This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Va., this 29th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the self - Mr. [3632], new Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Time of Reading 3:55 to 4:05 P. M. Eastern War Time. Cambridge, Mass.

1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body; answering the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Otis Street - runs toward and parallel with part of the river.

3. Yes, we have the body here, [3632].

4. As we find, there are disturbances. While some of these may be attributed to general debilitation, we find there are pressures that have brought on this debilitation; thus causing, as it were, the running down of the batteries of the sacral and lumbar areas which control the nerves and reflexes through the sciatic. Though sciatic nerve itself has not yet deteriorated, the flexes from same in locomotory centers have deteriorated. Thus the gradual losing of control of the lower limbs, so that in the attempt to walk, the toes drop forward, and it is necessary that there be the movement to swing these up, for they drop forward. Hence, as indicated, they draw back upon the sciatics, and to the nerves and muscular forces under the knee, through the calf of the leg. A swelling in the Achilles bursa also makes shortness in the heel and a weakness through the assimilation.

5. In the plexus of the lumbar and sacral or a part of the ileac plexus, there needs to be the removal of the pressures so that there will be not only a better blood flow, but a releasing of the nerve impulses impinged, so that there will be carried to the extremities a greater quantity of better blood supply.

6. This done, we will find there will be gradually a rebuilding - though it will also be necessary to recharge the body, as it were.

7. These corrections should be made osteopathically.

8. Hence, to recharge the system, we would use with these corrections the Radio-Active Appliance as to charge from the central nervous system to the extremities of the body. Keep the attachment plates very clean, polishing them when taking them off and when putting them on. Do prepare the Appliance at least twenty minutes before the attachments are to be made to the body. Use for at least one hour each day.

9. Use that hour as the period for definite meditation and prayer; not only for the removal of the disorders but that the purposes of the body and mind may be used for creative, constructive purposes - and not merely saying so.

10. Also each day when the Appliance is removed, massage the body with this combination of oils:

Olive Oil (heated)…2 ounces, Tincture of Myrrh…2 ounces, Lanolin (liquefied)…1/2 ounce.

11. Also twice each week, preferably Tuesdays and Fridays, use the violet ray - this should be that from which the resistance is taken, so as to charge directly in the body. This should begin at about the 2nd cervical and extend to the heel and feet, going down each side of the body from the 2nd cervical - not so much on the spinal column itself, but on each side where there are the sympathetic nerves joining more specifically to the cerebrospinal system.

12. This electrical application should not be begun until most of the osteopathic corrections have been made in the ileac plexus and in the lumbar-sacral.

13. Do these and we will make better conditions - we may add many years to the life and usefulness, if you will put it to use.

15. (Q) What is the cause of the cough and what treatment will relieve it? (A) This is an effect of the deterioration and a dropping or dropping of the palate. Tie up a piece of hair in the center of the head. Keep it tied up, like a wig. Tie this tighter each day. Every three days make it a little bit tighter, a little bit tighter, it’ll soon stop the cough and raise the palate.

My dear Mr. Cayce,

I thank you for the communication containing the psychic reading made on Jan. 29.

I have consulted and have had one treatment already with an osteopath Dr. Wm. G. Brooks, 359 Boylston St., Boston.

I may merely say that there is no skepticism to combat and that Dr. Brooks will co-operate fully.

Personally I am confident of good results and thank Mr. Cayce and all who are associated with him in his work.

Now I have another matter to submit.

I recall that in the book “There Is A River” there is mentioned in one of the early chapters the example of a young girl of about 6 years. This case may be somewhat on the same order - much worse I fear. The subject is a girl 7 years of age, whose mental age has been placed at a year and a half. She has a beautiful face, and as described by a physician at the Childrens Hospital at Boston, looks intelligent but is not.

She has no power of speech, and while arms and legs function (I believe she was four before she walked) she can not perform any service for herself. A younger sister of 3 years washes her face.

I am acquainted with the parents (they are no relation) and without false hopes would like the father to have the child with him in a room at home (the purpose even unknown to the mother) on a date that a reading may be given.

One symptom, terrible in its expression, is a paroxysm in which the child holds her hand to her head and screams. Is there not in this an indication that the removal of an impingement may effect a favorable reaction.

In the first letter from you there was mentioned an associate membership for, I believe, 10.00. I am enclosing a money order for that amount, If it is more please let me know. I am making this offering in thanks for the benefits that I feel sure of obtaining.

One thing more - in the treatments for my cough it was directed that I tie up a piece of hair on the top of my head. Now the fact is my hair is very sparse. There are a few on top. I wonder if the pull of them would be sufficient to raise my palate.

I have yours of the eighth. I am glad to know that you are following out the suggestions as were indicated, and I sincerely believe that you are soon to see real results.

Now, regarding the case of the little girl, we are sending you herewith the booklet which contains the application for membership. We would be very glad to try and be of help, but I have to tell you that we are 12 months in advance with our appointments now. The request would have to come from the parents, or guardian of the child.

Gentlemen,

I thank you for the recent communication containing the care of membership.

As you know I was given a psychic reading on Jan 29 and shortly after received in duplicate a description of the reading.

One of these I gave to the osteopath who made adjustments according to directions.

The next part of the treatment, “to recharge from the central nervous system,” was to be the use of the Radio-Active appliance.

What is this appliance?

Our Physicians and Surgeons supply depots do not know.

I thought at first when I was given the violet ray that the instrument used was the one meant, but a re-reading of your directions indicate something which I should judge is quite the reverse. The doctor is likewise puzzled.

Have you had readings that you can recall in which the Radio appliance was ordered?

Thanks very much for your letter of the 29th.

I am glad that you have been able to get an osteopath to cooperate with you in making the adjustments.

Regarding the appliance, this is something that was given many years ago through the information. It has not electricity in it. The radio active seems to be the one referred to that you are to use. You can only obtain this from a young man who makes these up for the individual. His address is: Marsden Godfrey, 2709 Lafayette Blvd., Norfolk, Virginia. The appliance is something that apparently works with the nervous system. Be sure to use it just as the instructions are given, and do keep the little plates clean that are attached to the wrist and ankle. You will feel no vibration, or at least not more than 2% of the people that it has been given to, ever have. The electricity that forms in it is from the appliance being in the form of a magnet, and it builds up in one portion of the body and discharges in the opposite, causing an equalization, or recharging of the central nervous system, or so it is claimed by the information and individuals who have used it consistently.

Hoping that you will get just as marvelous results from this, as so many hundreds of others testify that they have gotten.

Do let us hear from you from time to time, and if we can be of service, you know we are glad to do so.

Gentlemen I have your letter of April 3 in which you give me the information about the Radio-Active Appliance. I shall write to Mr. Godfrey. I shall be interested in reading the testimonials of benefits derived from its use.

You may recall a letter I wrote about Feb. 7 in which I enclosed a money-order for $10.00 for a reading for a child, and you reply that a reading could not be given unless upon request of a parent.

There are obstacles to my following up this matter. I would not wish to raise false hopes in the minds of the parents. The expense of an operation would be beyond their means. Then it would require an advocate to convince a surgeon that such a course should be successful.

If you will kindly consider the case closed and return the $10.00 I shall be much obliged.

I do not wish to apply the $10.00 to another form of membership nor have you apply it toward the purchase of the appliance.

Regarding the reading that you asked for, for the child. I am sorry not to have been able to try and be the means of help, but it is impractical for us to undertake it, unless the request comes directly from those who are responsible for the child. Under the circumstances, we are returning you herewith the $10.00 which you sent us.

My dear Mr. Cayce,

I have just read the very interesting account of your life and work by Thomas Sugrue.

I wonder if you could give me a reading. I have two handicaps. Once is a faulty articulation of my left leg, and from the same source, I believe, I have, when walking a peculiar swing to my body. Several years ago I consulted a spiritualist medium and was told of a misplacement of a nerve in the spinal column. Before and since this consultation I have had treatments by orthopedic surgeons. The prescription consisted of certain exercises. No results. I have never suffered pain from this trouble.

The other handicap is a cough. I am told that I had whooping-cough when I was three months old. I was born on Nov. 17, 1876 when the whoop left the cough remained. Examination by x-rays give no clue to the source. In the chronic state of the cough it varies as to frequency. There is always phlegm raised. In the past year I have noticed that after a cough the mucous is pocketed in my throat for a while and it requires an effort to loosen it. The mucous used to be a thick yellow. Now it is slightly thicker than saliva and most of the time of the same color as saliva. In the acute state (during a cold) the cough is more frequent and I find it difficult to sleep in a reclining position.

I do not wish to give an incorrect picture of my condition. I am not incapacitated. This may give you an idea - I worked as a clerk in the Post-Office from 1909 to 1941, being retired on annuity on reaching 65 years. Since 1925 (When I was out for 3 weeks with tonsillitis) I accumulated at the rate of 10 days a year and turned back on retirement 120 days sick leave.

Perhaps I have told you enough. At the Post-Office where I worked we handled the mail for students of the Harvard Business School. There was a student from Kentucky named Cayce. This was about 1929. One of the family near or distant no doubt.
