This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [3607], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.
[Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. (Notes read to and transcribed by Jeanette Fitch.) Harmon Bro.]
Time of Reading 10:55 to 11:10 A. M. Eastern War Time. …, New York.
-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:
-
EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3607].
-
As we find, there are disturbances preventing the better physical functioning of the body. These are disturbances which if allowed to remain will gradually become rather constitutional, and of such natures that many of the organs may become involved - and eventually the body would have to learn to enjoy poor health, for there would be such disturbances as to cause disorders of that character.
-
These, then, are conditions as we find them with this body:
-
In the blood supply we find variations at times. There is the lack of proper assimilation. Thus the gastric flows at times are such that little or no digestion takes place in the upper portion of the stomach, or in the pyloric portion. For it empties so easily that foods are caused to ferment in the duodenum and through the jejunum, and it often causes a colon disorder. This, of course, is because of the blood supply but is produced by the lack of proper gastric flow, on account of the position of the stomach itself and the conditions that come to pass owing to its position and the emptying of same. Thus the body becomes rather erratic in its appetite.
-
There is an impoverishment at some times in red blood, again in leukocytes, again in the plasm that would cause coagulation properly in body.
-
All of these naturally make a great nerve strain or drain on system. It makes the body feel at times very tired, with a heaviness across the lower portion of the kidneys and the hip area, the limbs, the knees, the feet at times grow tired and heavy. These are results of the disturbances.
-
In the nervous system these strains or pressures naturally arise from lack of proper coordination, lack of setting up of the proper conditions. The tipping or the easy draining of stomach is from the lack of muscular contraction in the 6th and 7th dorsal area, as well as in the 3rd cervical and in the 4th and 5th dorsal.
-
Then, in making administrations for the body:
-
First, we would begin having osteopathically (or here chiropractically would be well, provided some massage is given and not too sudden, but preferably good osteopathic corrections) of the subluxations existent in the 5th and 6th dorsal or 6th and 7th dorsal, or from the 7th dorsal to the 3rd cervical especially. All would not be corrected at once, but gradually relax and then attempt corrections, so that there is no trouble in pressures of segments on the activity of those coordinating centers in these ganglia with the sympathetic nervous system.
-
After at least one or two of these are given, use an elastic belt to support the abdomen and the stomach itself. Or still more preferable, though it would be much more trouble to use, bind heavy gauze about the body. This would necessarily be done daily, and that it be taken off when the treatments of the osteopath are given.
-
Do have at least sixteen osteopathic corrections and adjustments.
-
We would also prepare a compound to aid in correcting those disturbances through the colon:
Simple Syrup (not compound, but Simple Syrup)…1 1/2 ounces, Elixir of Lactated Pepsin…1/2 ounce, Essence of Ginger…1/4 ounce, Essence of Wild Ginseng…1 1/2 ounces.
-
The dose of this, for this body would be one-half teaspoonful each day except Sundays.
-
The Fusion or Essence of Wild Ginseng would be prepared in this manner (to be used in the above compound): Put one-half ounce of Wild Ginseng in a pint of distilled water, and let it stand for eight hours - in a glass container. Bring the Wild Ginseng and then pour the boiling water over it. Strain off and add sufficient alcohol as a preservative.
-
The Essence of Wild Ginger would be prepared in the same manner, using a quarter ounce of Wild Ginger (ground or beat up) in an ounce of distilled water.
-
These would be used as stock solutions.
-
Do these and we will get rid of these headaches, the sour stomach, and - if these corrections are made - gradually the body will absorb or use or supply sufficient of the digestive fluids that the digestion will be better.
-
In the diet keep away from chocolate candies, keep away from any carbonated waters. Do not eat white potatoes. Do use a great deal of raw vegetables. Not too much of soups, though vegetable soups with quantities of vegetables in same will be very well - but these should be thick. Fish, fowl and lamb may be taken. Coffee or tea may be taken, but do not use milk or cream in either of these. Do not use citrus fruits and cereals at the same meal.
-
Do these and we will correct these conditions. It is not necessary to change the climate or the environs, if these are done consistently and persistently.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What can be done for my eyes? (A) Do these things and we will get rid of this acid throughout the system and relieve the stress upon the kidneys, which will help the eyes. Eat lots of carrots, raw and cooked.
-
(Q) What is the spot on my right side above the hip? What (will this treatment) will correct it? (A) This should not cause a great deal of anxiety. This is as a centralization of a center there. This treatment should correct it.
-
(Q) Would some other kind of work, or work in a different library, be a help to my nerves and general health? (A) Not necessarily.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 2/22/44 [3607]‘s letter to A.R.E.:
Miss Mary Wirsing Membership Secretary Association for Research Virginia Beach, Va.
Dear Miss Wirsing:
I have received your recent letter with membership card.
I am very much pleased with my reading which my chiropractor says is very accurate in this case. He is giving me two treatments a week and is very much in sympathy with Mr. Cayce’s work.
I wish to thank both Mr. and MRS. Cayce for my reading.
You mentioned Active Membership in your letter - as being
25.00 a year, two check readings would be30.00 for the two, making55.00 in all. That is more than a librarian's salary will allow even though she is very much interested. You say the Associate member pays15.00 additional to become an Active member. But, if I have a check reading my membership expires with that reading, so - where are we?I believe I have been requested to let the Association know the name of the chiropractor I have chosen. It is Mr. Arthur Morgan.
Very truly yours, [3607]

Dear Miss [3607]:
So glad to know your recent reading has been such a benefit to you, and to know you are making so much progress.
Active membership for one year is
35.00,25.00 without reading and an additional10.00 if reading is given. All check readings for Associate or Active members are10.00. Your membership will expire January 26, 1945. All Check readings given before that date will of course come under this years’ membership. Hope this will clear up any misunderstanding as to membership rules.Wishing you continued progress in regard to your physical condition.
Cordially, Mary Wirsing Membership Secretary.

Mr. Edgar Cayce Arctic Crescent Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I received my first reading the latter part of January and was very much pleased with it. It agreed exactly with what I had been told by doctors, in respect to conditions. Thank you very much.
I have tried to carry out instructions as carefully as possible. As I am expected to report progress, I submit the following -
I think I have not had so many attacks of indigestion. The diet of fish, fowl and lamb is rather difficult to obtain these days, but only when it has been impossible to get these, have I eaten beef. The lack of white potatoes seemed to diminish my food supply too much so I have substituted macaroni. Have tried to buy grits but they are not to be found in these markets.
In January I weighted 88 pounds and since then have lost weight steadily. If a high wind comes along I’ll surely blow away!
Osteopathy treatments were recommended and so far I have taken fourteen. The Doctor says the swelling in my neck is almost entirely gone.
For a long time I have taken vitamines. Last month I decided to take a rest. Three weeks ago I became so exhausted I almost collapsed, so I have started on another kind and feel better.
My back (kidneys I suppose) does not trouble me now. Some days my eyes are better and then again they aren’t. Carrots were recommended, and I have eaten so many my stomach doesn’t like them any more. It doesn’t like food of any kind any too well. I hope I won’t have to eat in the next world. The spot in my side shows no marked change.
Have taken the medicine as directed and it is now nearly gone. It is certainly nice to take.
May I have another reading? If so, and you will let me know the date, I will send questions and the $10.00.
I was glad to know you had taken a vacation and hope you feel much better.
Monthly letters are very interesting and helpful.
Sincerely yours, [3607]
R4. 6/4/44 [3607]‘s letter:
Questions for reading to be given June 16th 10:30 to 11:30.
- You suggested a corset to support my stomach. Is the one in present use satisfactory?
- I have lost so much weight that I weight only 80 pounds. What can I do to gain?
- Are fresh or canned tomatoes harmful for me?
- I continue to have a great deal of pain in my stomach at times - is there a growth there or in my intestines?
- Is it true that COLD drinks are bad for colitis?
- What will cure a cold quickly?
- The spot on my side seems to have no idea - going away - the scab seems to grow thicker - though it doesn’t seem to spread any.

… FREE LIBRARY …, N.Y. [3607] LIBRARIAN
…, Street …, N.Y.
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I am a librarian, as you may see, and I have purchased the book, “There is a River,” by Thomas Sugrue, for this library. I have read it myself - some parts of it twice. I found it intensely interesting and would like so much to discuss some things with you, especially reincarnation. I never WANTED to believe that theory, but after reading this book, I suppose I must.
You have had a marvelous and unusual opportunity to discover the truth about matters that have puzzled the world. Have you read “The Masters of the Far East,” by Spaulding? If so do you think they are absolutely true? I wonder why it is that metaphysical truths are revealed to so few. We have these books by Spaulding in our library, but if I were to recommend them to SOME people they would think my brain was unbalanced. I wish I had more time and eyesight for reading and study.
It seems from reading your book that you are willing to send readings to patients. I would like very much to have a life reading and a physical reading for myself and a business reading for my sister.
Do you send me a questionnaire for each? and what is your charge for each reading?
Do you know if there are any books on reincarnation that your “good angel” would approve? It is time I knew something about it, but I want the truth and I feel sure that your guiding spirit would know if anything authentic has been written.
It seems too good to be true that at last I have found someone who can speak with authority and I can believe and know it is not of this world.
I shall very much appreciate hearing from you.
Sincerely yours, [3607]
B2. 6/16/43 EC’s letter:
Dear Miss [3607]
Thank you very much for your letter and for your comments on THERE IS A RIVER. They are very much appreciated. Also your interest in securing a reading, both physical and life.
We are sending a booklet explaining the Association and including an application form. There are two forms in the booklet.
It is necessary by law to become a member of the Association in order to secure a reading, and since our appointments are very far ahead, it would be necessary for you to wait four or five months.
If you are interested, fill out and return the form and we will let you know when your appointment is for.
It is a policy of mine not to give my opinion on books and publications.
Best wishes,
Very sincerely yours, Edgar Cayce EC:LM

Association for Research and Enlightenment, Inc. Virginia Beach, Virginia
Gentlemen:
Enclosed is my application for membership and a reading. I would like very much to be an active member, but until I can get help for my eyes I cannot do any more than I am doing now. Doctors say they know what the trouble is but that they do not know what to do for them.
Mr. Cayce wrote me that I would have to wait five or six months for a reading. I don’t know whether it is safe to wait that long or not. I have what appears to be a cancer developing from a dark mole. If I go to a doctor he will want to remove it. I have known people who have had such operations and as a consequence, have lost the use of an arm. I have to earn my own living, I can’t carry a useless arm around. I read in the book, There is a River, that almonds would help prevent cancers. I bought some and am trying to eat a little each day. But as I have gall bladder trouble they do not agree with me.
I would very much appreciate suggestions from Mr. Cayce or some one in charge of this phase of the work.
We have Mr. Cayce’s book There is a River, in our library and it was through it that I became interested. I shall call it to the attention of those that I think will be interested.
Sincerely yours, [3607]
B4. 1/20/44 [3607]‘s letter:
Mr. Edgar Cayce Virginia Beach, Virginia
Dear Mr. Cayce:
I see by your letter of several months ago, that you and I have a “date” for January 28th. Enclosed are a few of the questions I would like to ask when my turn comes.
I was one of those privileged to hear you speak in New York in November at the luncheon and again in the evening, I was one of the early ones. I consider it one of the great experiences of my life to have seen and heard a man whom God has used as He has used you. It seems to me that you were chosen in somewhat the same way that Mary was when she was a child.
The story of the birth of Christ in your last monthly letter was most satisfying, as I felt that here at last is the TRUTH. I hope you are planning to continue the life of Christ in your letters. There has been so much controversy about when and how Jesus spent the years between his appearance in Temple and when he began his ministry.
There is something in your book, There is a River, that I would like to mention and that is, the German professor who tried to prove you an imposter. It would not be fair to judge all northern people by him. I was born in Ohio, have lived much of my life in Georgia, New England and New York State, and like them all. I am a librarian and have had several Germans working under me for seventeen years. They have those same traits of character we have seen in people of Germany during this War. They are all PERFECT and are ready to fight to prove it and to show you are wrong: they think they are smarter and know more than anyone else, and they can’t learn by experience. If they could, they never would have started this war. They are probably planning right now for another war. So as I said - please don’t judge any one except GERMANS by that German professor.
I hope your trip to New York did not overtax your strength. Perhaps another time they could plan to have a microphone for you.
Will you please tell me if there is any cure for a person who has a stroke of paralysis? Our Christian Science practitioner had one last July and is still unable to use her left side. I know some one else who had one and is about normal again except that she cannot talk.
When would it be possible for me to have a business reading? I know you are very busy.
Very sincerely yours, [3607]
Questions in regard to [3607], …, New York.
- What can be done for my eyes? I cannot read before my noon meal without a headache.
- Can anything be done to support my dropped stomach? Would a corset of any kind help?
- What is the spot on my right side above my hip? And what will cure it?
- What causes so much pain in my stomach? Any nervous strain seems to turn it upside down.
- Is there any cure for the colitis condition I have?
- I am a librarian and, since I am head librarian, there is a lot of responsibility and there is jealousy among those under me - would some other kind of work, or work in a different library, be a help to my nerves and general health?
I am particularly anxious to have questions 1 and 3 answered.
