This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. […], new Associate member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

At the home of his Time of Reading parents, just off 10:50 to 11:00 A. M. Eastern War Time. highway 41, 1 mile South of …, Ky.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the entity here - for this will prove to be just that, unless there are definite measures taken to make changes - and these will not change.

3. As we find, there are karmic conditions of the body and also the parents. Yet there are physical disturbances that come from conditions which existed during the period of gestation, and these can be interpreted within themselves if they will analyze it.

4. These pressures in the brain cells, from the portion of the central gland through which and from which the life processes begin, caused at the time of presentation, pressures in the head and neck.

5. The days in the present may be materially lengthened, but the response will depend upon whether or not those responsible wish to carry through with this or to let processes of nature or time disintegrate this body from the entity or soul.

6. There may be somewhat of a response, and this may be better accomplished (should there be the desire to keep the life here) by the direct application of the low electrical forces that may be had from the Abrahms Machine or this low energy to the body, which would carry the life-forces. Massages should be given along with this.

7. These applications, as we find, might be given in Dayton, Ohio as by Lydic or others in the osteopathic hospital, there.

8. Ready for questions.

9. (Q) Is it possible for him to become normal? (A) These questions have just been answered. As we find, the life may be prolonged - but normalcy - unless there’s a great change in the conditions, no normalcy in this experience.

Dear Sir:

I have studied the works of God very carefully mostly through nature, and I find that he works in mysterious ways but they are always simple ways.

God would not send a reading using words that Webster or the medical dictionary does not contain (KARMIC).

Bro. Cayce [minister] has written you in regard to our Reading of [3584] but gets no reply.

If we don’t get some consideration from you I think the public would be glad to know that it will be six or seven years before they receive the Readings they are sending in for now.

Remember I have your literature stating you have 4500 readings ahead - two a day how long will it take to give them?

They aren’t interested in joining your organization it’s the readings.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. […]

Due to Mr. Cayce’s illness, I am attempting to answer your letter of February 29th.

The word (karma) IS in Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (fifth edition). However, I do not agree with you that a word is not of God if it is not in the dictionary. Before man discovered electricity, the word electric was not in the dictionary, but it was in God’s universe. Man had not yet become aware of it.

According to Webster’s dictionary (since you seem to accept it as quite an authority), karma is “the whole ethical consequence of one’s acts considered as fixing one’s lot in the future existence; hence, loosely, destiny, fate.”

Your letter is the greatest proof to me that the Reading is correct. Indeed God does work in mysterious ways His wonders to perform. I believe that if you will accept it, this affliction of your child is God’s way of giving you an opportunity to turn within and seek guidance from Him to help you understand why this condition has come upon you and what lesson you are to gain from it. My thought is that you will not accomplish this by finding fault with others because they cannot miraculously cure your child, but by looking for the fault within your own heart and purpose. “Great peace have those who love the law, and nothing shall offend them.” In other words, all affliction, all suffering has a purpose behind it that is governed by God’s immutable laws. The only answer is to become attuned with God’s purpose for our lives. I think that is what Mr. Cayce’s Reading has to say to you. Whether or not you accept this truth and attempt to apply it is up to you.

For Forty-three years thousands of individuals have found Mr. Cayce’s Readings helpful. He has never made any claims for himself. He has never promised anyone that they would be healed. Always his attitude has been “Because of the good that has come to me and mine, I will try when people ask me.”

Those of us who have studied his work through the years feel that the information actually needed for the individual is given, but sometimes individuals do not want the truth - they prefer telling God HOW He should go about to perform a miracle for them; not realizing that the miracle is to be the transformation within themselves.

Perhaps you do not thank me for writing you in this manner, but I feel impelled to give you the interpretation of the Reading as I see it.

Dear Sir:

In this mornings magazine section of the COURIER-JOURNAL, I read the most interesting story I have ever had the pleasure of reading. The story of your life.

The paragraph that interested me most was where the vision appeared before you and granted you a wish and I’m sure there was never a nobler wish made.

I will now tell you why I am so interested, however I don’t want to appear selfish about it.

Feb. 4, 1942 a baby boy was born to us. He was badly injured at birth, and now at the age of 20 months, he weighs 15 lbs. and is as helpless as an infant. We have carried him to Vanderbilt twice, the last time they gave us no hope what so ever, said his brain was badly injured. Others believe it’s in his spinal cord.

If there is anything that you could tell us it would be appreciated more than anything in the world and we would be glad to pay any or everything we have.

Hoping this doesn’t sound silly and you can help us.

Mr. Edgar Cayce

Dear Sir:

As was suggested by you on Nov. 4, 1943, I am sending details necessary for you to give the Reading of [3584] on Jan. 24, 1944. [3584] will be at home, one mile South of … just off of Highway 41 (Route 6).

I wish to ask the following questions. -

1. What is the defect that has kept [3584] from developing mentally and physically?
2. What caused this trouble?
3. Can the cause be corrected? If so, how?
4. Please give name and address of the Doctor that can and will treat him as you suggest he should be treated.
5. Will [3584] ever be entirely normal, if so how long will it take?
