This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of December, 1943, in accordance with request made by the wife - Mrs. […], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Born March 27, 1916, 12:01 A. M., Redlands, California. Time of Reading 3:45 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Calif.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of the entity now known as or called […] - in the present not a prisoner, but in the land of the living though quite ill, but attended by natives. He should recover.

3. In giving the influences in the experiences of this entity, many conditions, many experiences are to be considered - from that termed the astrological aspects, though this is a poor term for the meaning of the consciousness of the entity, as well as the sojourns of the entity in the earth’s plane that are a portion of the personality of the present entity.

4. These we choose from the records here with the desire and purpose that this information be a helpful experience for the entity; enabling the entity to better fulfil the purposes for which it entered this present sojourn.

5. As will be seen in the material sojourns, the entity’s life follows a pattern that should hold through this present experience.

6. When the astrological sojourns are considered or the consciousness other than three-dimensional as correlated with the material sojourns, we find:

7. The entity is one having a pleasing personality; one with a great deal of political tact in its activities.

8. One that has a manner or mien in keeping with the tenets “Live and let live.” This does not indicate that the entity is extravagant in any sense, but it is rather as the version of the entity in that “As ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them.”

9. Astrologically we find Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Mars as the ruling influences with the entity.

10. One with high mental abilities.

11. One with those characteristics of the Jupiterian, being rather of the universal consciousness and always taking the part of those less fortunate than self.

12. One well given in affection, and making friends in its activities one with another - which is standing in well also in the present environs.

13. In Mars, while anger is a part of the experience at times, the entity has control over self well in such relationships. And again we would give that one without a temper is not worth much, but one not able to control the temper is worth a great deal less.

14. In its activities, the entity is ever busy in that having to do with economy or associations with other lands, and especially will this be true if there is the completion of physical conditions in the present and the return to that ye call civilization. But he is doing a very good job of civilizing, even though unconscious has been his part often of late.

15. As to the appearances in the earth, we find that these have been quite varied; but as indicated the entity is one given to a real pattern.

16. Before this the entity was in the land of the present nativity during the reconstruction period.

17. Then in the name William Cowper, the activities were well known in writing, the contributions to the purposes and ideals in those periods.

18. Before that the entity was in England during that period that followed the early Crusade.

19. The entity was active in reconstruction in the land where there were great differences of opinion as to political and religious tendencies.

20. Then in the name Carlson Carlington, the entity contributed to the activities that brought about a greater unity of purpose in those groups which the entity had joined.

21. Before that the entity was in the Egyptian land when there were those periods of spreading the tenets and teachings, where the efforts were united in those groups from the Mongoloid land, the Golden City, the land of Saad, and Egypt, when there was a uniting of purpose for the cause of one.

22. The entity acted in the capacity of preparing the tenets to which each group would subscribe, according to the activities of each of the groups of that land.

23. The entity’s name was Tek-elar-ken.

24. Before that the entity was in Atlantis just before the first upheavals.

25. The entity was among the children of the Law of One as opposed to the activities of the sons of Belial.

26. The entity acted in the capacity as the prince to the ruling forces in the land, and ever stood for those tenets of truth, for the upbuilding, for the regeneration of those peoples that were partly as things - or those not capable in mind to care for their own activities.

27. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

28. Keep first those tenets as from the beginning in the activities, that in the present may be in giving the truths of life, light, liberty, union of purpose. These are to be the activities, the work then of the entity in the present, and may there be those hopes fulfilled in the entity’s presenting the causes of other lands to those that will be in authority during the periods of reconstruction following the present activities.

30. (Q) May we be given the name of the land where he now is? (A) This will not be given in the present. If there is the completion, the gaining of health, we find that by the 15th of January or the 1st of February, 1944, there should be word received from him.

R2. 3/13/44 Father, [5369]‘s letter:

Mr. Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment Virginia Beach, Virginia

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Under the membership of Mrs. […] you will have record of the life reading for [3507], Dec. 13th, 1943. Since the reading we have no word or any indication of any sort as to his condition, circumstances, location or whereabouts. For the sake of his mother, who has been ill for the past seven weeks, I am inquiring as to the possibility of a check reading or a health reading for […].

My own two readings are set down for July 17th and July 19th, which from your recent letter indicates that my membership carries for one year from the dates indicated unless I get additional service within that year. At any rate, I am sending a check in the amount of $20. for a check or health reading on […], whichever seems more likely to be best.

The report should be sent to me although this is being done at the request of Mrs. […].

We have a strong belief and some supporting evidence on which we base our faith and hope, and we trust you may be able to take this up soon for the reason stated above.

To you may I express appreciation and state my belief that you are doing a most useful work for those in spiritual as well as physical distress.

R3. 7/19/44 Extract from his father’s Life Reading, 5369-3:

Q. “How may I best help my son [3507], supposedly killed in action November 13, 1942, in the Solomons area?” A. “There is little that can be helped in the present. Should there be the message from the natives where he was cared for, and is being cared for, then there may be help. Nothing may be contributed other than the prayer, the hope at the present time.”

R4. 12/18/47 GD’s letter to his father, Mr. [5369]:

Mr. [5369] …, California Dear Mr. [5369]

No doubt you have received from time to time some literature explaining the manner in which we are attempting to disseminate the good in the records left by Edgar Cayce.

We haven’t heard from you direct since the verification of your appointments for a physical and a life reading in July 1944. Mr. Cayce always wanted to keep in touch with those he attempted to help. The Association also is very desirous of seeing that each individual who obtained a reading gets as much good from it as possible, and that the good be separated for general use wherever it is most needed.

Of course your primary interest at the time was the welfare of your beloved son lost in the war. We presume that you have not had proof of his physical survival or you would have notified us; however, we trust that both you and the young man’s mother and wife have had the blessed assurance of his spiritual survival, with the personal proof for each of you that “whether we live or whether we die, we do so in the Lord.” Edgar Cayce’s work is a living testimony of this fact.

Would you be so kind as to take the time to write us about your life reading and […]‘s. Just how well did they describe your characteristics and abilities? Did you feel that the reading was talking about YOU and no one else? Any report that you or Mrs. […] can give us in this respect will be invaluable in bringing our files up to date.

To save your time in making a detailed report on your physical reading, I am enclosing a blank which I’m asking that you please fill out and return immediately (even if you can not write a letter now about the life readings). Your cooperation in this matter will enable us to proceed with the indexing which is so vital to our research program.

R5. 6/7/48 Father [5369]‘s letter:

Mr. Hugh Lynn Cayce Virginia Beach, Va.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

Order is enclosed for a copy of Sugrue’s book “Stranger in the Earth”, autographed if possible.

In a letter you asked me whether or not we had had any further reports on our son, [3507], reported killed in action November 13, 1942.

There has never been any further word or any indication of survival. The Navy has not given and seems indisposed to give any details of the action or the reports of the officers present during the action and sinking of the Atlanta.

Like others we have waited and hoped and become reconciled.

Dear Dr. Cayce:

I just finished reading Sugrue’s book of your life, “There is a River”. It is needless for me to say how much I enjoyed reading it. I thought perhaps you could help me, as you have helped many others. Here is my problem and if you feel I am worthy helping, I would enjoy hearing from you.

My husband [3507], born March 27th, 1916 in Redlands, California at 12:01 a.m. was supposedly killed in action on November 13, 1942 in the Solomons area. He graduated from the Naval Academy in 1938 and was one of the top men of his class. Why I mention this is because he was very brilliant and I always tried to improve my self, so as to be on the same plain as he. But I was never able to attain this goal.

I am very interested in obtaining his life reading as well as my own. I was born on May 7, 1916 in Columbus, Ohio in the early evening. My maiden name is […]. We have one child […] born March 20th, 1943 in Long Beach, California as 12:01 p.m.

There is some question as to whether my husband is really dead. I have yet to find any one who saw his body before the ship USS Atlanta was sunk. After talking to people who were there, we have come to the conclusion he was either blown over the side of the ship into the water, or his body was so badly mangled it was not recognized. I do not think of you as a fortune teller and so I am not asking you to tell me whether he is alive or not but I am interested in trying to get my self in the same plain his soul is in. I might add, that we both were Sunday school teachers at the Central Union Church, in Honolulu.

If there is anything you can do to help me I will be sincerely grateful and will always remember you in my prayers.

Dear Mrs. […]

I have yours of the eleventh. I am glad you enjoyed the book “There Is a River”. I am mailing you under separate cover the booklet that tells how and why one becomes a member of the Association to obtain a reading. We are also sending the Life Reading data.

It would be a most interesting experience to have the reading of your husband. I have never taken but one life reading of one who has passed on. We are, however, many months in advance with our appointments but we will be very glad to hear from you and we certainly hope that we will be the means of a real service.
