This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 24th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3592], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 4:05 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Kentucky.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes. As we find, these conditions are rather serious, as there is the beginning of a combination of disturbances on the order of multiple sclerosis and inflammatory arthritis - which may become very serious, very painful.

3. Here we find, it would be well to use mud packs form those areas of French Lick, Kentucky, for conditions of this particular nature. We refer to the mud by the edge of the creek in the town of French Lick, Kentucky, which is in the form of something between asphalt and tar. This, though, would be mixed with water in which there is at least two percent grain alcohol, so that it will form a cast that may be put over the lumbar and sacral areas and allowed to dry. Put it on not too dry but rather in a semi-liquid state. This should be spread over the hips and a portion of the lower abdomen. Use these applications about twice each week.

4. Also at the same period use hot Castor Oil packs over the liver and gall duct area, but with salt heat rather than an electric pad. Prepare the salt in a quilted pad, heat as in an oven and apply over the Castor Oil Packs. These would be left on for at least an hour each time, or a couple of hours would be better.

5. When the Packs are removed, massage thoroughly into the body an equal combination of Olive Oil (heated) and Tincture of Myrrh, not wiping off the surplus but using afterwards the electrically driven vibrator. Use the suction applicator across the sacral and the lower lumbar and over the areas that have been covered by the Packs and the massage, even to those areas where there are the connections with the sciatic centers at the head of the femur or the bone structure for the whole hip bone and socket area on either side; not too deep but just the vibration of same.

6. We would take KalDak internally as a body builder and as a corrector in the digestive forces of the body.

7. In the diet keep closer to those foods that contain less fats. Have plenty of raw vegetables, especially water cress, lettuce, celery, onions, carrots, beets. Grate or grind these very fine and prepare often with oils, salad dressings or with gelatin.

8. These will bring better conditions for this body.

10. (Q) What is the cause of my ailment? (A) An injury in the lumbar and sacral area that caused congestion through the gall duct area, and the change in the chemical forces of body.

11. (Q) How may I know when I get the right kind of mud? (A) You’ll see that it is a different color. This is black, while the other is almost whitish or gray-whitish. This is almost black. You may see it on the edge of the bank. You’ll see it if you go to the place and look at the creek.

I wrote you on Feb 1st. regarding reading no. 3592-1 but as yet have not had a reply. I can not locate French Lick, Ky. Dr. Wilson of Riggs Hospital Lex., Ky. is interested in my case and we are very anxious to get started on the treatment, as time means so much to me.

If there is any extra charge please let me know and I will send check. I am,

R2. 3/3/44 GD’s letter to [3592]:

Dear Mr. [3592]:-

Due to Mr. Cayce’s illness, I am, at this late date taking the liberty of answering your letter of February 15th.

It may be that French Lick, Orange County, Indiana was meant. Do you have any way of finding out whether or not there is a creek in that place having mud with the asphalt-tar combination? If this formation can be found in the French Lick, Ind. area, then you would be safe in going ahead to apply the mud from that vicinity. On the other hand, if French Lick, Ind. does not have the formation described, I would suggest that the next best thing is to continue to try to locate a French Lick, Ky. It may be such a small place as not to be listed. We recently had another small place in Ky. recommended for a certain type of Baths and were unable to locate it on the map. Finally we were told by an old Kentuckian that he knew of this place, that it was between such and such small towns, and had only a small hotel in the place as the only identification.

I will continue to inquire about French Lick, Ky., and suggest that you do the same.

R3. 3/20/44 [3592]‘s letter: “On January 24th you gave me a reading, 3592-1, and your diagnosis of my case seemed very correct, and you also prescribed a treatment which I would like very much to begin using, however I have not been able to find any place in Kentucky by the name of French Lick, and I have made inquiries of all persons and firms that I thought might be able to help me locate it - including the post office department, the AAA, etc. I have also written you two previous letters about this matter but was advised you were away for awhile.

“If it is at all possible for you to give me any further help about this matter I would appreciate it greatly, as I cannot begin the treatment until I know exactly where to go to find the mud you speak of. Trusting you will favor me with an early reply, I am…”

R4. 3/25/44 EC’s letter: “I wish I knew just what to tell you about locating the place by the name of French Lick… If you would like, we could check up on this, though it may be two or three weeks before we can do it, but it will be no cost to you…”

R7. 6/17/48 GD’s letter: “At this late date I am writing you to enquire if you were ever able to follow the advice given in your reading by Edgar Cayce. He was always so interested in the outcome of the suggestions which came through him. The Association is trying to keep in touch with all those he tried to serve; it is our desire to help you get as much good as possible from the reading you received. I do hope that you have found good health, whether through the treatment he recommended or some other.

I remember there was quite a bit of to-do at the time trying to decide whether or not French Lick, Indiana was meant rather than French Lick, Kentucky, and there was the possibility that the steno made a mistake. Poor Mr. Cayce was so deluged with work and he had so many around him trying to help but who were not properly fitted to do the job as it should have been done.

Sometime afterward I talked with a girl living in Bloomington, Indiana who said that French Lick was quite a health resort near her; that she had heard all her life about the great physical health value of the “good earth” in that vicinity. This was an interesting “check” to me on the fact that French Lick, Indiana must have been the place referred to in the reading. I kept intending to write you about my conversation with the girl, but with Mr. Cayce’s serious illness shortly after that and his subsequent passing, I never got around to it. I hope, though, that you investigated and did find a way to try the treatment. At any rate, I’d appreciate very much hearing from you…

Although we wrote you in June of 1948, and received no reply, we are hopeful that this letter may reach you and a report on the Physical Reading given for you by EC, will be forth-coming.

I am sure you will be interested to know that all of the readings are now being prepared for microfilming. The purpose is two-fold. (I) Preservation of the “raw material”. (2) Making such material available for study and research.

The information you furnish will be used for background material to emphasize the value of the reading. I hasten to explain that a case number is used so that all personal identity is removed. Every paper in the files is confidential and will be kept that way. All identification is removed before any copy work is done. Your reading will be among the first to be microfilmed, and we are extremely anxious to have a detailed report from you. Perhaps the following questions will be helpful to you in supplying the information we desire.

1. Do you feel that the reading described you condition accurately? 2. Do you recall an injury to your spine - the lumbar area? At what age did this injury take place? 3. Did you follow any of the suggestions given in your reading? If so, please outline just how these were followed? How many times did you apply the Castor Oil Packs? Was this followed by the massage, and the use of suction applicator across the sacral and lower lumbar areas. Did you take the KalDak? What period of time? Did you alter your diet, including both the “do’s” and “don’t’s”? Did you receive any relief at all? If you did not get any help from your reading, have you been able to get help through any other source? Has your condition - or ailment - ever been called Multiple Sclerosis or Inflammatory Arthritis?

R9. 7/31/52 [3592]‘s letter:

Dear Madam;

I do not recall hearing from you in 1948, we moved in Apr. 1948 no doubt the letter went astray. Will try to answer your questions as numbered (1) yes, (2) No. (3) We found the mud in French Lick, Ind. Dr. Wilson D.C. gave me the treatments as given in the reading, in some instances he had to substitute, in case of the salt packs he used a heat lamp.

He gave me adjustments with the treatments and I received a great deal of relief. Due to the expense I had to give up the treatments.

Dear Mr. Cayce:

I have just finished reading an article in the September issue of the “Coronet” magazine in which Marguerite Harmon Bro relates the story of your marvelous gift. I realize you will be besieged by requests from many readers who, like myself, feel that your power lends hope for the solution of an otherwise seemingly hopeless problem, and will find it impossible to answer them all. However, I do trust you will be able to favor me with an early reply, if possible, telling just what you charge for a reading and how soon you could give one for my brother who is the victim of a very puzzling ailment.

For the past several years he has consulted several of our country’s leading medical specialists and in every instance the result has been the same - all have been frankly puzzled. None have been able to offer a definite diagnosis, and while the disease resembles several well known diseases yet his particular ailment fails to fall into any definite classification. He has submitted to all kinds of clinical tests - none of which have revealed the exact nature of his trouble, nor has any cause for the trouble been established. All prescribed treatments have been on the basis of experimentation and none has so far checked the progress of the disease.

My brother has a family to support and would like to regain his health if possible. He is a Christian character and will have the faith to carry out whatever treatment you suggest, and will be most grateful for any helpful suggestions you may offer. Please advise him first of the exact amount of the fee so he can get the reading as early as possible.
