This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 21st day of December, 1943, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3470], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the article in CORONET.

Time of Reading 3:40 to 3:55 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, California.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3470].

3. As we find, there are disturbing conditions in the physical forces of this body. These have to do with the nerve forces of the body, the control of the nerve energies. There has been some deterioration, and in the locomotory centers, we find that impulses become involuntary that should be voluntary or there is a form of agitans. These are results from some glandular disturbance and the lack of proper elements supplied to the body through the assimilation.

4. We find that operative measures for this disturbance would not be helpful or beneficial. However, there may come material aid by those applications that may be helpful to this nerve reflex condition indicated in locomotories and throughout the trunk portion of the body at times.

5. Then, these are the applications we would make in the present:

6. Every third day we would have a light Fume Bath, preferably using Witchhazel. This we would not use with any dry heat in the Cabinet, only the Fume Bath. Use two teaspoonsful of Witchhazel to the pint of water in the croup cup or an open kettle boiling in the Cabinet, as to allow the steam to settle over the body.

7. Afterwards we would have a brisk rubdown, not too severe but a gentle massage, especially in locomotory centers - 3rd dorsal, 6th dorsal - 3rd cervical to the 6th dorsal, the 12th dorsal to the end of the spine.

8. Following this massage, we would use this combination of oils to massage into these particular areas though it would be well if these were applied to all portions of the body for a better superficial circulation.

Nujol or Usoline…6 ounces, Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/2 ounce, Oil of Sassafras Root…1/4 ounce, Oil of Pine Needles…1/2 ounce.

9. These should be added in the order named. These will tend to separate. Shake together when ready to use. Pour what is to be used in an open container. Do not pour in hand from bottle, and do not pour back into the bottle that not used. Massage these thoroughly into the body.

10. Also twice each week we would use the Radio-Active Appliance to equalize the circulation.

11. Twice each week we would use the Wet Cell Appliance carrying one time Chloride of Gold Solution, the next time Spirits of Camphor.

12. Make the attachment for thirty minutes each time.

13. When the Gold Solution is used (in the proportions of one grain Chloride of Gold Sodium to each ounce of distilled water), attach the small plate to the 9th dorsal.

14. When the Spirits of Camphor is used (commercial strength) attach the small plate to the 2nd dorsal.

15. Each time the large plate, through which the Solution passes vibratorially to the body, should be attached to the umbilical and lacteal duct center - which on this body will be two fingers from the navel center to the right and three fingers up.

16. Each of these applications should also be followed by a massage.

17. Do these, and we will bring better conditions for this body.

18. Ready for questions.

19. (Q) Do you advise having teeth extracted to help condition? (A) No. Use Ipana toothpaste, and massage the gums with this.

20. (Q) What causes burning sensation in left groin? (A) The activities to the locomotory center, disintegration.

21. (Q) What causes my head to shake, and is there any cure for it? (A) Beginning of the agitans, as given.

Do these things indicated - and we will have better conditions.

R1. 1/18/44 [3470]‘s letter to EC: “No doubt you are wondering why you haven’t heard from me since my reading on December 21st. I have delayed writing you until I could locate someone who could help me with the treatments. Dr. Eldo Sprecker, [Eldo C. Sprecher, D.O.] after carefully going over your reading has agreed with your diagnosis as he has been giving me osteopathic treatments off and on for the past year or two.

“Although you didn’t give any specific name for the condition troubling me, you did come close to the trouble. My main trouble according to the neurologist in San Francisco is Tic Douloureux. He says it is a true tic, and the only treatment he could give me was alcohol injections. The pain is unbearable, so the past two years or more I have been compelled to keep my face injected. He has wanted to operate and cut the nerve, but I have refused to have this done, hoping I could find somewhere another solution. When I read about your wonderful power, I felt that this was my answer. The doctor has given me no hope at all that I could ever overcome this ailment, that it might go away for a few months, but that it always returned. Mr. Cayce, if your prescribed treatments do relieve me of this trouble, I shall ever be grateful, and I know quite a few people with the same condition, and without relief, life isn’t worth living for any of us. Eventually the alcohol injections wear out, and an operation, which leaves the patient in very bad shape, is the last resort. I pray God your advice may not only help me, but others as well. I have had this trouble at least ten years.

“I have just finished a letter to Mr. Godfrey ordering the Appliances, but I don’t know just what to do about the Fume bath. You didn’t tell me how long to stay in the bath. I am afraid the price of a cabinet is prohibitive, and I am wondering if I can’t improvise one. Perhaps you can give me some idea as to just how to do this.

“I am going to follow out all your suggestions as nearly as possible. It is difficult in this small town, but Dr. Sprecher will get me started, and give instructions to one of the family as to massages, and using the machine, and I am hoping we shall be able to manage in this way, as your treatments call for about seven different periods per week, and that is beyond my means, even if I could find a professional masseuse.

“Thank you, Mr. Cayce, for your kindness, and I am going to try and help myself by holding a good thought.”

R2. 1/26/44 EC’s letter to [3470]: “Thank you for yours of the 18th. I do hope you will follow out with the suggestions as are given in your information. I know of a number of cases, ninety-nine percent, if they did what was suggested, have responded. I know you are anxious to get some relief.

“‘Tic’ is something to be reckoned with. Be sure to use the Appliance just as is indicated in directions, keeping the plates very clean. Usually the quantity of the ingredients put in the Fume bath regulates about what time it takes. These are not expensive if you buy one to use in your home, or you can of course, have them administered at any good hydrotherapy place.

“Do let us hear from you from time to time, as we are most anxious to know that you get real results.”

R3. 3/7/44 [3470]‘s letter: “In answer to your request for reports concerning progress of your patients, I wrote Mr. Cayce sometime ago telling him what my osteopathic doctor thought of the diagnosis. You perhaps have that letter on file. In it I told Mr. Cayce that I was suffering with tic douloureux. Of course, that is a very bad form of nerve trouble, and while Mr. Cayce didn’t mention tic by name, he did seem to get at the bottom of my trouble so far as I can know. It seems strange. I have never had irritable nerves, and have certainly never been considered a neurotic type of person. In fact, I have always been quite calm, but my nerves are very unsteady, and especially at times. My head shakes, and my family tells me it has for ten years or longer, but I was unaware of this until about three years ago. Whether or not this shaking has any connection with tic or not, I am unable to say. Some doctors have told me that went with tic douloureux, and others say it doesn’t. I know of a few persons who have tic, and none of them have had this trouble.

“My machines, or Appliances arrived two weeks ago, and I have been following all directions to the best of my ability. However, I am worried about the massages, as there doesn’t seem to be a masseuse in … My husband has been trying to massage my back, but he knows absolutely nothing about this sort of thing. I sent for a book on massage and it arrived today, but was printed in 1921, and besides that, it is too technical for the layman. Will I get any benefit from the Appliances without the massages?

“Would one osteopathic treatment per week be a help, or harmful? Any suggestions you can give me would be very kindly received. I realize you have your hands full, and I dislike troubling you, as I suppose everyone does the same thing, but I do want to get all the possible benefit from these treatments that I can.

“Going back again to the diagnosis, Dr. Sprecher came to the house to give me my first treatment with the Wet Cell Appliance, and we were all surprised and pleased to find that the 9th dorsal where the copper plate was to be placed, was the same dorsal that I had complained of to the doctor the past two years. He had told me months ago that that spot was where my trouble in the left hip was coming from. Mr. […] asked him just what he thought of the diagnosis, and he remarked that he thought it was very good. I know he did think so, for a few days ago a person unknown to me called me on the phone and asked about Mr. Cayce; said he heard of him through Dr. Sprecher, and that the doctor had told her to call me for information. This lady was Mrs. […], and she has written Mr. Cayce, but has had no reply as yet. It is concerning her son, and she is very anxious to hear.

“I am so happy to hear that Mr. Cayce has taken a short rest, although it was a very short one. The dear man, I pray for him every night. He is doing a wonderful work, and may the good Lord spare him to humanity for many, many years to come. You folks at the Association are also remembered in my prayers, God bless you…”

B1. 9/19/43 [3470]‘s letter to EC: “Thank you for your prompt answer to my letter. I have just received the data, and am certainly very much interested. Your letter was forwarded to me in San Francisco where I was under the care of a specialist.

“The doctors seem able to give me only temporary relief, and life isn’t worth living in this condition, for the pain is unbearable.

“For the past two years I have been a Unity student, and I realize that God is the only power in our lives. However, I seem to be unable to overcome my trouble, though I am certain that my faith in the healing power of God has helped me in many ways. When I read about your wonderful work in CORONET, I remarked to my family, ‘This at last is God’s answer to my prayers. I know Mr. Cayce can cure me.’ I wrote you immediately, seeking your help.

“All my life I have had an interest in psychical research, and enjoy reading any books which come within my reach. I am looking forward with great pleasure to receiving your Monthly Bulletin, Monthly Research Paper, and printed booklets. As my knowledge of psychical research is very limited, I probably would not be much help to you as an active member at present, but later I do hope to become one.

“I am enclosing application for Associate Membership, together with check for $20.00. I am very disappointed that I may have to wait so long for a reading. I note that in emergency cases you do make an exception, and although I do not want to crowd in ahead of others in poor health, I do ask you to believe me when I tell you that this is an emergency case. It doesn’t mean life or death however, but it does mean excruciating pain, which only an operation or torturous local treatments every few months will alleviate. This special kind of operation would leave me in bad shape for the rest of my life. Therefore I have fought against it for the past ten years. How much longer I can put this off, I do not know. So you see, Mr. Cayce, I do need your help as soon as possible. I promise to cooperate with you in every way possible. I truly believe that with God’s help, you will be able to locate the cause of my trouble, and thereby work a complete cure.
