GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes. Now as we find, the deterioration of the nerve and muscular forces - especially as indicated through the lower limbs has been of long standing. There has been such destructive forces as to cause nerve ends to become almost eliminated.
-
There can be much help, if certain types of applications are made. While these will be long and arduous, if the mind of the entity is set in that direction there may be brought much better conditions for the body, and much help may be given.
-
To be sure, these are partially karmic conditions, yet much of these may be met in this experience.
-
These were brought on by a high temperature and a condition that took away the nerve forces by direction of the lymph centers through the areas that supply activity to the lower extremities - activity as well as muscle and nerve building supplies.
-
These, then, are the manners in which aid may be given:
-
First begin with prayer in self. Pray to be shown - by prayer, to be shown - whether there be the answer within self or not.
-
Then, through deep meditation, even leaving the body almost in same, find there the answer - through the raising of the kundaline forces in the body itself, from the cells within the Leydig gland, so as to carry energies through the body. Get the answer as to whether now, here, we would apply physical conditions for the benefit, for the correction.
-
Then, when this direction has been received (that is to begin):
-
Use at least once a week an Epsom Salts Bath. Put at least six to ten pounds of Epsom Salts in twenty to twenty-five gallons of water, thoroughly dissolved and just as warm as the body can well stand to be put in same. If this is prepared so that a bubble bath may be given with same, it would be well. If not use the massage of the limbs, of the spine, especially in the lower portion of lumbar and throughout the sacral areas. Not rubbing with a cloth or an irritant as to produce counter-irritation, but just with the hand on the flesh. Take at least thirty minutes to give such a Bath. Follow this with an oil rub using this combination of oils, adding these in the order named:
Russian White Oil or Nujol or the like as the base…4 ounces, Rose Water…1 ounce, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Olive Oil…1 ounce, Oil of Sassafras Root…1/4 ounce, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/2 ounce.
-
These will separate but shake them together before being used, and pour into a saucer. Dipping the fingers in same, massage - beginning at the toes and feet, the ankles, the limbs; massaging thoroughly at least to the 9th dorsal, more thoroughly in the points of the hips, as in those areas of the extremity of the pelvic bone, around the base of the spine, in the coccyx center, the sacral and lumbar centers. These do thoroughly. Take at least an hour to give this massage, and let this ever be not some thing just to be hurried through with but as something to be accomplished and done for a reason - the reason being that attained in the periods of meditation.
-
Do the first things first. Don’t get the cart before the horse. Begin with self. Begin with the thought of what the body would do with itself if the improvements were such as for the body even to be able to walk with crutches. What would you do with it? Would it be to the glory of self, to the glory of a person, or to the glory of the Creative Forces in self?
-
In the diet, keep to those things that will bring good eliminations - as in the fresh raw vegetables often, including a great deal of watercress and other such foods that are often used as garnishes but are really the more helpful as the food needed in the body.
-
Do that.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Would it be possible for me ever to walk? (A) This answer must come within self, as has been indicated. Do that, and when the treatment has been followed for a period of twelve months, if it has been applied consistently and persistently for that length of time, we will give further instructions.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports & Follow-up
R1. 12/10/43 [3498]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I received your reading of November 12th and I have already begun to apply your treatments. I am praying persistently to be shown the way and not to neglect my treatments, but I have been as yet unable to find or locate a place where they sell peanut oil, which was one of the requirements given in the prescription for an oil rub or massage. Could you possibly let me know where to secure this? I am determined with God’s help to keep up the requirements stated in your reading after which I was again to seek for further directions from you.
Please ask God in your prayers to give me the strength and endurance to continue on the road to recovery. Thanking you… I will let you know from time to time about my progress…”
R2. 12/16/43 EC’s ltr. to [3498]: ”…Thank you for yours of the 10th. I think you will be able to obtain the peanut oil either through your druggist or through your grocer from the Planters Peanut Company, Suffolk, Va. Either one of them can obtain it for you, and it is the best way to get it.
Am glad that you are undertaking to follow the suggestions, for I sincerely believe through the grace of God that you will get real help. We will appreciate your letting us hear from you from time to time.
Hoping you will soon be able to get all the treatments together…”
R3. 3/17/44 [3498]‘s ltr. to EC: ”…I received your letter from the Society of Feb. 12th and would like my Associate Membership renewed in November when my other expires.
In my reading given on the 12th day of November 1943, it told me to follow the prescribed treatment consistently and persistently for a period of 12 months, then to have another reading whereby I would receive further instructions. I would like you to book me for another reading at that time and I will send you a check for my membership fund before that date.
In your recent Bulletin you mentioned sending a report on the progress of our cases from time to time.
I have prayed deeply and earnestly for guidance and directions on how to improve my condition. I am also using the methods given in my reading. It is necessary for me to apply these treatments myself at present and I am doing the same to the uppermost of my ability. Sometimes I get rather discouraged because I haven’t seen more improvement, then again in little ways I do feel that I have gained ground, although outwardly no improvement is discernible. After I have taken an Epsom Salt bath, the upper part of my back has a dull tingle and ache all through it and I know by constantly applying the oils which were advised for me to use, the muscles on the calves of my legs seem to be developing a little - so here’s hoping and praying for even greater results.
Perhaps you might be interested in this - Last summer my father who is 89 years old had a great deal of trouble with his feet. He suffered severe pains and he had a Dr. come in who said it was hardening of the arteries, the circulation seemed to have stopped almost entirely. He gave him medical treatment which seemed to help considerably and also advised soaking in Epsom Salts and keeping his feet as warm as possible - the pain was intense and his feet were most always icy cold. After I had my reading and secured the oils advised for massaging myself I would massage his feet every day (now about 3 times a week). The circulation has improved wonderfully, he is taking no medicine, rarely complains of his feet being cold - no soreness or pain in his toes and can get around much better. If this was all the reading ever accomplished I would feel well repaid.
May your prayers be with me…”
R4. 3/28/44 EC’s ltr. to [3498]: ”…We are making the appointment for your check-physical reading for Wednesday afternoon, November 15th, 1944, EWT, between 3:30 and 4:30.
I am so glad to know that you are following through with your treatments. It is so discouraging to us when someone gets a reading, and then doesn’t carry through the suggestions given. I’m very happy, too, that your father is being helped. We hope that some day all of the general suggestions will be available to every one, so that all people will benefit by the information given in the readings.
We are still very, very busy and while answering letters is a pleasure, there are many that require early instructions and they must come first. Do let us hear from you from time to time. We would like a report on your case for our files for research work. This will make a more complete record for those who will index the information for general use.
About one week before the time for your check reading let us have any questions you care to have asked, listed in the order of their importance. Be sure to let us know just where you will be - exact address at the hour of the reading. Do set aside the time of the appointment as a quiet hour of meditation and prayer…”
R5. 10/25/44 [3498]‘s ltr.to EC: ”…I was to have a check physical reading on Wednesday afternoon November 15, 1944 between 3:30 and 4:30. I wish you would cancel this appointment for me as circumstances beyond my control would not allow me to continue the treatment which you advised me to take in my last reading. I had to go to the hospital for an operation on my breast in Sept. and since then I have of course been unable to take the Epsom Salt baths and Oil rubs which were suggested in my last reading. I was anxious to carry on the suggested treatment but you can readily see how I was stopped. My last reading said I was to apply this treatment consistently for twelve months and then receive further instructions - as I have been unable to do this I think it best not to have the check-reading.
Thanking you for all your kindnesses and may God richly bless your work and give you back an abundance of health…”
R6. 2/28/45 [3498]‘s comment in response to A.R.E. form for disposition of individual deposit accounts and list of available printed materials [See 3451-2, Par. R1 for a copy of the entire form]:
…(X) Accept the amount which I have on deposit with you as a contribution to the work of the Association…
…I would like to make these comments: and suggestions:
“I was dreadfully sorry to hear of Mr. Cayce’s recent passing, and whatever I have given into the Society I wish you to keep toward your research work.” [3498] Penna.

Background
B1. 8/23/43 [3498]‘s letter to EC: ”…I have just finished reading ‘There Is A River’. I really feel you have something God-given and I wondered if you could possibly give me a reading and see if anything at all could be done for me.
I am 43 years old and have never walked, although I was in perfect health up to the age of 6 months, even now I hardly know what it means to have a sick day. I have entire use of my body but my trouble seems from my hips down.
I lead a very active life from my wheel-chair - being a piano teacher by profession. Teach a Sunday school class, play piano in S.S., have a Junior choir and at present directing a Senior choir. I have always endeavored to give my best to the Master.
My parents have done everything they heard of almost to help me and nothing brought results. I wondered if you would give me a reading and tell me if there is any hopes of me walking?, if not, I would resign myself to the inevitable.
I am not an unhappy person in fact find life very rich and full - but if something could be done I would dearly love to walk…”
B2. 11/1/43 Questions:
- What caused my condition?
- Would it be possible for me ever to walk?
- If so, would it be necessary for me to follow a prescribed course of treatment?
- What character of treatment?
- Would my lower limbs develop to normal proportions, if I were ever able to walk?
- Is there any other physical condition which needs attention?
