Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Canada. (Physical Suggestion)

1. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [3609].

2. As we find, there are disturbing conditions preventing the better physical functioning of the body. These are of such natures that at periods there is almost amnesia experienced, as well as such an effect being produced upon the glands of assimilation as to cause undue development of portions of the body - the abdominal area and the bust.

3. These conditions are affected, then, by an injury to the coccyx, producing through same - from the 2nd and 1st segments such natures of pressures upon the brush end of the cerebrospinal system as to affect glandular forces, such pressures in the sympathetic and the vegetative nerve system as to cause disassociations between impulses and cerebrospinal reflexes.

4. While certain characters of application have proven at times to be helpful, apparently - this has only tended for the moment, as it were, to unite the short circuiting or, the incoordination being made coordinant in the impulses between sympathetic and cerebrospinal system.

5. First, then, we would apply wet heat in the sacral and the coccyx end of the spine and bring the segments into alignment, where pressures are indicated in the axis of the lumbar and in the lower portion of the 9th dorsal. Thus we will not only gradually gain control of the impulses through the body but the activities of the glands will bring near to normal reactions through all portions of the body. Osteopathically remove these pressures. This would require some eight to ten treatments in the first series, giving about two adjustments and corrections a week, and then a rest period from these for ten days to two weeks. Then give a series of sixteen more. During this second series, we will find great changes, although, after the third or fourth treatment in the first series the changes will apparently be of an adverse rather than helpful nature - but keep them up and we will bring better conditions for this body.

7. (Q) What will regularize her menstrual periods? (A) The conditions just indicated as to how all of the glands of the body are affected.

8. (Q) Can you suggest an osteopathic physician to follow these treatments? (A) Anyone in sympathy with the corrections to be made. If we would suggest one, we would favor one of those who has been associated or acquainted with the activities of Dobbins. [1/27/44 GD’s note: The Reading refers to Dr. Frank P. Dobbins, an osteopath now in the Army, but who handled many cases in New York with the Readings.]

“I am extremely grateful to you for the reading and I am taking steps to have the treatments suggested administered to [3609] as soon as possible.

“I am handicapped a little by the fact that she is still in Military Hospital subject to their regulations but I think - now - I can overcome any obstacle.

“I shall keep in touch with you and report progress. Thanking you again,”

Perhaps the father did write and it got lost in the shuffle of first inquiries and thousands of letters of people waiting for or clamoring for appointments. He had appointments two years in advance when he died which had to be cancelled and money refunded for membership which was to include the reading.

B1. 9/4/43 Father’s letter: “Will you help us? My daughter [3609], age 35, has suffered a nervous breakdown - not at first. Some 3 yrs. ago she was administered Metrozol by the doctors of Whitby (Ont.) Mental Hospital which seemed beneficial but apparently not permanent. Prior to this she was in a private home for some months. Intervening periods she is perfectly normal, is loved by everyone, being of a bright and happy disposition, but during these breaks is in a terrible state of depression - refusing to see people and a desire to stay in bed. Some of the doctors have expressed the opinion that these breakdowns have some physical basis, but I am unable to verify this. Will you please try to get us some suggestion for effective tr.? We are very distressed.”

B2. 9/25/43 Father’s letter: “The doctors want to send her to the Ontario Mental Hospital for Metrozol shock treatment… Is it presumptuous of me to ask for your occasional prayers for her?…” [GD’s note: EC put her on our Glad Helpers Prayer List, which included all our prayers.]

B3. 9/28/43 Father’s letter: “My daughter came to Canada from London England where she had gone to reside after her marriage. Unfortunately she suffered a nervous breakdown some months after her marriage and her husband, refusing to believe there was anything wrong with her (medical men’s diagnosis), treated her quite cruelly and sent her to Canada to me. She was ill for some months but finally recovered and joined the Women’s Army and has just returned from a coast to coast tour of ‘The Army Show’. At present she is in the Army Hospital and will be discharged within 2-3 wks. They talk of placing her in a mental institution and administering the Metrozol shock treatment. When in her usual health she is a very lovable person and it breaks my heart to see her in this condition. Is there any possibility of securing a rdg. before they should commit her? I would be everlastingly grateful.”

B4. 1/15/44 Father submitted questions: “Could these lapses be caused as a result from a fall? She had one when she was around 19 and hurt her spine rather badly. Some wks. after abscesses developed which were attended to by our doctor and apparently all cleared up. Can you account for her gain in weight - tremendous bust development? Irregular menstrual periods have always been a trouble to her. Is there anything here that can account for her condition? Is there a medical man here we could consult with confidence?”
