This psychic reading given by Edgar Cayce at the office of the Association, Arctic Crescent, Virginia Beach, Virginia, this 25th day of January, 1944, in accordance with request made by the mother - Mrs. [3102], Associate Member of the Ass”n for Research and Enlightenment, Inc.

Born December 17, 1932, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Time of Reading 4:15 to 4:30 P. M. Eastern War Time. …, Tennessee.

1. GC: You will give the relations of this entity and the universe, and the universal forces; giving the conditions which are as personalities, latent and exhibited in the present life; also the former appearances in the earth plane, giving time, place and the name, and that in each life which built or retarded the development for the entity; giving the abilities of the present entity, that to which it may attain, and how. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the records here of that entity now known as or called [3633].

3. In giving the interpretations of the records here of this entity, it would be very easy to interpret same either in a very optimistic or a very pessimistic vein. For there are great possibilities and great obstacles. But know, in either case, the real lesson is within self. For here is the opportunity for an entity (while comparisons are odious, these would be good comparisons) to be either a Beethoven or a Whittier or a Jesse James or some such entity! For the entity is inclined to think more highly of himself than he ought to think, as would be indicated. That’s what these three individuals did, in themselves. As to the application made of it, depends upon the individual self.

4. Here is an entity who has abilities and faculties latent within self which may be turned into music or poetry, or writing in prose, which few would ever excel. Or there may be the desire to have its own way to such an extent that the entity will be in the position to disregard others altogether in every form, just so self has its own way.

5. In giving the astrological aspects, these are latent and manifested; Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. These are adverse in some respects one to another, yet are ever present and will be indicated in that in which the body will go to excess in many ways, unless there is the real training in the periods of unfoldment. And the entity is beginning to reach that period when, while the spirit must not be broken, everyone should be very firm and positive with the entity, inducing the entity through reason to analyze self and to form the proper concepts of ideals and purposes and in doing this, we will not only give to the world a real individual with genius, but make for individual soul development. Otherwise, we will give to the world one of genius in making trouble for somebody.

6. As to the appearances in the earth, these naturally - as indicated from those tendencies - have been quite varied.

7. Before this the entity was in the land of the present sojourn during the French and Indian wars.

8. The entity was among those of the French in the activities about Fort Dearborn; bringing those things into activity to have its own way, irrespective of the trouble or the great distresses to which others were put.

9. In the end the entity by sheer illness in self, gained a great deal. For it may be said of this entity as of the Master, through suffering he learned the more.

10. The name then was John Angel.

11. Before that the entity was in the French and the Hun land when there were those disturbances in the establishing of the activities in what is now known as France.

12. Then the entity with certain groups made forays into the Hun land, and yet eventually escaped to the areas about the southern and western portion of Italy.

13. The entity then was in those activities in which the artist or the musician came into greater play; the ability to write verse and make music to it.

14. The abilities in the present as an orchestra leader or a writer of song or verse may be a part of the entity’s experience, provided it doesn’t have the “big head” or think more highly of himself than he ought; but having ideals and principles, having purposes and coordinating them, knowing that every other individual has as much right in the earth as you have yourself, even though he may not be in some respects as far advanced in his learning. For, remember, knowledge - or the seeking for the tree of knowledge - is the sin. It is the use of that you do know to the glory of God that is righteousness. God is not the respecter of persons because of one’s good looks nor of one’s abilities. He respects the individual because of his purposes, his aims, his desires. Remember that.

15. Before that the entity was in the city of gold when there were those overtures and activities in the various lands, as in the land of Saad, the Gobi and the Egyptian land.

16. The entity was among those who acted as the emissary, and was among the guards to the ladies in waiting.

17. The entity then was active in its abilities for entertaining, as in verse and in song; using these for purposes that added not only to the entertainment, but to the greater development and unfoldment of those people.

18. The name then was Scarpf.

19. Before that the entity was in Atlantis, during those periods just before the second breaking up of the land.

20. The entity was among the sons of Belial who used the divine forces for the gratifying of selfish appetites, and the formation of desires for the gratifying of self became the stumblingblock for the entity.

21. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, that to which it may attain and how:

22. There are unlimited abilities. How will they be directed by the entity? How well may others cause the entity to be aware of such activities? These should be the questions in self.

23. Study to know first thy ideals, spiritual, mental and material. Then apply self in such a manner towards those that there will never be a question mark after thine own conscience nor in the eyes even of others.

24. Remember that the Lord loveth the cheerful giver as well as those who seek his face.

25. Ready for questions.

26. (Q) What should be his chief work? (A) This depends upon what he chooses - whether in music, directing or music, writing of music, or writing of verse. But in either of these channels, there may be the greater outlet. The voice of the wood, the voice of the air - any of those are the realms through which the entity may exceed, as well as succeed.

27. (Q) Should all of his talents be developed? (A) All his talents will either be developed, or run to seed and be drained off.

28. (Q) Any other suggestions that may help his parents to guide him? (A) Let the parents study to show themselves approved unto God, workmen not ashamed, putting the stress where stress is due, keeping self unspotted from the world.

R2. 2/14/44 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…Your reading for [3633] was no surprise to my husband and me. We early saw that such tremendous energy should be set to work, and he is in his third year at a very strict, very religious boarding school. Idleness would destroy him. He must always be in the big world where he will be just a ‘drop in the bucket’ - not the ‘big frog in a small pond’…”

R3. 9/49 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…We are in great distress now over the condition of our only child who has a distressing mental and nervous upset which as yet has not been diagnosed…”

R4. 3/7/51 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…The press has been cruel to us in our sorrow, and no doubt you have read of our tragedy. My son [3633], who has been emotionally unbalanced for 3 years, last Wednesday shot his father and grandmother. Hugh Lynn, your Father was my friend and I brought [3633] to see him and also he gave a life reading for him which had plenty of warnings in it. I am writing to ask you to please get one of your prayer circles to work on us - and to pour spiritual power into my mother […] and into my husband […] and my son [3633]. We certainly need it…”

R5. 4/26/51 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…Thanks so much for your letter about my son [3633]. In the light of our tragic happenings, your Father’s reading for him takes on great significance. I haven’t it here with me, but I remember his saying ‘If he ever comes out of his dream of self…’ - what does Mr. Cayce mean by this, I wonder? I think it refers to [3633]‘s present mental state of confusion…”

R6. 8/51 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…We have had some correspondence about my son [3633] and your Father’s reading for him in which he foretold much that has come to pass. [3633] is now in … State Hospital. The doctors have of course, there and elsewhere in other sanitariums where he has been, labeled his trouble, dementia praecox, schizophrenia, etc., but you and I know it is just a bad karma. As a member, would I be entitled to your Father’s readings on mental illnesses, or if I am not, will you kindly send me copies of those you think might help in his treatment. Thank God his intellect seems intact, he writes for books he has always liked and he takes two newspapers…”

R7. 8/29/51 Letter from HLC to [3633]‘s Mother: ”…As you can well imagine we have in our records a great many cases of serious mental illness. Almost invariably where brain, nerve or glandular tissue was involved the Wet Cell appliance carrying gold and silver radiation was recommended. The theory connected with this appliance is in direct opposition with present day medical concepts about the possibility of rebuilding nerve tissue. You would, for example, I believe find great difficulty in securing the cooperation of the authorities in following such daily treatments in a hospital. …I am asking Miss Davis to send you one or two extracts which will clarify my statement about the appliance…”

R8. 10/30/51 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…My husband and I agree that the Still-Hildreth Sanitarium should be tried [for [3633]] but unfortunately we have arranged to send him to a psychiatrist, Dr. […], of St. Louis, next. He is very fine, one of the pioneers in insulin and electric shock treatment. I see no reason why [3633] should not receive osteopathic treatment while under Dr. […]. He tells me that he will keep [3633] for a whole month for observation before he gives him any treatment and I am going to urge that in this month he be given osteopathy. With our love and thanks again…”

R9. 11/10/51 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…Months ago I asked you to please send me some of the material from readings of your father on insanity. …I want especially what concerns paranoia and schizophrenia and dementia praecox and their treatment…”

R10. 11/20/51 Notation by GD: ”…I sent extracts and referred her to Still-Hildreth.”

R11. 11/23/51 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…My husband and I were overjoyed to receive your data today. Many, many thanks. We devoured it immediately and found that almost every case had some of [3633]‘s symptoms. …Mr. Cayce was wonderfully patient and kind when I visited him and he and [3633] talked about fishing. …I hope it will be alright for me to keep the data for about a month or perhaps it would be best for me to have it copied. Will take good care of it and return it to you…

[Enclosed letter from [3633] to his Mother [3102]]:

Dear Mother:

I was indeed glad to hear about your trip through the middle west, but have not yet heard about the results.

I certainly feel better since Brother Lindsay prayed for me, and am less tense and worried about the future than before.

Will you please take me to a healing revival? I could probably benefit from this more than from any other form of treatment. Do please find out where one is being held and let’s go to it.

Could you please send me my tweed suit and those new shoes which I wasn’t allowed to wear at …? I could certainly use them here as certain regulations are much more lenient.

Also I would like my wrist watch which I am also allowed. Please tell Father to buy me some canned goods and delicacies from the food market. All these items are very useful and they would come in very handy around here.

You probably have not yet felt this year’s tax increases, but your ‘52 income tax will be higher, leaving you less money to live on if you don’t do any tax dodging. Business property, however, yields about the highest income after taxes for any investment.

R12. 6/14/56 Letter from [3633]‘s Mother: ”…I am truly ashamed of myself for having kept the enclosed [morphinism extracts] for so long. Many thanks for so kindly lending them to us to help with our son [3633].

“Miss Davis recommended Still-Hildreth Sanitarium as being one that Mr. Cayce approved of, and for 2 years [3633] has been there. This is the only place where he has been that he has been content and we think it the very best, regardless of price. [3633], with only one backset, has steadily improved there and we have great hopes that he will ultimately recover…”

R14. 2/25/64 Mother Mrs. [3102]‘s letter to HLC: “Because your wonderful father was a friend of both [3633] and mine, I am sending you this.” Best wishes, [3102]

[It was a picture of [3633] and [3102], announcing “In Memoriam” that [3633] had died on 12/31/63, ending with “Jesus said Today wilt thou be with me in Paradise.”]
