GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: … Township - number 5, yes.
-
Yes, we have the body here, [3565].
-
As we find, there is a combination of disturbances here and there are specific lesions that are the sources from which these disturbances arise.
-
In some little time back there was an injury to the coccyx end of the spine. Hence a lesion has formed there which, in its reflex through the developing periods with the tendencies already existent, causes a circular lesion in the 3rd cervical area. These combined have formed lesions in the greater lacteal duct that lies in coordination with the gall duct and the entrance of the duodenum to the jejunum. Hence when there is either a full activity or flow from the duodenum to the intestinal tract, or when there are those influences as the body rests when there is the coordinating or balancing being produced through the circulation from the liver to the kidneys, there come these contractions causing spasmodic seizures that draw the body in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical area, as well as the muscles of face and the sensory organism.
-
This is not what is ordinarily termed epilepsy, but is rather from those lesions in the coccyx and those adhesions in the lacteal duct that cause the spasmodic reaction to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cervical. Or where nerves of the sympathetic system or impulses coordinate with the brain flexes in the circulation. Thus there is caused what might be termed a short circuit to the wave responses in the impressions to reflexes in brain, causing these centers to produce in the locomotories, spasmodic seizures.
-
We would apply consistently for one hour each day, three days at a time, the Castor Oil Packs over the lacteal duct and the umbilical and caecum area. Apply over same the electric pad, not so hot as to be uncomfortable, but when it is thoroughly warm turn on low heat.
-
After these have been used for one hour each day for three days give the body internally a tablespoonful of Olive Oil.
-
Then let the body rest from these until the next week and repeat the whole procedure, and so on.
-
After the second series of the Castor Oil Packs begin with having osteopathic corrections made in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd coccyx centers.
-
Also following each of the series of Castor Oil Packs, do break up lesions in the lacteal duct area - though not bruising the body, but give deep osteopathic manipulations to break up the lesions; also reducing the circular lesions in the 2nd and 3rd cervical area.
-
Keep the body away from sweets.
-
Occasionally, once or twice a week, give the body one drop of Atomidine in water - to purify the glands and set up drainages for each center through which impulses of the body find expression in the sense organisms.
-
Do these things and we will make better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) Was this injury caused at birth? (A) Just after birth.
-
(Q) What is the relation of the tumor on eye, and should it be removed by surgery? (A) Not until the other corrections have been made. This is a lymph tumor or wen. This will be removed by surgery but let’s cure or retard the seizures to such an extent that this portion of the body is brought to better coordination.
-
(Q) What is the connection between her condition and her constant desire to bump her head? (A) This is from the impulses that flow from the lacteal area to the center through which there is the control of coordination or equilibrium of the voluntary and involuntary reflexes.
-
(Q) What causes her extreme nervousness and ungovernable temper? (A) All of this comes as a part of that which is rather tormenting to the mental body. As yet it has not reached that stage of other than that bordering on possession.
-
(Q) Please suggest a doctor or doctors accessible to the parents to whom they can go to have these treatments administered. (A) The body is close to where there is a good masseuse or naturopath. Don’t use a chiropractor, or don’t treat the body chiropractorially, but neuropathically or osteopathically.
-
(Q) Can this condition be permanently cured? (A) Can you be assured that tomorrow is coming? Can you be assured on any change? Rather know, as has been indicated, these can be eliminated. Do be prayerful, do be consistent, do be persistent and we will bring better conditions for this body.
-
We are through with this reading.

Reports
Reports & Follow-up
R1. 2/6/44 Uncle [5154]‘s letter: “Yes, Mr. Cayce, the osteopath mentioned, IS Dr. Tom Posey and a mighty fine gentleman and osteopath, kind, gentle and still about the best. I called him and told him you wanted to know if he was the same one you knew, and he said ‘SURE AM,’ and remember several experiences with your work…said to ‘remember’ you back. I have an appointment with him for next week to see if he might handle the [3565] case if they couldn’t get proper attention for her in Minn. Said he sure would be glad to attend to the case and cover every detail of the recommendations in the Reading to the last instruction. He is a Believer, and that is what I want for her.”
R2. 4/1/44 Uncle [5154]‘s letter: “I have been taking a few adjustments from Dr. Tom Posey when I have been in, of late…was up there today…and say is he proud of that autographed copy of ‘There Is A River’ you sent him…a mighty fine man I can tell you and still doing a ‘big job’…gets up every morning and takes an hour’s ride on his horse, has a large practice and is busy most all the time. He isn’t treating the youngster from Minnesota you gave the Reading for, because her folks found a good chiropractic practitioner here where they live, and they haven’t had to bring her down here. I have written them a couple of times to send me the name of the practitioner, but they forget to tell me when they write…when they do, I will send the information to the Ass’n.”
R3. 12/23/44 Uncle’s letter: “He [Dr. Posey] is going to start treating the little niece of ours for epilepsy in January, as she will be down here then…the one for which you gave the reading last spring. And believe me that is one doctor that will follow the advice of the Reading to the very letter.”
R4. 5/5/45 Uncle’s letter to GD: “Dear Friend…just a line to let you know the ‘letters’ are just fine and keep up a high rate of interest. The bulletin is good too. And the weekly digest is of great help to me and those whom I pass it on to. Keep up the good work.
“I am enclosing five dollars to apply on my living sponsorship. It isn’t as much as I want to send at this time, but we are put to a lot of expense just now with the little epileptic girl for whom we had the Reading, as she is also a psychopathic case and has to have special teaching and training. As you know, she is being treated by Dr. Posey here, Edgar’s old friend. After three months of treatment, she is showing indications of a slight improvement…but it is going to be a long, up-hill fight to get this child to normalcy. And while I think of it, do you folks want me to keep up a case history of this? We are finding out many things, for one thing we found a case of inverted vision, brought on we think by a paralysis of the left side when in a convulsion a couple of years ago, as well as a case of just about the strongest will for wrong I have ever seen.
“With the five dollars I am also enclosing a dollar for one copy of ‘A Search for God’ and four copies of The Coming of Man (two dollars in all for these).
“It now looks very much as if I won’t get to Virginia Beach for the Congress this year. In our search for a school for [3565] we find that about the only one we can afford is a Catholic School in St. Paul and we will have to enter her just about the time I would be going to the Congress. As so much depends on this case I feel it must come first…just as I do about the expense involved. After all, it is a duty which I incurred upon getting the Reading and it is a labor of love which Mr. Edgar would approve I am sure. And I will surely be with you all in spirit just the same.” Sincerely, [5154]
R5. 5/18/52 Oral report to GD by the uncle, Mr. [5154]: The niece, [3565], improved tremendously while she stayed with them, but the parents wouldn’t cooperate. Dr. Posey, who treated [3565] so successfully, passed away over a year ago.
R6. 7/60 Notes on EPILEPSY cases from the Edgar Cayce records made by Walter N. Pahnke, M.D.: The following notes were taken on cases as read and are merely the opinion of the abstractor at the time he read the case plus the correspondence. The main value of these notes is that they give some indication of what the exact diagnosis in each case may or may not be.
Case [3565]. Given in 1944. 5 year old female. This case was classified in group 2. The readings described this case as not true epilepsy. This case was complicated by psychosis. There was no follow-up after 1945, and only slight improvement was noted but it is uncertain that the readings were ever followed. The readings suggest that the psychosis may become possession.

Background
B1. 8/28/43 Uncle, [5154]‘s letter to EC: “I am writing this separately, because I wish to make application for a Physical Reading for a small daughter of my wife’s sister, who resides in Minnesota, and who will be five years old this summer.
“This youngster has been afflicted with what all the doctors describe as epilepsy nearly from birth. This child’s parents are poor and live on a farm near … We as well as my wife’s other sister have all contributed towards medical treatment but so far the child has never been helped, although, owing to there being no epilepsy prevalent in either family for generations, they seem to think the cause might be an injury caused at birth.
“I feel sure that the child’s mother will cooperate fully in suggested treatment and they have nearby access to both medical and osteopathic practitioners. However, the main objective on our part, is to determine once and for all whether there is any chance for a cure. My faith in you and your ability is such that I would accept any verdict as final.
“Please advise me if a date for a Reading can be had, also as to whether the membership should be taken out in the mother’s name or in mine. I will pay for the Reading. I do not have any more application forms, so please send me a form, also I would appreciate additional copies of ‘Edgar Cayce, His Life and Work’ for which I will send the proper remuneration along with the payment for this new membership.
“Hoping that you may find it convenient to render this Reading which I feel sure will aid this child, I am as always,”
B2. 12/22/43 Uncle’s letter: “Questions we would like asked are…:
- Is the child’s condition true epilepsy and are the spells epileptic?
- Is there any connection between her condition and her constant desire to bump her head?
- Is there any chance that the tumor on her eye as being the cause of this so-called epileptic condition? Should this tumor be removed by surgery and would it be a serious operation?
- What is the cause of her extreme nervousness and her ungovernable temper?
- Was this youngster injured at birth and does this possibly have connection with her present condition?
- Can this condition, whether true epilepsy or not, be permanently cured? In outlining possible cure, will some consideration be made as to accessibility of this family to any medical treatment suggested?
“We all thank you Mr. Cayce and look forward to a solution of this problem, the ability of a young child to grow up and be normal. May the All-Good bless you and yours, we all pray for you and for the boys in the service, especially Hugh Lynn.” [5154]
B3. 1/10/44 [3565]‘s mother’s letter to EC: “I am the mother of [3565] who is to have a reading Sat. afternoon of Jan 15, 1944 and I sent a list of questions to be asked to Mr. [5154], my brother-in-law, who was the means of our getting a Reading for [3565]. But I would appreciate it very much if you will include the question, ‘Will you name a Dr. or Dr’s to whom we can go for the treatment of [3565]. This will save hunting around for the right Dr. as we have already tried so many in a vain attempt to cure her and can’t afford to spend very much. So if this can be done I will consider it a very great favor. We are anxiously awaiting a report on the Reading and I pray that a cure can be found for my little girl as it has been four years since she was first sick and I feel so sorry for her as she can’t take her place in life like a normal child while she is still this way. I pray God’s Blessing on you and your good work.
“Thanking you so much I remain Sincerely yours,” Mrs. […]
