This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 13th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3551], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by the book, THERE IS A RIVER.

Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Colorado.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - a bad altitude for the body, yet a change would make it much worse in the present unless done gradually.

3. As we find, there are disturbances that have caused distresses through the body. These are partially conditions in the pancreas and partially in the circulation of heart, liver, kidneys and lungs. These then become rather serious.

4. Gradually we would make a change in altitude, leaving off all of fats, cleansing the colon, and using the Jerusalem artichoke in the diet; and we will find that this achey condition, the accumulations through portions of the body, the disturbances in the heart circulation will be materially aided.

5. These we would do.

6. The colonic irrigations for removing poisons from alimentary canal should be gently but very thoroughly given, scientifically; not by one who doesn’t pay attention to the ballooning of various portions of the colon, but by one who will use massage to prevent this from causing those disturbances where there are thinned areas and an already plethoric condition needing to be cleansed or purified.

7. About twice a week we would eat a Jerusalem artichoke about the size of a hen egg, but only prepare this in its own juices; that is, cooked only in Patapar paper. And when the jacket or skin is removed, all of the juices are to be mixed with the bulk of the artichoke that is to be eaten.

8. Occasionally we would have a gentle Swedish massage, rather than any corrective treatments - a Swedish massage for the muscular forces, with the proper precautions as to heating of the body for such massages.

9. Ready for questions.

10. (Q) What is the condition of the heart? (A) As indicated, this is partly a result of toxic conditions and partly a result of a disturbance in the central circulation.

11. (Q) What causes lump and soreness here in cold weather since flu three years ago? (A) Accumulations from bad conditions in circulation. Hence the massages and the heating of the body properly as massages are made, and the purifying of the colon that poisons may be eliminated that tend to make such accumulations in lymph pockets as indicated through soft tissue in the body.

12. (Q) What causes soreness of very end of spine, especially when tired? (A) All of these are a part of this whole general condition. Use those applications suggested. And when the massages are made, reduce that tendency for plethora or a fullness in the coccyx end of spine, especially at the last - and second to last - coccyx segment, or the very tail end.

B1. 9/10/43 Letter to EC from [3551]: “I have just finished a hasty perusal of Mr. Sugrue’s book, ‘There Is A River’. It will take some time to assimulate the large amount of material here, so, without waiting for that I am writing to ask if you would have the time to give me a reading for correction of a disturbance somewhere in the digestive tract. Various Doctors have diagnosed it as (1) Lack of Hydrochloric acid (2) Fallen Stomach (3) Adhesions (4) Appendix. Medicine containing hydrochloric acid did help temporarily which leads me to believe the trouble might be a disturbance in the digestive juices. Other doctors tell me there is no such thing as Fallen Stomach and that adhesions are impossible where there has never been operation. A blood count for appendicitis was refused as I had no temperature.

“So naturally I have been at a loss to know how to correct the distress. I suffer soreness, gas, etc. Intuition kept telling me to WAIT, the opportunity would come when there would be no doubt as to what to do next. When I read Mr. Sugrue’s book I knew at once the opportunity had come and after a good many years of discomfort and worry I would at last find out what really to do.

“I assure you I will fully and conscientiously follow your suggestions. As to the financial end, I leave that entirely to you. We are a family in comfortable circumstances and want to do whatever is customary to you with your patients.

“As a Rosicrucian A.M.O.R.E. student of mysticism for many years, I find the chapter on philosophy quite in accord with our illuminating system of metaphysical thought.” Sincerely, [3551]

B2. 12/28/43 Letter to EC from [3551]: “I am very pleased to accept the time set in your letter of October 5th. The date you mention is January 13th - 3:30 - 4:30 EWT, and is for a Physical Reading. I assure you I will help in every way to keep the period in prayer and meditation, as you ask.

“As for the questions: (1) Would you please check the heart, which at one time in my life was not very good. (2) Also Lungs; soreness here in cold weather often since Flu three years ago. (3) Soreness at very end of spine when tired especially. (4) Soreness in region of right side.

“Originally I contacted you hoping to remedy the last mentioned. It has been of several years duration. Food caused soreness and gas. Different Doctors diagnosed it as everything from ‘Fallen Stomach’ to ‘Appendix’ and ‘Adhesions leading to Cancer.’ I worried a good deal over it but felt the right diet would cure it, if only I could find one.

“Curiously, no sooner was my letter to you mailed than I was almost cured of this last disturbance. It has recurred since but in a mild form. And this, after all those years!

“You see from this that my ‘ailments’ are minor ones. I am anxious to keep and to improve the really above average health I enjoy and will appreciate your help to this end. I do thank you for your soul service, if I may so call it.” Sincerely, [3551]
