This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 28th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mrs. [3612], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc., recommended by Dr. Marian B. Wood.

-
GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them.
-
EC: Yes - this is the same house we had before - this apartment.
-
Here we find the incoordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal system being the source of disturbances in the locomotories, and the inability for the body to carry on nominally. This is the basis or the beginning of agitans, unless corrections are brought about; or a wasting of the muscular forces, and such pressures as to cause the inability of the body to control the locomotories. Voluntary nerve reflexes become involuntary.
-
These, as we find, are the conditions. Acidity in the body, yes. The headaches, bad taste in the mouth, poor eliminations. All of these are parts of the general disturbances.
-
For this body we would begin first with Fume Baths or Cabinet Sweats twice each week, using witchhazel. Each of these treatments would be followed with rather a violent massage, or violent for this body. Use this combination of oils:
Olive Oil…2 ounces, Peanut Oil…2 ounces, Oil of Mustard…10 drops, Cedar Oil…1 ounce.
Massage these especially in the lumbar and sacral and the sciatic nerves down to the knees, feet, throughout bursa of the feet and the heel, to the center of the toes. Especially go downward, not towards the body, go Away from the body in giving the massages. Don’t just slap this on but do massage it thoroughly into the body.
-
If this produces a rash, bathe off with lukewarm soda water. Then leave off the massage for a day or two and then begin again, reducing the quantity of the Mustard Oil; though we must get this counter-irritation, else we will have nerves that will not respond.
-
Do begin with the use of the Wet Cell Appliance carrying into the body vibratorially one day Spirits of Camphor (commercial strength) and the next day Atomidine (one ounce to two ounces of distilled water). Attach the Appliance each day for one hour.
-
The large plate through which the Solution passes vibratorially would be attached at the umbilical and lacteal duct center, which on this body would be a width of two fingers from the navel center to the right and one finger up from that point.
-
Each day the small plate would be attached to the lumbar axis, using one day the Camphor Solution, the next day the Atomidine Solution.
-
Do keep the connection plates clean. Do take the connections from the bottle when not in use - the U-shape connection. Do put them in the solution about twenty minutes before they are to be attached to the body.
-
Do these and we should bring better conditions for this body.
-
Ready for questions.
-
(Q) What causes the terrible headaches, first in one eye and then the other, during menstruation? (A) The general strain upon the body through the pubic center. The massages should cover these areas, though from the back.
-
(Q) What is the function of the pineal gland in this case particularly the physical function? (A) The impulses that are carried to and from the sensory system and the cerebrospinal system.
-
We are through with this reading.

R1. 11/15/51 Letter from Dr. Wood: ”…I found that Mrs. [3612] still lives at the same address, …, and her nurse was the one who answered the phone. Mrs. [3612] was not able to be moved to the phone just then, but I set a time in the afternoon when I would be free to talk with her and called her then, and the nurse had put her in her wheel-chair, so she could talk to me just a few minutes. She is very weak and couldn’t hold the phone long and was resting it against something to steady it, but she was very happy to talk to me. Said she had not walked a step for 5 years, and suffered terribly all the time, especially bladder trouble at the present time, and she is not able to do but very little for herself; said her voice was the only thing that was working right, but she was thankful for that.
She has spent a fortune with doctors, but none of them give her the least hope of helping. Mayo Clinic and several of the other well known ones say that her case is one of multiple sclerosis. I remember now that the reason I got no results with her was that she lived in this tiny apartment, and Mr. Cayce’s diagnosis called for treatments with some electric equipment, and also cabinet baths and daily massage with various oils, and all these things were just impossible for us to do, so she didn’t even attempt it. She is very patient, but said she had not put her foot on the ground for more than a year and was constantly getting worse.
“She said she received a letter from you about a month ago and her husband said no answer was needed - he is not much in favor of Mr. Cayce’s work, nor the opinions of chiropractors, so guess that is a case that is closed so far as I am concerned…”

B1. 11/1/43 Letter from Dr. Marian B. Wood re. [3612]:
”…Soon as your letter came I went up to see my patient [3612] and found her eager to get her application on the way to you, but she was terribly disappointed to think she would have to wait six months for the possible hope of finding out what causes her trouble. She does not suffer so much pain, but it is the mental torture of the helpless body that is so hard to bear. She is not able to take any kind of treatment at the present time, except that she takes shots of some sort given her by an M.D. She has not been out of her apartment for months.
“I am enclosing herewith her check for $20.00, with her application for Associate Membership, and also a brief case history for your records…
”…White, female, age 45 years - Both parents living and in normal health. Four children in family, one brother, three sisters - Had pneumonia several times before she was 14 years of age; always frail. Had nervous breakdown at age of 21, during which time she lost use of both hands for three months; rest of body apparently normal. Gradually recovered; has been employed in office work for many years - When about 23 years old had a spell during which right leg and right arm were entirely useless; after two weeks of complete rest she recovered. General health fair for several years except for severe headache during menstrual period. At one time left leg and arm were affected but with a short rest she was able to work again. At another time the left side of her head was paralyzed and she lost the sight of her right eye and was told she would never have any vision in that eye again, but in three weeks it began to improve and eventually sight came back to normal, but the balance of her body was greatly disturbed and walking was difficult. Has had such spells about once a year but after a week or two of complete rest she was up and working again. About four years ago, 1939, she had a severe attack of mumps, since this time she has not regained normal balance. Spells always worse at menstrual period, then clear up. At present she is unable to stand or balance herself without assistance. All her life she has been subject to these terrific headaches which always come just before the menstrual period. She does not suffer much pain at present. Her great trouble is the mental torture of a helpless body. Treatments of all sorts have been given her; arch supports and braces, osteopathic and chiropractic services for months at a time; shots of different kinds from an M.D. - none of the treatments of any benefit. At present too weak to take any treatments that are strenuous…”
