GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes. As we find, there are rather serious and rather aggravating disturbances with this body. These have to do with impingements that have existed in cerebrospinal system, and especially the effects produced upon the general nerve system through the fifth nerve, and the tic that has been a part of the experience. The removal of nerve has not removed the sources of pressures, and these bring a general aggravation to the body at times whenever there is a certain change in atmospheric pressure.
-
These applications as we find will aid, they will not cure - they will aid in keeping down the disturbance, if applied correctly and consistently.
-
First we would have a series of osteopathic treatments with special reference to the centers in the 6th dorsal, 3rd cervical and the lumbar axis. These specifically need attention; not making adjustments all at once, but relaxing the body and making the adjustment as soon as the body is sufficiently relaxed that these may be made.
-
Begin using each day when ready to retire the Radio-Active Appliance, that will bring equalization of pressures through the body. No vibration will be perceptible to the body from the use of this except at times. For it is using the vibration of the body itself. Do not allow the Appliance to be used on others while it is being used on self. Make the attachments for an hour each evening. Put the Appliance in ice before it is to be used, not letting the water come over the top of the Appliance ever.
-
Do these and we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Can this source of disturbance be seen in the fluoroscope, or X-ray, or in other tests? (A) If there is the correct interpretation it will be found in the 6th dorsal, the 3rd cervical and the 4th lumbar.
-
(Q) What causes pain in face when body is lying on right side, or upright with head turned in direct right angle for a few minutes? (A) As indicated, the variation in the pressure as the atmosphere is produced by the manner in which the body rests upon the bed or couch.
-
(Q) What causes the dizzy spells and falling? (A) These come from the unbalanced circulation, and will be aided by the corrective measures osteopathically and by the vibratory rate of the body itself being changed.
-
(Q) What causes the ear to itch and crack open on the outer rim? (A) This is caused from too great a quantity of the flow of impulse to this portion of the body, owing to the nerve changes wrought through the manner in which the nerves were tied together in the operative forces.
The massage should help, though at times it will be found irritating, but not when once set in their correct vibrations, through the combination of the equalization in the balancing of the nerve forces in cerebrospinal and sympathetic systems. Don’t treat only the cerebrospinal system. Do treat the patches of the sympathetic nerves also in the areas indicated.
-
(Q) Is the periodical scalp condition extreme dandruff or eczema, has it any connection with the facial trouble, and what will relieve the condition? (A) All from the circulation, arising from the unbalanced condition in the body. Use a good cleansing agent for the scalp, with a good tonic afterward. Olive Oil shampoo would be well for this body.
-
We are through with this body.

R1. 1/7/44 [3517]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Arctic Crescent Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I know you must have been wondering why you have not heard from me since I received my reading, and I shall try to explain.
First, I was somewhat stunned by the reading, as I had suspected some of what you had told me, but none of the doctors ever seemed to consider the disturbances I had in the spinal column to have much bearing on the facial condition.
Then, I had one particular osteopath in Cincinnati whom I wanted to work on me, and it was very difficult to get in touch with him and allow enough time to break this gently to him.
Now, we are started, and we are going to carry out your directions to the very letter, with the great hope that I will find relief.
We have ordered in the Radio-Active machine, and just as soon as it is received, I shall faithfully follow directions. In the meantime, the doctor is treating me in the areas you prescribed, and he, also, will cooperate to the fullest extent.
NOW here is the problem of the day, as it stands now. Will you please book me for a check reading, or another full reading sometime in the next six weeks to two months. The doctor feels that he will not be able to go any further without a number of questions answered which were not taken up in the reading. He wants to allow that time to just relax and massage, and then it will be necessary to have further information before we can go any further.
If you will advise me just when I am booked, I shall send you the list of questions as soon as we have them worked out, and shall also send the money order at that time.
Hoping to hear from you soon, and thanks again and again, I am
Sincerely, [3517]
R2. 2/10/44 [3517]‘s letter:
Dear Mr. Casey, Here is a letter that has been long in coming, much, much too long. It is not that I haven’t thought of you several times every day, but I have just hesitated to write until now. I truly have been wretched, and just hate to write when I cannot do other than complain.
First, I wanted to tell you what we have been doing since you gave me the Reading. After having had so very many doctors work on me, and have them all give up, I naturally hesitated approaching my osteopath, especially since he has made an effort to keep out of this, as he felt it was none of his business since I had so many medical men on the case.
However, when you prescribed osteopathic treatments, I went to him, explained what I had done, and told him if he was interested, and willing to cooperate with us, I would bring the reading to him. I did this as Dr. Mulford John W. Mulford, D.O.] is a bit of a skeptic, and I wanted to give him full opportunity to refuse, before giving him the reading.
As he was agreeable, I took the Reading in to him a few days later, and it was really amazing to me, knowing Dr. Mulford as I do, how very impressed he was with what you had told us. The minute he red what you had to say, he said that the three spots you mentioned had always been a source of trouble, and that at least he knew definitely there was disorder there. Whether it could possibly connect with the facial condition, he would not want to say, but if you could sit down there in Virginia Beach, and I up here in Cincinnati, and you could tell me as accurately as that, just where there was trouble, then he was willing to try anything you told us.
He ordered the Radio-Active machine, and I have been using it as faithfully as it is possible for me to do. At first it seemed to have more effect on me than it has recently, but there might be some reason for that. At first I would become very drowsy, and that alone is something for me, Mr. Casey, as I have had so much trouble sleeping these past four years. The effects are not as strong lately, but I am still getting results, and it is because of getting some natural sleep that I feel better I do believe.
Of course there are so many, many things we should like to know in connection with the condition. There is so much to be covered that Dr. Mulford does not feel was covered in the reading, and so many questions to be answered, that we naturally are quite anxious to see April 19th come. In the meantime, we will continue to carry out your instructions to the letter, and hope for results.
I just wonder, since the Readings are quite a bit shorter than they used to be, if it would be better for me to have another complete Reading, instead of a check Reading. What do you think?
Mr. Casey, I cannot tell you how much your work has meant to me. At least it has given me hope, and that alone is something.
You have no idea how anxious I am to see October 10th come as that is the time set for my Life Reading, and I can scarcely wait. I am so very, very interested in that work, and look forward to having my Reading. I am particularly interested form a vocational standpoint, but also from other points too. I cannot help but wonder whether the answer to this facial condition might show up in the Reading. I mean as to why I have it, and maybe trace back to the start of the cause.
Well, Mr. Casey, this has been a long drawn out story about ME, but I wanted to keep you advised as much as possible as to what is happening up at this end. I would certainly give most anything to get to Virginia Beach, just for the pleasure of meeting you, and having the privilege of talking to you personally for a bit.
Ira Wollermann speaks so highly of you, and the group around you, that I really feel as though I have known you all for a long while. Maybe someday I will be able to see you, but until then, please know that I am more than grateful that I have been brought into association with you, and how very much I appreciate what you have done for me.
Sincerely, [3517]
R3. 4/14/44 [3517]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cause Artic Crescent Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Casey:
As I have a Check Reading coming up Wednesday, April 19th, I am listing below the the questions the doctors and I desire to have answered. These are given in the order of importance, and it is up to the discretion of the attendant as to whether you have previously answered them in the reading.
Is there a Cure? If so, What?
Has treatment been given correctly? If not, where have errors been made?
Will the ideas my other doctor has in mind for me for this summer prove successful?
Please trace back to origin of this trouble.
What should be done when radio-active machine cannot be used for full hour at a stretch or it is necessary to skip a night?
What is the trouble at the coccyx?
What is the cause, and the cure for the bad gum condition?
Are the two mole-like lumps appearing on upper lip connected with trouble, and is it safe to have them removed?
Thank you so very, very much, Mr. Casey, for the check reading, and please know how grateful I am to you. I shall anxiously await the report.
Check for ten dollars will be forwarded to you before the end of the month.
Sincerely [3517]

B1. 10/13/43 [3517]‘s AIR MAIL SPECIAL DELIVERY letter:
Mr. Edgar Casey Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Casey:
Please forgive me for bursting upon you so abruptly, but I am desperate - truly, sincerely desperate.
After having read of your wonderful work, and your gifted power, I am turning to you with the sincere belief that you are the one person who can solve my problem.
Ira Wollermann, who spent some time with you in recent months, is a true friend of mine, and has urged me to write an Air Mail Special to you as he believes, as I do, that you can help me.
Mr. Casey, for going on four years I have been almost out of my mind with pain. I have some peculiar type of facial neuralgia, or an obscure case of tic douloureux, but the doctors have never been able to give a true diagnosis, and I am almost at wits end.
To give you an idea of the seriousness of my case, let me tell you I have been in the hospital five times. I have had five minor types of surgical treatments, or operations, and two VERY major operations. One, a quite serious brain operation, and the other a deep sinus. Twelve specialists have had an active part in my case, and at least twice as many more have sat in on the case and done research. None of them has even ever claimed to be sure they were putting their fingers on the basic trouble. It has completely baffled all of them, each has tried in some way to help, and has hoped he was getting at the root of the trouble, and all were willing to admit they just don’t know”.
Mr. Casey, I am trying to show you how sincere I am in my plea for help. YOU can tell us what the trouble is. Don’t think I am exaggerating my case to win your attention, as I truly am not. The doctors tell me there are cases in the asylums for malady of this type while even not as severe. In the medical profession this pain is commonly referred to as the “suicide pain”, and I can well understand why. Yes, there was even a time when I was weak enough to consider it, but I am past that danger now. I want to live to be an old, old woman, but I want to be able to live a useful life. A life worth living, not a hell on earth.
My last operation was in June. By December the doctors will know if it is going to be successful. From all indications so far, it has not been. If they decide I have not improved they will try another operation, only hoping it will give me relief. That is why Ira Wollermann urged me to get this off to you so urgently, before another operation was performed.
Will you, Mr. Casey, help me? Will you give me a reading so that we can know just what we are working on, instead of groping around in the dark? I know you have probably received many requests as desperate, but I am sure none could be more sincere.
Also, Mr. Casey, I hope I am not being too selfish if I ask you to help me find myself, I know there is a place for me in the world. I know I have a right to have a successful life as a member of this great Universe, but I can’t seem to find myself. There is something meant for me, I was meant to have a more successful, a fuller life, but I have bungled it somewhere. I know my physical life has retarded me, but what is this urge driving me to? I am in my thirties now, and if I am going to find myself I should be starting, but continually I seem to face solid walls. I want to be a success, and here I am, just a little stenographer at twenty-five dollars a week. Could you advise me?
Any, any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated you can be sure, Mr. Casey, and I will be holding my breath till I hear from you.
Sincerely, [3517]
B2. 10/15/43 EC’s letter:
Miss [3517] …, Ohio
Dear Miss [3517]
I have yours of the 13th. I certainly can sympathize with you for your disturbance. I don’t suppose there are many things that are much more exasperating than a bad case of tic. Whether we can be of help or not, I don’t know. We have had some cases where relief has been gotten. We have others who have not responded at all. Had your physician ever suggested to you that you might try Cobra-venom? The first possible period that we could give you is the morning of December 13. If you want to try that, fill out one of the blanks in the back of the booklet that we are sending you under separate cover. Doubtless, Mr. Wollermann has told you that we are primarily a research organization and one becomes a member before we could make an appointment. On your blank where it is marked “This reading is to be give for date”, put in the date, Dec 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 EWT. Hoping then that we may be of a real service, I am,
Sincerely, Edgar Cayce
B3. 10/19/43 [3517]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Artic Crescent Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce,
I have just received your lovely letter, and I truly cannot tell you how very, very much I appreciate your prompt reply, to say nothing of the fact that you are giving me a reading so soon. Particularly, I am grateful, as just a few days ago Mr. Wollermann told me he had heard from you, and how very much swamped you are for readings at the present time. Shall I just say that I shall be eternally grateful, and I feel that you really have my interest at heart - which means so much.
You are most sincere in telling me that you do not know if you can help me or not, - that you have had some who responded, and others who did not. The basic problem in my case seems to be to learn just what I have. It is not true tic, as that is spasmodic pain, while mine has been continual since the day it struck, almost four years ago. Please be assured that I realize this is simply an experiment, and let us say that you are trying, - which after all, is the best that can be said of anyone.
Your inquiry in your letter as to trying Cobra-venom is most interesting, and I am trying to track it down to see if it has been applied to me. Having had twelve specialists working on me, it is rather difficult to know just exactly what has taken place. However, I have investigated the Cobra-venom, and it seems to me a likely experiment.
Mr. Cayce, while this is a just a personal letter, and I am fully aware of the fact that I must go through the Research Association for any bookings, I do want you to know how very interested I am in the work you are doing. I have the utmost faith in matters such as this, and am much interested in learning more about it.
Just as soon as it is humanly possible, I should like to be booked for a Life Reading. This is the most interesting research work I have ever heard of, and I do want to take part in it.
I am awaiting receipt of the booklet, enlisting me as a member of the organization, and shall forward the information requested, together with a Money Order, just as soon as my forms arrive.
Thank you, thank you a million times, Mr. Cayce, and please know how anxiously I am awaiting December 13th.
Sincerely, [3517]
B4. 11/29/43 [3517]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Casey Artic Circle Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Mr. Casey,
My Physical Reading will be given Monday, December 13th, at 10:30. I am writing to give you the list of questions I should like answered if they are not taken care of in the body of the reading.
Also, I wish to advise that unless I notify you to the contrary, I shall be at my place of business during the time of the reading. This is on the third floor of the … Building, in downtown …
Below are the eight questions I should like answered. Of course, as I will not be present at the reading, I am leaving it up to your attendants to pick out the ones which are not answered in the thorough diagnosis you give at the beginning of your reading.
- What is the direct method of Cure?
- After the diagnosis is given, can you tell whether the trouble can be seen with the aid of a fluoroscope or X-ray, or by tests, in order to show the doctors what you have told me?
- What is the reaction causing pain in the face when the body is lying on right side? Also what is the cause when in upright position but with head turned to direct right angle for a period of a few minutes?
- What reaction took place after the brain operation to cause the pain to change character, and seem to spread farther into the neck and shoulder?
- The Fifth Nerve has been severed from the brain, but why is the face not completely “dead”?
- What is causing the dizzy spells, and falling?
- What is causing the ear to itch and crack open on the outer rim?
- Is the periodical scalp condition extreme dandruff or an eczema, and can it have any connection with the facial trouble?
