulter, D.O.: “We have a little lady whom I believe is worthy of some consideration, but from the circumstances, as I gather, she is not financially able to pay for anything. I would like to ask you to call and see her and let me know if your treatments might be any help to her in retaining, or gaining some better eyesight.
”…If you will let me know, I will pay for these treatments. Use your own judgment as to whether or not these treatments will be of help.”
R3. 4/26/44 [3461]‘s letter to EC: “For you to take up so much of your valuable and precious moments to write to me is or can be only the actions of a highly spiritual being and I know God watches over you… Tuesday, April 18, 1944 I received my first treatment from Doctor George N. Coulter, 18 East 41st St., N.Y.; another treatment Monday, April 24, 1944. On Friday I have another appointment. With assistance as I travel along I am able to reach his office, which is so important to me and which I feel is more comforting to me and the doctor too, for I feel it would be a great sacrifice to have the doctor treat me at my home. Each visit I record also the blessing of your efforts to assist and efforts to help. In the Old Testament lies open the great Book in which all things are recorded… I think in a week or so I can give one dollar… I believe the affliction of approaching blindness comes from the hardening of the arteries of the eyeball not the hardening of the eyeball itself. Probably some kind spirit will help.”
R4. 4/29/44 EC’s letter to [3461]: “I am glad to know that you are finding it possible to get down and see Dr. Coulter. I feel that you will get some relief, while there may not be a cure, I feel sure that you will be feeling a lot better very soon.
“I thank you for the nice things you say about us, but if the information as is presented through these channels, is what we think it is, that should be the natural reaction, don’t you think so?
“Hope and trust for the very best, and thanking you a lot for letting us hear from you.”
R5. 6/20/44 [3461]‘s letter to EC: “Have written before of my appreciation of your efforts to secure for me osteopathic treatments from Dr. George N. Coulter…who in giving me these treatments was always most patient and kind. During this time I received a letter from you telling me that there did not seem to be a cure for me as regards the hardening of the arteries of the eyes and feeling I care so little about anything else, I decided not to continue any more of the kindly help you and Dr. Coulter have endeavored to secure for me which, if possible, I hope God by my prayers will bless you both. Dr. […] [[3461]‘s penmanship illegible here] of West End Ave., N.Y. City, N.Y. has recently examined my eyes and found no further serious damage and for which I am thankful. He does not charge me for the once a year visit. He prescribes for me an iodine extract called Sanidad [?] which I take internally and have done so for many years. Of course I pray and try always to improve myself spiritually and try to help others but cannot do so financially.
“Our financial situation is not good. If you, dear Mr. Cayce, could ask in the spirit world if my securing a patent on an article, a very simple and perfect waterless cooker would yield beneficial returns financially, you and the Association would benefit. If I felt so confident I believe I could borrow enough to have the article patented.”
R6. 7/3/44 EC’s letter to [3461]: “I have yours of the 20th and I hope that you will follow through with the treatments with Dr. Coulter.
“Though, of course, if you feel like this is useless, why it can’t do much good. But you can only keep the body in the condition where the spirit and the mind may work through it to the better advantage.
“If you feel that the taking of the iodine extract is sufficient, I don’t blame you. Just know that we want to try to help.
“If your idea has something that can be patented, I certainly would carry through. This, I am sure, you can find out by writing to the patent office and getting the material and carrying it on through. If there is some question that you would like to have asked about it, where we might help, know that we will be glad to do it without any charge to you.”
R7. 7/7/44 [3461]‘s letter to EC: “Your personal and very kind letter affected me deeply, knowing what a very busy man you are. Instantly I lifted my eyes to heaven and prayed to God to watch over you. During the night I was thinking of you before the letter arrived and I thought if I should be able to patent at least one of my inventions, Mr. Cayce shall be remembered personally I feel. I certainly would want to pay Dr. Coulter for the three treatments and more if I would have wanted them for his kindness to me and those acquaintances who have tried to help me and my brother. Two things I wish to patent are of metal construction - one is of iron, the other is electrical so I would have to wait until the war is over. I believe I can manage to get the money for one patent, hoping for its success, remembering the good and unfortunate.”
R8. 7/20/44 EC’s letter to [3461]: “I don’t know that I could answer your query about the fireless cooker without attempting a reading on this, and this would be so far off you might not wish to wait so long.
“But offhand, apparently this is very much like something that is already on the market - or is it something entirely different? If, as you say, there are no screws or gadgets, apparently this is worthwhile. I would carry it farther - take it to someone in whom you have great confidence, and let them tell you just what you have. You surely have such a person among your friends.
“Thank you, and hoping that it may work, and that you gain much from it in every way.”
R9. 10/9/50 GD’s note: [3461] was contacted in an effort to update the New York mailing list. She marked “discontinue” regarding announcements of activities in her area, etc.
