Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Indiana.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes - the body prays.

3. We have the body here, [3606].

4. As we find, there are disturbances that are gradually becoming more and more aggravating to the physical and mental activities of the body. These are very definite as to their sources.

5. In times back, just before puberty, the body had an accident on skates and the end of the spine - the coccyx, 1st segment - was injured. From this, as there came the menstrual periods, disturbances arose and reflexes to the medulla oblongata have been uncontrolled.

6. These, then, are not in the form of spasms but the loss of control of the reflexes of the body. To be sure, these occur the more often closer to the menstrual periods; thus in a manner they are associated or connected with same.

7. We would take those measures to have this segment replaced - don’t remove it, but have it placed in its proper position, and correct those lesions that have been formed through the areas of the lower sacrals and through the lumbar areas, also breaking up the tendencies for those lesions in the lacteal duct area.

8. Have the corrections made osteopathically in the coccyx, sacral and lumbar areas, coordinating the upper dorsals and cervicals with same.

9. At the same period, begin using a tonic made from the Passion Flower. Put a gallon (by measure) of the leaf, the fruit and the vine of the Passion Flower in an enamel container, with an enamel or glass top - not aluminum nor any other metal. Add two gallons of distilled water. Reduce by slow, not heavy or fast boiling, until reduced, when strained to one quart. Then add sufficient grain alcohol as a preservative, which by volume would be six ounces.

10. Take a teaspoonful of this each day until the whole quantity is taken.

11. Do these and we will relieve this body entirely.

12. Ready for questions.

13. (Q) Will this tend to ward off the attacks? (A) As indicated, it should remove the causes, not only ward them off, but do away with them.

14. (Q) Would you suggest a physician to administer these treatments? (A) Any good osteopath.

15. (Q) Is it safe for me to have children while in this condition? (A) This would have nothing to do with the affliction for children by this body, but until the conditions are changed, it wouldn’t be very well or safe, for the body or the child.

16. (Q) Is it indicated how long it might take for me to be cured, if these treatments are followed? (A) Whether it’s a day or a year, do something about it! And prepare self to use the opportunities offered by not being disturbed in body and mind by the condition.

R1. 2/9/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “Received the Physical Reading as of January 28, 1944, but delayed writing because of the fact that the physical examination was delayed and only completed yesterday, February 8th. The examination bears out the diagnosis given in the reading. The osteopath who is treating [3606] and made the examination is, Dr. Louis E. Browne, 430 Lincoln Bank Tower, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

“The formula for the medicine I sent to Mr. Wirsing, of Roanoke, Virginia, and he expects to send the medicine on or about February 10, 1944, as he had to await shipment of something or other.

“While there was nothing in the diagnosis concerning diet, may I ask if there was anything in the Reading that referred to diet?

“Thanking you for your kindness in this matter, and may God bless and prosper you and your work, I am,” Sincerely, Mrs. […]

R2. 3/27/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “Referring to the physical reading given for my daughter, [3606] January 28, 1944, I neglected to tell you that immediately after reading the diagnosis of her case, where the coccyx was injured in a fall while skating, my daughter, said that she remembers of having a fall on the ice and that her back pained her for several days after the fall but didn’t tell me of it for fear of not being allowed to go skating, and of course the doctor’s examination bears out your diagnosis of the case.

“In conversation with the doctor recently, he said that she was responding to the treatment, and her treatments have been reduced from three a week to two a week. But I would like to say that she has had one seizure since undergoing treatment, but that the shaking or jerkiness still continues, but of course we know this will all come right under treatment.

“Hoping that you will be improved in health,” I am, […]

R3. 3/31/44 EC’s letter to [3606]‘s mother: “Thanks very much for your letter of the 27th and I appreciate very much the report on [3606].

“Of course we are glad to know that the information was possibly exactly correct in this instance. That is the way that it has been for years and years. I know of myself Mrs. […] I can’t do it.

“I am sure you and the doctor realize that it is going to take some little time, for when a condition like that had existed for possibly several years, even though the results may be just showing up, it will take some little time for the condition to adjust itself and for the system to take up in the right way and manner. After a few months it may be well for us to check up on the condition and see what might have been done or whether the correction has been made.

R4. 5/23/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “Since writing you March 27, 1944, I am again reporting on my daughter’s case.

“While she is still taking treatment and her body is not as tense as when the treatments began, still there is no improvement in so far as the fainting or seizures and jerking of limbs and arms are concerned. About the first week of this month or the last week in April, she had two seizures, and one of them I might say was two in one, as she had not come out of the one, when she went into another not as severe, or it may have been one very severe seizure. Of course I am just apprizing you of this fact, in the event you may think there may be something more to do. May I hear from you?”

R5. 8/14/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “Your letter of June 20th has been mislaid and just came to light. In this letter you advise me that you have set the morning of October 21, 1944, between 10:30 and 11:30 for [3606] check physical reading. I presume the time mentioned is EWT.

“You also ask for a report on her case to be used in your research work. I can hardly comply with this request inasmuch as there is no improvement in her condition. Although the doctor on the case reports that the coccyx is just about in position and is being held in position by the muscles, and that her back is just about straight, even so there is no improvement in the control of the reflexes and the convulsions occur during or near the menstrual period, and sometimes between the periods.

“There is very little of the medicine left which was prescribed in the first reading, and we were wondering if she was to have the prescription refilled. Please advise concerning this.

“We are looking forward to the check physical reading, and also please advise if I shall send you another check.”

R6. 10/1/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “I herewith enclose check-reading blank, together with check for $10.00.

“At the time of reading, October 21st, I and my daughter, [3606] will be at … Avenue, …, Indiana.

“The diagnosis given at the last reading bore out the doctor’s examination. The correction has been made in so far as the coccyx is concerned, but there has been no improvement in her condition.

“The only question [3606] cares to ask is this: Is there any hope that she will be restored to normal health?

“Awaiting the result of the check-reading, I am,”

The following notes were taken on cases as read and are merely the opinion of the abstractor at the time he read the case plus the correspondence. The main value of these notes is that they give some indication of what the exact diagnosis in each case may or may not be.

Case [3606]. Given in 1944. 20 year old female. This case was classified in group 1. From the mother’s description the diagnosis would seem to be petit mal epilepsy. There were no follow-up reports.

B1. 9/22/43 Mother’s letter to EC: “In the Coronet for September, I read an article concerning your work, and I write to ascertain whether or not you can give a reading without the party in question being present.

“This is my problem:

“My daughter, now twenty years of age and married one year, has been afflicted with epilepsy, her first seizure occuring when she was thirteen years of age. She has been taking the usual course of treatment which the average doctor gives, namely phenobarbital and bromides. She has been taking this treatment for about five or six years. The child became moody, attempted suicide on several occasions, was depressed, would tell of incidents that never occurred. Recently, she had occasion to see a doctor because of an eye infection, and the doctor immediately asked her what she was taking, and thought she had come for ‘dope’. He talked with her after being assured that that was not what she came for, and gave her treatment for her eye, also asked her to stop the treatment she had been taking, as it was impairing her health, also her eyesight. She promised him faithfully that she would not take the treatment and to this date she has not taken any medicine, and she says she feels like a different person, she looks better, and in fact is more like she used to be. The doctor told her that ‘of course you will jerk and have seizures,’ but he seemed to think they would wear off. The child does jerk, but she hasn’t been home long enough I imagine to have a seizure, as they usually appear at her menstrual period. I am training myself not to think of her affliction, but think of her as being perfect. Her husband has been sent to the West coast, and she returned home, (of course he is in the service) for the time being.

“If there is anything you can do for her or be of help to her, I shall be forever grateful to you and our Father, for your work certainly is a gift from Him, and I shall also be happy to remunerate you for your kindness.” Sincerely, Mrs. […]

B2. 11/30/43 Mother’s letter to EC: “I herewith enclose check for $20.00, together with application for Psychic Reading.

“I have carefully read the literature you sent me some weeks ago, also ‘A Series of case Studies of Psychic Information on Epilepsy’, prepared by your Association. I take note that one case was given a reading and helped, altho was not present. I delayed writing you on receipt of the literature in the hope that I could make the trip to Virginia Beach and bring my daughter with me, but as matters stand today, and the over crowded trains, my daughter suggested that I write for a reading to be given in her absence.

“As I wrote you sometime ago, my daughter is, as the doctor diagnosed it afflicted with epilepsy, and the last month has had gall bladder attacks, altho she is only twenty years of age. May I ask that she be given a Reading as soon as possible, or an ‘emergency reading’, as she does not want to lose any more time at her work.

“Please may I ask to hear from you at your very earliest convenience as to when she may have a reading. She is in full sympathy with this work and is desirous of receiving help.

B3. 1/18/44 Mother’s letter to EC: “I herewith enclose ‘Appointment slip’ received in yours of recent date, which I trust is properly filled in, together with questions my daughter [3606] would like answered in the reading.

“In this connection I would like to say that I don’t like to term her affliction epilepsy, as some doctors have said it wasn’t that, and others said it was. However, I do want to say, and perhaps it will give you a better idea of the case, that even on her best days her arms will jerk or shake, and her feet also will jerk if she is laying down, and if she is standing at times her knees seem to give way and sometimes she will fall to the floor, and at those times, if she is talking, her conversation is cut off.

“Now this all happens in just an instant and then she goes on as tho nothing happened, but yesterday morning she was so jerky that she couldn’t go to her position. At the present time she is not under a doctor’s care except for the gall bladder trouble which she experienced last month.

“I have written this in detail, thinking perhaps it may have some bearing on the reading.

“Then at her menstrual periods her trouble is more apparent, she may have seizures which last a few minutes, her whole body jerking at the time, and saliva flowing from her mouth, recently she has had as many as three in one day.

“We will keep the hour with you as you suggest.

“Inasmuch as you say ‘sign full name’, I had her sign her name [3606] in place of Mrs. […].

“Trusting in God that you may be the channel thru which my daughter may be healed, I am,” Sincerely, Mrs. […]

B4. Questions submitted: “Will I be cured and how long will it be until I am cured? Is there any certain doctor I should go to for treatment and where is he to be found? Why is the trouble more apparent at the menstrual period than at any other time, and what should be done at that time to ward off the attacks? If I should have children would they be afflicted as I am and is it safe for me to have children? Does the marital relationship bring on attacks?”
